- Maya Portorreal, 27, started Kitten Co. with just $2,000 as a one-woman team in 2019. Making $45,000 a year at her full-time job, her jewelry side hustle generated her $250,000 in her first full year. Brand ambassador promotion on Instagram and business classes helped her grow her sales to $472,000 in 2020 and $350,000 in 2021. Her pieces range from $30 to $250, making them affordable jewelry. Working out of her apartment in Union, New Jersey, she’s added her mom and one remote worker to help with the company.

@@picklesmccoy7796 The subway is part of NYC's mass public transit system and it's inexpensive. So, when she said, "finally pay for the subway," she meant that she was going to continue taking the subway rather than buy a car or find some other mode of more expensive transportation. The purpose of doing that would be not to stifle her financial growth by not giving into lifestyle inflation/lifestyle creep.
@@picklesmccoy7796 I also wanna add that a lot of people get out of paying. There is a turnstile that will let you through after paying with your metro card but many people will just duck under without paying. The people who don't pay generally are poor and struggling.
