- Have you ever wanted to quit your job, but worried if you’d be able to make ends meet? What if you could actually make more money outside of the traditional 9-5 job? These 3 millennials are doing just that - enjoying their new six-figure salaries well outside of the corporate offices from which they started.
Meet Alex Fasulo, a freelance writer on Fiverr who makes $378,000 a year. She primarily ghostwrites e-books and blog posts remotely from Florida. Before becoming a freelancer, Alex worked in PR and made $36,000 a year.
Michael Oh is a private chef from Atlanta, Georgia. After being laid off from his corporate job during the pandemic, he decided to pursue his passion of cooking full-time. He now does around 4 parties per week and makes up to $14,000 per month.
Alexandra Botez is a professional Twitch streamer who makes six figures playing chess online. She and her sister Andrea Botez have over 1 million followers and are signed with Team Envy, a global esports and entertainment company.

Why Millennials Are Leaving Their 9-5 For Six-Figure Jobs
Ah thank you again for having me on!
Congratulations
Your European accent is awesome
@@RohanSanjith its American
Congratulations on your success, the part about posting how much you make. Yes some people maybe haters but I think it's for your own good keeping your financials private, it's not because you are a woman.
*Outsources Freelance Gigs
I was just fired from my job last week, and my manager smiled after letting me go when I started to cry. I hate that I let one source of income dictate my life so much. I really hope I can get here one day. The freedom.
When one door closes, another door opens. That was a blessing in disguise, hun. You’re on your way to where you actually belong now! 😊❤️
Always remember u can never fire someone who possess multiple skills
F that manager. That’s a horrible thing to do. I’m willing to bet that person is miserable so they enjoy putting others down. Keep your head up and know that things will get better. There’s a phrase or a saying that I always remember when things are getting stressful. “This too shall pass.” Don’t know who said it or where it came from or if I’m even quoting it right but I use it to remember that no matter how hard it is right at this moment it won’t last forever. “This too shall pass.”
YOU WILL.
The reason you were let go is because God has something better for you.
This had to happend for greater thiings to come. .
Put God first in Jesus Name and everything else will follow. .
This is a Blessing in disguise .
people who are lazy think that this is the "easy" way. no. it is the hard way. these people are all talented, hardworking, entrepreneurial, and visionary.
Yes. I'm still trying to make it e-commerce. In the meantime, I'm finishing my medical education.
@@KayDejaVu that is two very different things to be doing lol
@@napolic4696 E-commerce is not a reliable source of income. It may bring fulfillment but, you cannot expect economic freedom from it since there is no income floor. Medical on the other hand, is the most reliable degree you can get your hands on. Most medical degree holders enter the field and earn enough money to run a family. So, you go to the e-commerce route in hopes of striking gold but, you pick medical to avoid the risk of being impoverished.
Yes with the first girl in the video it was stated she can write a full e- book in 2 days. These guys are all extremely talented, makes it much easier to live this way.
They need to make a vid about lazy people that somehow made millions, then I'll be intrigued.
Entrepreneurship is not as glamorous or cool as people believe. It is for very disciplined people who are willing to work harder and longer for freedom.
I left my very stressful banking job to drive Uber while building a media company. I work longer hours but I really enjoy the freedom.
Agree , you get to do what you love, but you have to work really hard, live often much more insecure financially and pension plan has to come later, when / if you get success.
@@larsstougaard7097 True. That's when discipline and hard work comes into play.
Let me put it this way: Entrepreneurs would rather work 16 hours a day 6 days a week doing what they love than working 8 hours a day 5 days a week doing what they hate for the same income. It seems irrational but it is not for everybody. In entrepreneurship the rewards comes years later (or never) that is why your 1st motivator as an entrepreneur should never be money but the journey.
Also, you have to have the discipline to work alone and be careful with your money because no one will push you and there is no benefit.
This is true. The reason people think is glamorous is what's portrayed in the media and how coaches or gurus frame entrepreneurship. When in reality, being self employed means you will earn every dollar you make.
I think the irony of this statement is flying right over OP's head. Truly, 'freedom' is in the eye of the beholder. They enjoy "freedom" of working long hours with more financial insecurity at the whim of a tech giant notorious for no safety nets and large structural exploitation.
You traded one version of neo-slavery for another!🤣
@@jonno.alexander With the exception of trust fund babies, no one could jump out of the "slavery" overnight. It is a slow and gradual process.
I went from working in the financial industry which is highly restricted, regulated, stressful, unethical and indoctrinating, to drive a rented car on my own terms (no shift, no boss, no trainings, no difficulty clients, no uniforms/suits, no competitive coworkers, no vacation request, no deadlines to meet, no licenses to maintain, no prohibited outside activities...), while having the flexibility, the time and no restrictions to work on my own personal project.
I am not here to convince anyone. I am just sharing my experience. If you believe that the two are the same either you are completely out of touch with reality or lack intelligence.
To everyone: Please don't take this as a call to quit your job to pursue something different. Understand that these people are very good at what they have quit their jobs to pursue. Understand that your health and mental health matters, but not as much as perhaps putting food on the table for your families or even feeding yourself. Stick with it, and slowly let go. I hope that this video helps to inspire you, bu please, don't make any rash decisions, drop cold turkey, and leave a relatively "stable" job for something that may make you worse off in the future. Thanks for reading this, have a good day/night.
and also some just have OF but call themselves entrepreneurs so be careful
Too late, I quit!
Most of these are lies anyway.
@@karlabritfeld7104 They are not lies. It is possible to achieve this. The chances are just very low to make it happen that way
Exactly!
“How THREE millennials left their 9-5 for six-figure jobs” - there, I fixed your title
yup i hate how they make it seem like a large scale thing like everyone can become an entrepenuer
Outlier stories are dangerous, because they make people think that anyone can do it just because a few people did.
These people aren’t doing less work, they are just getting paid well now for something they actually enjoy.
The pandemic forced ppl to “figure it out”. The government didn’t expect that which caused a shortage of labor because why would someone go back to a low paying job that treats them like trash when they can make the same about independently?
Yeah, there is no “going back go normal”…. America needs to normalize paying ppl a livable wage and treating employees with well.
@Mary. Paying Americans a respectable "living wage" may not happen for a LONG TIME...
ONE FACTOR...
I suspect that there will (inevitably) be more waves of central/south americans illegally crossing the USA-Mexico border & settling in various states where they've established a presence.
(They've already "flooded" some communities around Washington, DC. The corrupt local & county governments turn a "blind eye" because they know employers can hire them at bargain basement LOW wages to do construction & service sector jobs - powering the regional economies on cheap illegal labor). American corruption at its finest... 🤷🏾♂️
Well said.
@@UXtatic. Ohh, I didn't even get into the reality that for 20+ YEARS... state & federal governments have mostly sat idly (on the sidelines) while companies have moved their manufacturing & production plants overseas. That quietly eliminated THOUSANDS of American jobs... 😳
Couldn't have said it better myself. 👍🏾
In case you are not aware, a lot of people have not figured it out.
This is by far the exception and not the rule. Not everyone can make large sums on a platform like fiverr, it's a cluster these days. Especially not as a writer.
why not as a writer? (why is it worse than other types of freelancing?)
@@alexandragrt I wouldn’t say it’s worse necessarily. However, I would consider it to have lower/fewer barriers to entry than other disciplines.
Yes, this right here. These are EDGE cases, and that Fiverr chick must offer something very special that most anyone else could not offer, in order to have this kind of success. I hope no one sees this and just assumes they can make it happen too, and then quits their day job.
I mean she started using fiver back in 2015. Just like any of these websites that are up and coming it's easier to get big than after it's flooded. Not that she isn't talented because she has a real talent for writing if not she wouldn't of continue to get big.
Facts!!!!
I was big on leaving corporate life after a terrible experience at my first role out of college. It can definitely traumatize you into wanting autonomy. 3 years later I’m in a completely different career path, love what I do and make 6 figures working from home. I think the people you work with and whether or not you actually enjoy what you’re getting paid to do can affect your perspective on 9-5. But I agree, that freedom
of working for yourself and not worrying about layoffs is pretty liberating. Wish these ladies the best!
Yea being able to work for yourself, manage your own time and money alot better/correctly is the reason a person like me would be okay with a work from home job. Any other reason like being a housewife or house slave/servsnt/prisoner is not for me lmao. So good points.
How do you make so much from home? What industry??
What position do you work that gives you that freedom of working from home & pays well

Hello 📥
Hey, we 50 year olds can do stuff on line too. I just started my virtual business on the side.
@@noellefinlay998 Congratulations! How's your business going? What kind of a business is it? I get daunted by all the capital and overhead needed, especially in the form of subscription services (website, credit card payments, customer service, VPN, pro email, etc.), business registraction, IP on brand name, taxes, professionals, etc. It seems to balloon quickly. Ot can produce losses very quickly. Did you have capital for this?
@@ana419 I have linked to mentors and professionals to advice me on some of those issues. My business is virtual so the startup is not as high as brick and mortar. I put up some of the initial amount but I also have family and friends who invested.
@@ana419 I am still working so it is a side business until it grows. Don't be too fearful. Find mentors and persons who believe in you to give you the inspiration, motivation and advice to go on. They can be your mentors too!
The reality of freelancing is the VAST majority of clients want professional level work for criminally low pay and that's if you're lucky. Most clients will fight tooth and nail to weasel their way out of paying you at all. Success in freelancing is an exception, not a norm.
I still haven’t cracked the code on how to break away from a 9-5 but I hope I eventually figure it out.
I sincerely hope you do too.

Most online influencers who shun traditional work are far more Stakhanovite than the 9-to-5 crowd. With online work, there’s no clocking off. Your boss is an inscrutable algorithm that rewards non-stop sensational content. And your followers? Well, they can be as demanding, bullying and intrusive as any bad employer.
it's basically flame that burns bright burns out 5 x faster.
What people keep missing is the social aspect. You have to be self-marketable to do this. Outsourcing--convincing people to work with you for a cut. Writing a book in 2 days sounds impossible but ghostwriters use 2-3 writers at a time for one book, plus editors. A group of friends can easily do this, but said friends have to know where to go, and who to convince towards buying their services. It's the same for all types of arts, music, fine arts, fashion. Who do you know? How can you make them like you enough? There's your money!
That is why this is BS! You have to marketable which is why all the ladies here aren't disabled nor disfigured. They all have pretty privileged! This video doesn't say that!
Time to start to DCA back into index funds, SPY, QQQ, etc over the upcoming months!
Completely agree! These success stories are maybe 1 in hundreds.
That experience of doing something without anybody „telling you what to do“ is so precious and empowering. 🙌🌟 how else would you find your own strength! Certainly not by „anybody telling you so“…
that's such a misnomer. your clients will be the ones telling you what to do. why do you think so many small businesses fail, and why so much freelancing remains as a side gig.
I learned that when you see an opportunity in the market you shouldn't be afraid to take it. One of the many reasons people stay poor is because they are afraid to take financial risks.
Lol, if you're poor and you take financial risks, you'll end up homeless if it doesn't work out. Then you'll be labelled as lazy, unmotivated, and a welfare queen. You probably also have some amount of debt from taking out loans to start your business so if you haven't yet gone into bankruptcy, you'll be hounded for the money you owe by debt collectors. If you ever get to explain how you ended up in this spot, you'll be criticized for having no business sense and being horribly irresponsible for taking such an obviously unjustifiably risky bet given your economic situation at that time. You should've stayed in your safe job, built up a larger emergency fund, and then continue working while you spin up your side business, working 80 hour weeks until you can finally quit your day job. /s
26:55 Chess didn't provide Alexandra the opportunity. It was her interest and her drive that created the opportunity. She went above and beyond with what she was interested in and I can assure you that she would have done the same if she was in a different hobby/interest.

I am a Gen Xer, that has birthed millennials, eagerly opened to learning and growing. I definitely take the lessons learned here, bet on myself and forge a new path forward. I worked in Corporate America, made 6 figures, working my way up, completely miserable. As fate would have it, I lost my job but was released from tying my life's work into a thankless, less fulfilling job. Fortunately I don't tie my self worth in titles, but I did go through a period of mourning, cause I worked so hard to get to that position and it ended in a less than amicable 'divorce', but freedom to pursue something meaningful and lucrative. Love this content! So inspired how this generation is rewriting the narrative and forging their own way forward, really embracing what makes them so passionate at life and not relying on work at a major company limit their growth and opportunity. @@FreedomofSpeech865 Some people can't even afford a month without work in today's climate.
@@BreadCatMarcus The unspoken assumption in all of these kinds of uplifting entrepreneurial stories is that you have already got at least some funds saved up to meet your needs and obligations (if you have a family for example) as you get started. If you don't have funds saved up, you work reduced hours or part time to give yourself runway to startup your own business. These are not "I have 2 cents in my bank account and have no job. Time to start working as a private chef" situations. Most people who live paycheck to paycheck are not eligible for this path to financial security unless they happen to find a particularly good opportunity that they already have the skills to capitalize on.

People have to realise that first, these are hand picked people who are obviously really good at something, while there are countless who didn't get that far. Second, freelancing doesn't mean you work less, in many cases it is more because you cannot allow your self time off much, as your income is directly proportional to your time invested.
more people freelancing less potential income Internet and social media created empty space that had to be filled up by lucky ones. New jobs like full-time streamer youtube are overflooded by people trying so hard with low results
At least ur not set at a salary. Thats the point
@@Vanessabobessa10 some people prefer to have fixed salary to have “secure” income to have family etc. not everything is about just money. Not everyone is ambitious to build something. You need poor people to be rich or wealthy. You must be outstanding outsmart anyone to be rich
actually that's wrong; your income as a freelancer isn't related to your time. its related to your output. ie how well you are able to optimize. A salaried job is related to your time. Outsourcing, automating, and delegating can proportionately sky rocket your income: making your more money with less time invested.

The Fiverr girl story is hard to believe. Who would pay someone that much money to write? She didn't say specifically. I want more details before I'm convinced. Sounds like something Fiverr made up to hype themselves up to get more people to join.
It's believable. Her ability to write and name behind it. She was able to find a way. Celebrities out there are always looking for a ghost writer to partake in a good memoriam/ about the author. Even small writers who wins from take a break from writing hire a ghost writer. Not everyone has the right hand in grammar, punctuation, and the ability to draw readers in. But some do. there's reason people advise to not talk about money. it can breed resentment. its like any game. that person scored 1 million points and all i scored is 50,000 now i feel inferio and bad.
Love Chef Oh’s vibe so much
This isn’t feasible for most. Most can’t you know, start their own business and live off that. Most don’t have the privilege of having funds for this type of thing
The first segment with Alex was SO relatable to me bc she lives her life while making her money. I completely understand what it's like working a job for intolerable management. I quit July 5, 2021 right after holiday. I was sooooo happy! I took one of my kids with me too. My 15 yr old saw me send the email, turn in my equipment to security and QUIT! We totally went out for breakfast afterwards 😊😁. I DO still work as a contractor, I turned up my efforts with my side business selling seasoning, and I am getting ready to watch that same daughter graduate 12 mos early! Being happy is just as important as taking care of financial responsibilities.
12 months early is a blessing 🙌 yes, it not uncommon but that doesn't diminish the light and doors that will open for your daughter. Thank you for being the best parent that you have been 💯 (lol, not my parents, but just a shout out as a great parent in general)
well she started it very early on when fever had way less customers
so it war relatively easy for her to make lots of money early on
how however market of FLOOODED
like crazy
@@canteskuyapete1459 I'm sorry I'm seeing this so late...but THANK YOU!!! I appreciate being seen ❤️.
@@allenk6373 You make an excellent point. Thank you for sharing that. 😊
Smart! Well done!
Inspirational.... Thank you!
fantastic!!! well done!
Men post financials all the time on social media and they are admired for the mostly. It sounds like the negativity towards a successful woman posting financials is mostly all from men. Does this not paint a very clear picture? Is it fragile male egos? Is it about power and control? I’m so glad she’s continuing to move full speed forward.
Nonsense. It's these ridiculous edge case stories taken out of context that create unrealistic expectations for people that watch these videos.
it's from biblical dogma that women were put on earth to submit and serve men.
Yesss...so many jealous incels every where. Especially in this comment section
Yep true that men always put down women and look down em I don't know why also disrespect in a way sexual object with no brain I guess how they are being raised by parents shows
look males are viewed by many as providers. if males are continually being outearned by females than you kiss the male provider role good bye which has been happening for decades already. male roles in society are being downplayed and marginalized. for the men that built civilization as we know it its rather disheartening.
I love these videos x
You GO Girl!! EARN & BURN! I just bought myself a condo in Miami Beach -- 2 blocks from the beach-- after losing everything in the 2008 Crash-- i lived low for 10 years to make it all back 💪🏻No help/ No hand outs/ no Man🤷🏼♀️
Just Hard Work!
Wow this gave me so much inspiration
Being your own Boss takes so much work, discipline and sacrifice. I'm now own my company but it took a good 10 years to build it. You need another source of income or support because while building your start up business it can't pay the bills. Also Entrepreneurship needs capital. If you don't have capital you have to hustle. It is not glamorous.
It may not all be glamorous, but keep in mind that most videos are mean to be uplifting ok. These are the highlights of that persons career, as it should. It's an inspirational video. Now, if your want to make a video showing otherwise, do 100% so. No one is stopping you.
So guys she went from a 9-5 to a 6-6 essentially. It takes work to make 6 figures. News flash you can't make 6 figures without putting in the time. So expect to have no clock out.
Another fantastic video! 👍🔥
Where I work, I see a lot of persons wanting to quit their job so they resign but HR and the managers refuse to allow persons to resign. When since persons are held against their will on jobs!?! 😆
I have left more then a few jobs. How can a company hold you there against your will?
I love how these videos make it seem like everyone is doing it.
Must be nice to be a position where you can quit your job and not have to worry about where you are going to live, no children depending on you etc.
These are choices
@@maureenmurphy8196 yea in a black and white world
You can always start a side hustle whilst still working, and then only quit your job when the side hustle becomes successful
@@Jman10011 Only possible with the right support system
Precisely why I decided not to marry n have kids. I've seen ppl lose their freedom once they got married and kids make it even worse
There are so many things you can do know to make money on your own. I never thought I could design t-shirts and do youtube full time but it's a real possibility. The Creator Economy is real. If you have the right content you can make it work.
Chef Oh is dopeee! inspiring for sure
In developing countries its hard to do freelancing ,payment integration is hard and all the resourses are too costly.
😀from Nepal
try to get remote clients from developed countries. Quote lower prices than the freelancer in developed countries, you'll get picked cuz of the price difference, but because of the conversation of currency values, you'd still be making good money
The second story is interesting. I've never heard of a private chef before. An interesting new perspective.
Really??!!!
private chefs are in the domain of wealthy people.
Thank you for inspiring us to go out of our comfort zone and do our passion x work 😃😃😃
I can relate because I’m going through the same exact cycle. I have not made it yet. I’m again looking for a 9-5 job and I feel like a failure. Ugh, so frustrating at the moment looking for that breakthrough success
You are not a failure. Your job does not define your worth and value as a person. I am sure there are other aspects of your life that are cause for celebration ~ freedom, good health, peace, sanity, happy relationships, support systems etc
Don't give up. Keep at it. One foot in front of another, and you will get there. God bless.

Big commercial for Fiverr. Shameful content advertising
Moronic comment. Only 1/3 of the influencers here use Fiverr.
I was over workers under appreciated and had hours taken away from my family and kids, I'm so glad I'm my own boss now and I even make triple my income I use too..
What do you do?

She killed the work and she has hit the super green flow. keep pressing that button to fine tune that skill and product more and more and more
I didn't leave my 9-5 and make six figures.
Congrats!
