Listen up children ...this is what music made with instruments sounds like. Forget about the auto tune, you won’t find any. That drummer...no quantizing. It’s the great Gadd!
I think there’s space to like this AND the autotune. I love jazz-and the late Al-but I really love classical music more than anything. And there are plenty of snobs who think THAT’S actually the only real music.
Absolutely beyond the one. Al Jarreau, Marcus Miller, Joe Sample, Steve Gadd, Michael Patches Stewart, etc. Complete syncopation and a real gem of a jam.
Marcus Miller - Bass Joe Sample - Keys Phillippe Saisse - keys Steve Gadd - drums Paulinho da Costa - percussions Al Jarreau - vocals Michael “Patches” Stewart - trumpet Eric Gale - Guitar Sharon Young - vocals Jeff Ramsey (?) - vocals
The record had no good critics, but not only because of these masters it is one of three favourites by Al Jarreau. But the record is named "Tenderness" and not "You Don't See Me".
I had the privilege to see all these guys live many times!! Awesome time of my live that was, Al was an incredible legend, and Marcus became a star and I still follow him on his journey!!
I feel you on that. Al Jarreau was the soundtrack for all of my young childhood. He was in my Walkman while I walked my high school campus. He was in my Boombox when I was working out in my garage as a teen. He was in my Discman all those nights studying in my College Library. Certain songs of his were Representatives of certain crushes I had on a couple of girls back then. He was truly in a class by himself. And that is a LITERAL statement. During the We Are the World project, USA for Africa, Quincy Jones assembled the who was who and hot of singing artists of that time to be a part of that. I am elated and glad that Al Jarreau was mentioned and thought of amongst those powerhouses of that time. Yes he is still alive to me also in the music will always be a communicative gift from him for always and eternally.
It is with pleasure that I listen to Al JARREAU again and again. I always remember his last concert in Paris shortly before his death. Despite his illness that day he was there and gave everything. Rest in peace.
He is my favourite male vocalist,I have alots of Lp's with his music from the 70's and 80's.My favourites is Roof Garden,Susan's Song,One Note Samba and others... JazzyT.

What a Dream Team of a band! With greats like joe sample, Steve gadd, Eric gale, and the young Marcus, how can we go wrong. This was truly a great way to start my day today.

Génial, en tous points de vue.... !!
To the person who posted this video, I owe you a debt of gratitude. I've been trying to find a video recording of this song since I first heard the record nearly 40 years ago. This rendition is the closest to that original recording and I am very thankful to see Mr. Jarreau perform it especially since he is no longer with us.
Thank Heavens they Filmed this.. This is as close as you can get to being a fly on the wall in one of the classic Jarreau Studio Session in the 1980's recording with The Monsters... Rest In Peace Al, Joe and Eric.
It’s a gift that arrived decades later! how lucky I was not to hear all. now when the real desert is around... these minutes - fresh, delicious champagne! greatest ever all of them, but Jarreau, Miller, Gadd, Sample...incredible!!!fantastic arrangement! all and everywhere syncopations! what a great composer too!
