I am so relieved to hear there is templates when you start! I start in October and been out of education for AGES so that has actually made me sigh with relief haha!
So many good points there. Great advice for any student, especially those who are new, but also those of us who are going through our second/third modules. I too did EVERY quiz, took copious amounts of notes, attended as many tutorials as possible for TM111 and it served me well. I've done the opposite for MU123 and while it's going fine right now, I know i can't keep winging it as my maths knowledge from high school is only going to get me so far. I've basically just looked at the TMAs and then looked at the textbooks to see which area the question relates to. So I'm still trying to find the right balance. I still haven't really learned how to take notes. I used them more as a way to remember things than to actually revisit them lol. I can't do the diagrams that people use as they make no sense to me - I only make sense of words and numbers. And being brutally honest, I can't read my own handwriting most of the time lol. As for motivation, I'm 100% with you. I can be extremely motivated (esp in the summer) or not at all (like now), and it's thus very important that I make the most of the days where I am motivated as, like you say, you can get a lot of work done in one day.
Thank you for the tips! I am about to start my first year with E102 and E103. I'm a mixed bag of feelings at the moment, but very excited. I hope you enjoy your second year and that your studies go well :)
Thank you so much for this, I'm going to start my first year doing b100, db125 & lb170. I've already done session 1 and prepping for tma1 for b100 to try and get ahead but not too far ahead. I've never been to uni before and this is completely different. Congrats on your distinction and best of luck for your second year! X
Hi there , I am doing the same b100 bd125 lb175 I’m scared a bit as I’m working as well part time and is my first time in UNI . Any tips/ recommendations?😅
Yeah I got a distinction first year too. Unfortunately it's a complete waste of time and doesn't contribute anything to your final grade. and the ramp up in standards and expectations is nuts going into year 2 with precisely no support or communication about those expectations. Also for those that don't know the tutors cant take drafts, won't ask specific questions, cant look at your work, or really be of any use whatsoever. Imagine calling a friend to be a sounding board and then they tell you to Google it. That's the experience of having an OU "Tutor"
Hi, would anyone recommend doing the Business Management and Marketing degree with OU? I have also heard that OU standards have dropped in 2023, is this true? I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks!
So with the final grade of stage 1 not counting towards the overall degree ranking (ie distinction etc) does that mean that it doesn’t matter what you get at all in the first stage or do you still have a pass mark percentage? Like do you have to achieve 40% overall in stage 1 to be able to move on to the second stage ?
Hi great tips, Is open uni suitable for a person who has not done a levels? Also is a 3 year course intense in terms of how much time we have to give to study compared to 6 year. Thanks

I agree. I often get referred back to their PowerPoint. My tip number one would be you're doing it alone
Thank you 🙏 your tips are really helpful 🎉

hi, it’s worth checking the website for full details. they do suggest that a 3 year course takes double the time per week than the 6 year course 😁
good video thank you :)
Glad you liked it! Thank you xx
