I was diagnosed with severe RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) in 2005 when I was 36 years old and told by one of the leading RA specialist in my country at the time that I need to go onto CHEMO to control the symptoms and then make peace with the fact that I will end up in a wheelchair before I turn 50. When I asked him if my problem is related to my diet ... he told me not to waste time with "old wives tales". I ignored his advice and started looking at my diet and learned more about what aggravates my RA .... 16 years later I'm in better shape and more active I've ever been.

I turned 69 years old last May 10. Thank God that I am blessed to have good health. I do not have any kind of health problem to this date. I do eat a small serving of fresh fruit everyday, such as mangoes, watermelon, papaya, pomelo, avocado, tamarind, cantaloupe, and anything that is in season in my country. I also eat peanuts, almond nuts, pecan nuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and pitted dates. I eat greens such as cabbage, bok choy, watercress, celery, spinach, lettuce, okra, bittermelon and moringa, but not on a daily basis. I will have a slice or 2 of buttered white bread almost every other morning, and have 2 soft boiled egg every morning and a bowl of steel cut oats on other mornings. I drink water with a tbsp of apple cider vinegar 30 mins before every meal. I would have beef and pork meat once or twice a week and eat fish and chicken the rest of the week. I love yogurt, kombucha and water kefir, sauerkraut and fermented baby cucumbers. I am not concerned if I am eating organic or non organic food because organic is not readily available where I come from. BTW, I also enjoy chocolates and cake treats once in a while. I do not deprive myself of some of the guilty pleasures in life
Thank God that I have never been really sick of anything. My mother who had about the same eating habit as mine, lived to be 90 years old. I hope that by sharing this, I could encourage someone to eat moderately and still enjoy to the fullest.

That is true. Since 2018 I all of a sudden would have some seasonal depression. October would come and for the entire month I was depressed. For NO reason. I could not figure out what was going on. It happened again in 2019, in October.
Last year I decided to pay attention to my food and curb some things out, away. Whatever it was that would cause me to feel anxious all the time and could not focus well I would stop eating it. Once i learned foods that triggered me like that I stopped. Did it right on time before the season changed and when October hit...whew, didn't have such negative feelings that "nothing mattered" anymore. Will do same thing this year.

diet and nutrition should be part of everyone's routine when it comes to regular medical check ups. Doctors really aren't concerned about preventative measures like proper nutrition and most don't even want to discuss nutrition as well as exercise. They're job is to deal with and treat illness and that's it. That's one main reason why our hospitals are filled with people who might not even been there had they been educated about proper nutrition.

I, too, have to take pricey medication, and because they use lactose as a filler I have to buy lactase as well. I have always known that pharmaceutical companies weren't exactly examples of highly ethically run entities (my family has brought forth 4 generations of doctors, imagene our Christmas dinner conversations), but since the current crisis I have pretty much lost all faith in classical western medicine and its scientific foundation.

Congratulations in taking interest in your personal health. I'm glad you are starting at a young age in watching what you eat. When I was 23, I ate a lot of junkfood and this worsened when I was in a bad marriage. Needless to say, I developed diabetes and a host of other illnesses.
You are right; we are being lied to...all the time. Even doctors (the ones that work for big pharma), routinely lie to patients in order to sell medicines and procedures. I've experienced this personally. So in the future, if you are being suggested medicines by your doctors, do your research first to see if food can fix the issue; if not, then use medicine as a last resort. That being said, one of the best things young people can invest in is organic foods. Health is wealth. And the people that profit from junkfoods are the ones investing in chemicals that are used in junkfoods. Why do you think certain people are billionaires and trillionaires? BTW, food at mcdonalds/pizzahut, etc isn't real food. Some of it is created in labs.
So yes, we are being lied to everyday and psychologically manipulated. And those doing that are getting away with it. So here's some unsollicited advice for you. Hope you don't mind because I wish someone taught me these things when I was your age :)

Just the best conversations with a great panel. I've been a foodie for many years, a plant based diet with some fish. However they are so right when they mention we cannot be perfect. A truth folks must embrace or they will feel defeated when they lower their bar. I am aware of most of this content but as a writer, i loved how each panelist expressed their parts of the convo. My biggest take-away is the realization that even though i eat pretty clean i have seen myself compromise and now i'm even more determined. The whole convo on hybridized food was so interesting. I know foods are but i learned alot anyway. I esp loved the corn convo. I've researched Maize and became obsessed with what i learned and also how the native americans used to soak the corn in milk before cooking it. Now i Must get heirloom corn to plant. This was a fantastic Panel! Super informative. As someone who lives in a food desert within one of American's many Black Communities, it makes me cringe at all the harm being done on so many levels. We have tons of these stores that call themselves "Grocery Stores" that do not sell one single vegetable (!!!). Upon walking into one of these stores all you see are aisles and aisles of potato chips, candy, and cookies. It is so difficult to find any type of vegetable let alone something organic. I feel such a deep concern for our young people. Eating junk has been woven into our culture in the most diabolical way over that past 30 years. Within that same time line you see this astronomical level of learning disabilities, behavioural issues, depression, low energy, obesity, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes, bipolar, autism. Im clear that food is not the sole reason for all the current calamity we currently face, however, I know it is a HUGE foundational cause for much of it. I'm grateful to those that have been really trying to learn and teach about local farming (although that also needs proper supports to ensure that poisons are leaching in there as well), and education around the power of food. This panel has been really motivating. Thank you so much.

@@heatherclarke2361 Thank you for sharing your take on my comment. My point wasn't to avoid personal responsibility for the choices we make, we make choices based off of our options -we need better options... and my point wasn't to bash another culture. I work with all communities to get resources for my own. All communities have people that look out for the needs of their community, black people should be able to do it as well without being made out to be some irresponsible complainer. I am concern about the fact that we have bad options in low income black communities (not all black people live in black communities, not all black people live in Low income communities). Some people sit around and blame everybody for their problems: their mama, their daddy, these people, that people- as an escape from their own responsibilities, I'm not on that. It is no hidden fact that our community has been destabilised. This is documented history not a personal feeling. I love black babies and I just want them to have a better future. Better quality of options. I don't hate other babies I just want the best for mine. As all people should want.

Cayenne pepper is great pesticide. Using copper tape around the perimeter of the garden, will stop slugs and crawling insects. 1:3 ratio of vinegar:water is a great herbicide. There are hundreds of safe solutions to pest and weeds. Our great grand parents used all of them.

My grandfather cut up the hog and we raised our beef and the local butcher prepared it. But later on working 40-60 hours marriage and children . I went to low cost processed foods and gained 100 pounds, went through depression and had excessive fatigue. After having meniscus tear knee surgery I began to study how to heal my body naturally. You all make excellent points in not fearing certain foods, rather educating ourselves on the good foods. Once we understand just how damaging traditional and processed foods can be, we need to move away from fear. I spent several years struggling with an eating disorder where I was actually afraid of what some foods could do to my body.

I live in a Medical University town. I have many health problems, two of which are Diabetes II and Acute Intermittent Porphyria. I tried Keto and fasting, trying to lose weight. I hurt my body by doing these. With porphyria, a patient needs to eat carbs and sugar. With Diabetes, very little carbs and sugar. I cannot find anyone in this area, who doesn't want me on drugs, and insulin. I want to cure myself with food! I feel like I am dying by 5:00pm, every day. I am going into a porphyria attack every day. This is not healthy! I have spent thousands of dollars on supplements, and buying pills, from online doctors. Soon, I will not have that money to spend. Could you tell me what type of doctor, I should seek? I have had 5 mini strokes, and now it is very difficult to find a neurologist who cares. I have gained back the 14 pounds I lost, and the weight is going up. This is not good for diabetics, or patients with porphyria. I am obese. I am at a loss! The only functional doctor in the area, charges approximately $500, a visit. Takes no insurance. I am not rich. There is one injection I could take, a new drug, but it costs $66,000 a month. They claim Medicare will cover it, but, I have called 4 times, and got four different answers.

Powerful video! Wow. I love the perspective of food being our medicine. I am a huge foodie so food has been my pleasure, but recently I've been seeing food as fuel for my body because my focus is on having more energy to do things. It's been really fun and empowering to make my own meals and I am feeling more naturally drawn to doing so. Sometimes it can be overwhelming especially when you go into perfectionist mode to heal your gut for example and that just leads to burn out and falling off the wagon. Watching this video I can tell that this journey will last for generations. So the healthy choices we make now and are able to make a habit out of will be passed on to our descendants who will have that as a foundation to take forward into their own lives. And so on, until our bloodline reaches optimal health/perfection. I am glad to be reminded of that and to really keep that promise to yourself to keep going, no matter how many times you need to hop back on. And I agree, a short period of cold-turkey is really helpful in making that change. So much good stuff, I loved listening to this information! I want a career in nutrition because I have always loved food and it has been a great tool in my self-healing. It's amazing that we are so blessed to be able to choose what goes into our bodies, even one small food-swap at a time.

I told a DR once when she was grilling me about drug use that my food was my medicine and she wouldn't see me after that. I have been told I am uncooperative because I refuse most medicine and medical care. I was given three to five years to live after refusing anything other than surgery for cancer and that was in the 80's

Nice! My mother had a mini-pharmacy at home. She was told to stay on her meds or she'd die very soon. She got rid of the meds instead. That was 46 yrs ago. She still alive and kicking.

Lost 60 lbs in 3 months by getting rid of my microwave, replacing it with an airfryer and Wholefood, lean meat, low sodium, and varied vegetable diet. I never worked out (although I definitely should) and I never watched my portion control. Food is a huge component to feeling better best of luck on your diet journey for whoever reads this, God bless

This is the health message the SDA church has Been preaching all this while And am so mind blown. Didn’t take it that serious but here it is again. Oh How much the Lord Loves us. There’s an amazing book I took up to read but put down again, Counsels on diet and foods by Ellen White , I’ll pick it up again.

I’m a nursing student. I believe in medicine. However, I also have PCOS and have been pumped full of medicines that have done NOTHING!
There is a time and place for medicine.... but going natural through foods and supplements, dynamic. I wish doctors mentioned it more.

PCOS is caused by insulin resistance and is easy to reverse with diet. Look up Ben Bikman. He's a Ph.D. Physiologist.
Here's a good video to start with: "DR BEN BIKMAN - PCOS AND INSULIN RESISTANCE"
He talks about how to fix insulin resistance in other videos and in his book.

Of course! What I’m learning is that many non-communicable chronic illnesses that are plaguing America all come down to diet and insulin resistance (as mentioned above). Another great book on this is metabolical

Very informative, especially from 57:04, about autism and the connection to glyphosate in "Roundup" and other pesticide/fungocide products. In addition, the fact that parents can trust their childern's ability to change their own eating habit and participate in their own healing.

Thank you for posting. Parents need to be taught again how to raise healthy, emotionally balanced kids. It's like we have been robbed of our health by the commercial food world. My parents in the 70's or 80's never stopped to think this was not good for us, and there were no limits on junk food. I was born in the early 70's. My mom says the pediatricians were telling mothers and told her NOT to breastfeed and to give SMA formula. How horrible that pediatricians were doing this! But still we do not see enough pediatricians telling parents how destructive to the mind and body, that junk food can cause, and the value of a good diet. So good to see people are starting to see the truth.

I'm not doubting you regarding pediatricians. But who in there right mind would suggest not to breastfed . Is that what nature intended for mostly the female gender in any species. My mother now 87 breastfeed all of 7 babies from 1956 to 1973. I feed my 4 children even twins fully to 6 months from 1978 to 1984.

My 3 daughters in law breastfeed my 5 soon to 7 grandchildren including another set of twins from 2009 to 2023. All.of which come from another country. 2 of my sisters breast their baby boys x 4. 1984 1986 and 2009 2012. I understand there is a strange mentality out their even I remember a baby child nurse saying to me as a 26 year old mother "are you still breastfeeding those twins". However I understand some mums choose to feed a bottle for many reasons.
