Same here! I'm actually from New Westminster which is outside of Vancouver so these Olympics were a very huge deal and I was 12 years old at the time but it was also a very big year for me as well because I was in my final year of elementary school (grade 7) at the same time.
@@werthmelissa .... fascinating how quickly time flies and how our memories allow us to relive those special moments with such clarity . Thanks for sharing yours .... I'm more than a little bummed that the NHL has elected to opt out of the games , but understand their rationale .
No kidding. That's the moment the entire country screamed in jubilation. Jarome Iginla's pass, while falling to the ice, and Crosby's quick release and the hand eye coordination of both made the dreams of a nation come true. That golden goal was just as important to Canadian sports history as Alexandre Bilodeau's gold metal win in freestyle skiing 2 weeks earlier.
As a Crosby fan who happens to be a U.S.A citizen, I’ll never forget the chills I got after seeing this goal I was rooting for Canada the entire time this was as epic as it was well deserved
when the goal was scored we all ran to the streets screaming and cheering, and I kid you not the whole neighbourhood did the exact same thing. one of the most memorable nights for me.
Watching that with my family and all our family friends gathered around the tv and when that goal went through the roof exploded off the place what a great time to be Canadian
I remember this so well. I was in Vancouver working the Olympics and we got there that day. As soon as it went in we went to downtown Vancouver and it was crazy.
lived in bellingham WA during the 2010 Vancouver olympics and while I am a born and raised american, living extremely close to canada during my formative years the way canada carries itself and how its people live have rubbed off on me and I make no secret that I was more than happy canada won the gold medal. Hockey is truly Canada's game and this was something that from the start needed to happen and I am glad it did!
Admit it, Canada, victory would not have been nearly so sweet if we hadn't made you work for it. Everyone loves a story where the heroes have to truly earn their happy ending. I'm glad this game went *exactly* the way it did.
As a Canadian, I agree. Yes, the intermission and every moment of the Overtime period was nailbitingly tense, but as a result, I still tear up to this day thinking about that moment. Jeu exceptionnel, American team, you did your country very proud that day.
I was a waterboy for the Bulls and being around Jordan was a damn cool thing, but watching this at home and experiencing such a moment, no words man. It couldn't happen to two better players, Iginla and Crosby, damn... what a feeling. Amazing Olympics.
@@notoriouseagle1074 it was a recording I think, or maybe it was another Canada vs America game. All i remember is kids screaming and ppl chanting USA aswell
I watched the game live on Swiss television, the replay on French television a few hours later. Then I found a Canadian Ice Hockey fans chatroom on Internet where the fans were so happy they considered me a hero for watching the game twice. I was in favour of Canada of course. I remember that guy saying he listened to the game on his car radio while driving,
That’s like saying “if Miller made that save Canada wouldn’t have won”. The ref is part of the game, same as any other thing on the ice, from the boards to the glass. Canada totally outplayed America in that game. The only reason it wasn’t over in regulation, the *ONLY* reason, was because Ryan Miller had the best game of his life. People seem to forget that. Ryan Miller was unbelievable for 99% of the game, and then he lets in a pretty weak goal. That was a 100% saveable shot. He made 2 mistakes. He played it into the corner with Canadas top line out & was beat on a no look shot. The ref jumping wasn’t even a top 5 reason why Canada won that game.
My brothers and dad and I were watching the game on our TV. Parise scored with 25-24 seconds left, so my dad was like "their going to OT, I'm going to go take a bath, call me if they score". Little did he know he'd miss Canada's greatest pass followed up by Canada's second greatest goal of all time. '72's "Henderson!" is my #1 if you're wondering...
i went to my Moms house and we watched it together, needless to say a great memory withher, scared the shub out of her as i hit the roof... lol and some 😢 but memories, thanks to sport
Team U.S.A could have won! And every Canadian knows it. This should be a heritage moment. It's crazy how dear and near to our hearts this moment is to us as Canadians.

All of Canada believed that year. Canada winning its highest number of golds in an Olympics and highest than any country. Then winning gold in hockey was the cheery on top.
I think Crosby's reception and settling of Iggy's pass was the most impressive part. Iggy put way more into that pass due to being knocked down. Crosby showed Magnetic, Puck on a String, Shnipe, Heatseeker, and All Alone ZONE abilities just on that one play. The best athletes make it look easy, but anyone who's played hockey at any level knows - that play goes very differently 99.9% of the time if being attempted by pretty much anyone else.
USA goalie got irate with his Buffalo Sabre head coach Lindy Ruff who was an assistant coach at the Olympic games and who provided Team Canada with tips about Miller’s weaknesses that Sid the Kid took into consideration in blasting that overtime winning goal.
Never felt more patriotism and national pride , than during those 17 amazing days in Vancouver . Wonderful memories.

Iggy may have never got a cup but he got the best assist of all time
@@sergecharlebois6114 And now, he will be a hall of famer next year.
Iggy had some huge goals/assists in finals for Canada. Too bad the Flames were mediocre for his tenure there
He was on two gold medal teams.
The cup is literally the only major award that Iggy never got. But that assist is legendary
He was so close to getting that Cup too in 04
Honestly one of the biggest sports moments in my life
I don't even like hockey and I agree
