    Quick links for quick comparison to the 3 mics in context. (22" kick with the mics on, and the rest of the drum mics in)
    3:58 Advanced CM48 Fet
    4:32 Flea 47 Superfet
    5:07 WA47 Jr

    I have the impression I hear more the different positions than the different mics. Just my 2 cents...

    I like the wa47jr on my home set up... but hearing this made me want to try the Flea. I was lucky enough to use a vintage U47 fet a few years back; it had the larger than life sound the Flea shows here. The wa47jr is good, but it doesn't do that big U47 fet sound. That being said... I feel like a touch of eq and limiting on the wa47jr would beef it up quickly.

    Thanks for the vid, I've never heard about this WA before, and it sounds great!

    The gain isn't equal between the 3 mics, hard to compare.

    is the signal of the the WA weaker than the others? Why didn't you bring them to same levels? The Superfet sound a bit to wobbly to me, the WA seems to the tightest in sound...more compact, maybe because of the lower level? I prefer the sound of the WA oder the Superfet over the AA CM48FET...but it depends on the rest of your mic setup i think! Great shootout!

    For the Money no question the Advanced Audio sounds fantastic and would be a great purchase. Flea 47 is a tad warmer and sounds incredible. The Warm sounds quiet and small in a very drastic way, so much so, its almost shocking.

      They did not level match the WA mic and any mic will sound weak when monitored lower. Unfair and misleading comparison

    Really great shootout, this vid should have way more comments and views. AA really was impressive, but makes me consider the AA 48 version (more polar patterns), I liked that the Warm Audio rejection kept the part clean and punchy.

    Interesting shootout format. The WA47jr sounded tighter. The Flea was open and more bass response. The AA was my least favorite, the Flea sounded great, the WA keeps sounding great all around on shootouts I have seen

      It sounds like AA was distorting (to me anyway), like the pad wasn't engaged... but it would've been nice to hear them separately and in a mix with the levels matched for the Warm. Personally, I think it sounds much more articulate and punchy than the Flea or the AA (and I love AA mics)...

    People rave about Warm Audio products... I'm routinely unimpressed with anything they do when it's A/B against the stuff they're emulating.

      Yea they definitely seem to get hyped alot on RUclips, but I have to say I have a u47jr and its incredible for the money...I routinely go to it over my lewitt 440 pure or akg 414, and I'm getting ready to order one of their wa251 just based on how impressive the 47jr has been...hard to get honest real feedback from these videos because they all come off like shills for one product or the other ...I think warm makes solid hardware for the money, but it's definitely not these 1:1 clones you hear these people shilling as though the 251 would be even close to the Telefunken elam 251 lol

      It's a mixed bag. The U47 Jr. is good, for the money, but still possibly the weakest of the lineup (and cheapest). The 14 is a good clone, I just don't love 414s, apart from maybe on piano. The U47 FET isn't tha cheap, and has competition from United, Advanced. But their tube WA-47 is a very good sounding mic. But would have to trust Warm Audio's build quality on a tube mic, where build quality is more important. Don't love their 67, much prefer the JZ Vintage 67. The WA-84 is really very close to the old Neumann KM-84, sounds fantastic to me, but you also get it's self-noise which is a little high by modern standars. Still prefer the sound of a WA-84 over a Neumann KM-184 on overheads and acoustic guitars. Their C12 is not the same as a real C12, on drums, but it's close on vocals. The 251 is a really excellent clone. Haven't tried the 87, but there's so many 87s in the market to choose from, so it's not super interesting.

    I just recently received the Warm 47 JR as a gift! Liking how it sounds on almost all instruments! In this test...what are price differences for the other 3??

    Why was the AA 48FET used instead of their 47FET as this is a 47FET comparison?

    • @blackwateraudio6493
      @blackwateraudio6493  5 лет назад

      Andrew MTS, generally speaking the only difference between a 47/48 is the extra polar pattern, 47 is cardioid/Omni, and the 48 is cardioid/figure 8. This mic has all 3 patterns. When I was researching the AA48 Fet, everything I read said this was just a bit more open than the 47fet, and was closer to the actual 47fet sound, where as the AA47fet tends to drift more towards a U87 sound.

    Hi, it would be great see you post a video comparison between the Shure Beta 27, Lawson l47 FET (both which have improved bass response), and AKG C314. Natural vs compression and EQ would also be much appreciated.
    I am considering one of these - mostly the Shure - and want to hear how these sound as there are no videos of either the Shure, Lawson, and AKG in a bass drum miking context.
    Appreciate your work, man.

    To not “apparent level” match the WA mic makes it very difficult to judge.

    • @busyboxst7
      @busyboxst7 10 месяцев назад

      Agreed, but if they were more mathematically level matched, it tells you it's more scooped, which is not what a Fet47 style mic needs to be.

    • @compucorder64
      @compucorder64 5 месяцев назад

      @@busyboxst7 I agree with you, and the United 47 too sounds better than the Jr, because of that. But it's also what makes it a perfectly decent kick out drum mic to use alongside a D112, D6, Beta52A. A Beta 52A or D6 will both bring out the impact, and often you'd be dialing out the low mids of a kickout track. Might need more lift at 7k for the impact than the Flea, but I'm sure it's very useable. With compression,and a touch of EQ, can get much closer in sound to the Flea. While it won't be _as_ good as a more expensive 47, for kick out, it can work very well for studios on tighter budgets. It's only about £250. Using it with a transformer pre will get it sounding better too. And I wonder if I had a U47 Fet Jr. _and_ a Flea, I could see myself using the Jr. on kick out, and maybe putting the more articulate 3 feet out in front of the kick, on a lowish stand. For that mid-distance room mic, where I suspect the difference would matter more. Might work well enough on guitar/bass cab too, alongside an SM-7b/SM-57, for bass reinforcement.
