I'm from Vancouver and I only wished that Luongo won the cup with the Canucks the year after 2010. It's so sad knowing that he retired a while already. I just wish one day that the Canucks will finally win the Stanley Cup.
The Crosby goal and the Eberle one I'll never forget. That entire World Juniors tournament that year was insane, especially that game and the New Years Eve game against the States. Living in Ottawa made it even more amazing. I took off work for all of those Vancouver Olympics as well and just sat there on the couch every day watching every single piece of Canadian competitions I could. Crosby basically ending the whole Olympics there after he had a rough tournament, and everyone feeling defeated after they gave up the lead and went to overtime was just perfect.

I remember the game against the US in the junior championship, I was a kid Leksand hosted it that year, I was in the middle of the huge group of canadians, I remeber we took pictures they gave me pins, jerseys, hats it was just amazing, a memory for a life time
People wonder why us canadians are so good at hockey. We eat and sleep hockey from a young age. We sweat, bleed and break bones for this sport. We donate teeth to the ice. And at the end of the game we can do nothing but smile because we have nothing but love for that pain and punishment.
Iconic goal for sure. Good for you for getting that photo signed and framed. Still, I don't consider it a pretty goal by any measure. I thought it was a ugly goal from the moment it went in. I never saw this as a 'golden goal'. This goal was ugly and it won a gold medal for my team. Keep in mind, I was born and raised in Vancouver. I lost my shit when Crosby scored this goal; Canada won in my home city. I still think this goal is overrated, though. Compare Crosby's goal to Joe Sakic's epic breakaway 5-2 goal in 2002... Sometimes it is impossible to have unlimited overtimes, due to fact that there might be another game waiting after that one. Sometimes no, but there can be lots of issues if games go into multiple overtimes in tournaments. But yes, I agree. Shootouts are a dumb way to find a winner. I was at two of these games. 2009 New Years vs USA and the OT semi-final game against the Russians. Unforgettable. New years eve game we were getting clobbered. US players were skating by the Canadian bench every time they scored in the first. You could see it was getting Canada's Irish up. It was obvious play was going to get testy. And it did. Tavares literally put the team on his back to engineer the win. And in the semi, tons of people were leaving the game with 2-3 minutes left and down 2-1 to the Russians. To beat traffic, I guess. But once you were out of the rink, they don't let you back in. Too bad those thousand or so fans missed the greatest comeback I've ever seen live. Magic. And Tavares and Eberle were the last second act and put on that amazing show. And the 5-0 final to win gold against the Swedes was almost anti-climatic.
