I was listening to this soundtrack on the drive home, this evening. Honestly, this is one of the most underrated scores for an NES game. Amazingly moody, and not horribly repetitive!
Yes!!! I loved hearing this music kick in when you turned on the cart. I will never forget this amazing music, coupled with confusion and difficulty. lol
This soundtrack is fantastic. I remember playing this as a kid. I only got to the dugout, but hearing the badassery that is Jungle Confrontation makes me wanna play it again.
ANYONE searching this and listening/commenting, you all are my brothers. We come from a different time...a better time, playing this until we look out and see the moon so bright, lighting up our bedrooms/living rooms while the family slept. Political correctness didn't exist, everyone just had the best time throughout the 90s. I salute you all
The music for this game is pretty good overall, and it fits well with the dark gloomy atmosphere. It really gives you that sense of tension, dread, and fear of the unknown. And that fits the Vietnam war perfectly.
The Original C64 OST is good but this NES version is superior imo. I only wish they had placed the loading track somewhere in the NES version. It's arguably the best track of the game but can only be heard by digging into the audio files.
I was wondering if the music was good in this game (I never played it) and then i saw the company that created it SUNSOFT, and i knew, i am in for some awesome and badass music.
Indeed, even if it differs from Naoki Kodaka's style, but as it says, the music was programmed by Akito Takeuchi, who is only known for programming music in this game. Still, he did a great job with Kodaka's music! :D
Intermission was used in the game. It's the little awesome diddy that plays between levels. One of my favorite tracks from this game too! I love how long they are compared to other NES music at the time
From my knowledge of looking at longplays and few buds that help name tracks, the song isn't in the game, but was in the C64 version which this version is based off of. But these are pretty grand tracks, Sunsoft and Naoki Kodaka in his beginning prime :)
Thank you! I figured you would be able to fix the 6-note chord problem in the Stage 1 music. Or was that one of the major reasons why this was postponed?
Nope, I had no idea that has been a problem before with the soundtrack (NSF), this was postponed because the NSF file had included the expansion soundchips of VRC6, VRC7 & FDS, which is a false inclusion that some NSF files have, but I was able to fix that problem so any soundtrack that had that problem are out of the way. But glad to have it up now for people to enjoy! :)
@@Nikos8BitStereo Before you rerelease this video, try using an altered version of this track: /watch?v=7o9z0NOFqjA It's the slowed-down PAL version, but it doesn't have the chord cutting problem the NSF has.
@@JMein13074 Damn a follow up 7 years later, guess you've seen the revamps eh? Well there has been a large Re-ripping effort I mentioned in a major update video when announcing the revamp, only way I'd be able to use this fixed version is if it was ripped properly by either MrNorbert1994, Karmic or NewRisingSun who have been the main contributors to that lately at the Nesdev forums, which this game has been ripped with all its SFX and such so when it comes time to redo this, I'll see if the chord problem is fixed.

I still have my NES copy of this game. I remember loving the music so much.
One of the best video games soundtracks for NES

How such a horrible war made it's way into a good game. I'm high.
Meditative stuff. Doing spreadsheets to this. Long live Platoon! Hard game!
One of the finest pieces of video game music for one of the hardest games made for the NES
great game not crappy nor difficult once you master the gameplay, nes classic
This game may be tough, but it's not crappy man

Takes me back to those tense, moonless nights patrolling the perfume river. Good stuff.

I was born in 98 but raised on all the best games. This one included!
1987 son best year to be born EVER
During this lockdown.... This comment right here man. The 90s
This one was entirely adapted from the C64 version. Original music is by Jonathan Dunn (adapted by Naoki Kodaka).
I thought some of it resembled theme to RoboCop on Gameboy!!! The high score one has the same forlorning undertones.
Music sounds better on nes
Combat Zone is my favorite
One of the greatest NES soundtracks ever!!
Thank you for sharing!!
You bet, this is wonderful, a great arrangement of Jonathan Dunn's work on the C64 :)
Sunsoft really knew how to get the most out of the NES sound chip set. Some of the systems best music pieces come from there games.
They sure did, even before they got there well known Sunsoft Bass sound, they still knew how to make a great sound with the NES chip! :)
This was one of the hardest games I remember playing...

"Game ovev? *_GAMA OVAR?!"_* 😳
- Danny Avidan
Never played this game, Daemon Hatfield said this was a great chip tune NES game, yup awesome music. The movie is also a classic.
that last song tho
Holy shit. This is the best piece of video game music I've ever heard. This is blowing my mind.
allrequiredfields Just don't play the game... trust me.
El_Nacho the game isnt bad. I still remember where to get the explosives to blow the bridge and the items for the tunnel mission in the village
@IgjapoCR97 getting some Vietcong flashbacks, are we?
still jammin in 2018
This was the sample for Diplo Rhythm (watch?v=0HLHpbCw3V0)
High Score has always been my favorite.
Stockholm syndrome. This was the music that rolled after game over, which happened a lot. 😆
Well yeah, there was only 3 songs anyone ever heard playing this game: The Title Screen, Combat Zone, then High Score, usually in rapid succession.
So good
Dang not that bad
I loved it too!!!❤
This was amazing, I want to play it now.
I would play it when I look up a walkthrough for the first area, I never got past there :P
I never played the game before, but does this help then? www.gamefaqs.com/nes/587514-platoon/faqs/29193
I believe most of these songs are arrangements of the platoon c64 game, not original compositions, no?
Nice remake of the original C64 music.
Yeah...but not even close as the holy C64 one
This was posted in 2013!? Why haven't I been able to find it before!?
Too bad they didn't included adagio for strings. Without it Platoon cannot be itself.
The Original C64 OST is good but this NES version is superior imo.

Thank you, again.
You're welcome sweetie~ ;)
The closer to a Platoon game would be "Spec Ops: The Line".
Huh, Some of the notes on Ending / Staff Roll sound kind of like Toby Fox's Oh One True Love.

Can you split up the music by videos? instead of finding the times for a specific song?
Naoki Kodaka? Not Jonathan Dunn? But, it's nice :). Main theme rocks!
Jonathan Dunn did indeed compose the music, but Naoki Kodaka ported it over to the NES.

This game was so freakin hard to finished,I did it one time and never touch the game again.
Combat Zone sounds alot like "Run through the jungle" by CCR

This lousy game had no right to a soundtrack that went this hard
Isn't developer Ocean Software
Ocean Software developed the original Commodore 64 version. Sunsoft converted the game to the NES.
