  • We all make mistakes - especially when we’re starting out. I mean, even the most successful businesses have gone through their share of challenges.
    The hope, though, is that the mistakes that happen are small and inconsequential, right? Well…it doesn’t always work out that way. You know how they say that you’ll end up spending more in the first year than you actually make? Well, for many of us, that’s the reality. But - it doesn’t have to be.
    It wasn’t easy to learn how to run a business and I made my fair share of mistakes that cost me a lot of money. Thankfully, each mistake was a huge learning experience for me, and that only makes everything you do later on have greater chances of success.
    Today, I’ll let you in on the three most expensive mistakes I made when I started my business - so you don’t make the same ones.

    Thank you for sharing, Mei! Most business coaches act like they're perfect and they're always rolling in sales and money and when I can't produce those kinds of results, I end up feeling like there is something wrong with me and my business. I really appreciate you being so open and honest!

    I made all the typical mistakes most newbie's make: had a large variety of items in my shop, charging way to little for my products, etc.

      We definitely learn as we go. As frustrating as it is, those mistakes can teach us a good lesson.

    Hi Mei, i’m starting a hand beaded jewellery brand with pearls, seed beads and precious stones. I was wondering if you do a video on buying materials when you’re starting out. I’m not sure how much I should buy, whether I should go to different stores and when I need to eventually go to bulk. As of right now I love going in person to the store from a small business in my area and I like supporting local, they have a website as well so I can buy on there but I like seeing my pearls and stones in person. Unfortunately where I am there’s a big lock down so I can’t go there right now. How would you suggest buying materials, estimating how much you need for stock and keeping track of it all! Thanks 😊

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  3 года назад +1

      That's a really great idea, Ava! I'll add it to my list of video ideas! I know it can be tough when you can't see materials in person. One thing I would suggest would to be joining a jewelry group (maybe one that is stones specific?) on Facebook so that you can ask around for resources. Makers within your field are most likely going to be pretty forthcoming on good places to source materials.

    Thank you so much for your videos!! I had a question, I want to start selling products for my designs, but I don't know if I like the idea of print on demand because I want to be able to add my personal touch - a note, a coupon, a free item here or there - Do you think it's worth it to order products to have on stock at home? Would appreciate any thoughts!

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  3 года назад +2

      You can definitely do it that way, yes. Just make sure you are able to keep inventory stocked somewhere, and that packing your own orders isn't going to overwhelm you. 💗

    Thanks for sharing Mei! Wow...I have made mistakes along the way, my biggest was to run a crowdfunding campaign with an inexperienced VA. I thought I had vetted properly, but she knew nothing about her social media nor marketing. Not only that, but I failed and learned so much from the experience and the complexity of crowdfunding. Would I do it again? Only if the team and presales were in place and much better understanding of the running ads.

    Thanks for sharing. Been binge watching your vids as I start a new handmade project. For my previous businesd. My mistake was setting up Google ads, getting a bit lost in how they worked and not realising they defaulted to auto-renew 😪 clearly didn't have a good campaign anyway as I wasn't getting sales and only realised when I got a big bill! But because I had technically had the advertising that ran after auto-renewal, they couldn't do anything so had to foot the bill. I'll stick to FB marketing next time! 😄
