Love that lighting explanation; visualizing a wireframe is such a useful concept! Great dramatic tone with the pure black shadow too, you can feel the emotional trauma of having watched his beloved home turn to ash 😢
@@saultoons It's a great model for that sort of thing - I think I normally hop straight to imagining the object in 3D, which isn't depicted with those useful gridlines in my mind 😅 Nice, could totally even see an "Eye of the Tiger"-style revenge training montage hahaha
Good choice to show the actual way you do it by experimenting again and again. Too many other pix art tuts just make it look so easy and flawless, without revealing their experimentation process too much. This can be daunting for noobs to watch, such as my self, when we're kinda led to believe that it's so easy to do. Greeeaaat tutorial again Saul!
Yeah I think some processes actually do get it perfect first time because they’ve refined their process so much. But I’m still a noob really so it helps to do a lot of back and forth, and that’s ok 😁 I’m glad I could get that across in the video. Thanks paypercutts ☺️
I can't thank you enough, I just got into pixel art/animation and your channel helps me out so much, your tutorials just have something about them that keep me watching, I learnt so much by just looking at your walking tutorial. I would definitely recommend your channel to my friends if they wanted to start pixel art
Great tutorial! Experimenting is a lot of fun, but giving yourself certain limits to keep things simple enough (like what you did with the color of the shadows) is a very effective way to avoid getting too lost in the details
Yes I usually end up getting lost when I don’t have a set plan, but also don’t have as many expectations for the piece so it’s more relaxing. Hard to balance between frustration from expectation or frustration from getting lost 😂 it gets there in the end at least! Thanks for your input Ginko 😁
hey, since discovering your channel I've been really enjoying all your videos! As an aspiring pixeler, your videos are so helpful and entertaining! Love your sense of humor
@@saultoons If I could choose, it would be a texture tutorial! I've been really struggling making glass objects in particular; the way light reflects and correctly using layers for transparency on colors. But I've made progress in so many things thanks to your videos, so please just keep doing what you're doing!
Dude... your videos and work are AWESOME.... I really appreciate your skills, knowledge and humor you share in all your videos... They have helped me improve my pixel art dramarically... Thanks a million sir... =)
HEY SAULTOONS!!!! Kinda sad the portraits I made didn’t get in the video but still I’ll use this tutorial to improve and maybe I’ll get in the next one!
Oh noooo! So sorry I missed your portraits, I only took the ones off the discord for this video as I was in a rush. Big apologies, please tag me in them again and I'll share on socials
Perhaps in the future, it's just like drawing any other pixel art really, the larger the sprite the easier it will be to convey detail. Focus on shapes and silhouette and ezpz
Hey man, thanks again for that amazing tutorial. I subscribed a short while ago and am not dissapointed. I started to try myself out a little bit in pixel art myself and your videos help so much, and beside the good explanations your humor is on point and the editing is just faboulus and so fitting. Now i have a question: I recently came across a game called blasphemous. Its a dark pixel art style game and i find the pixel art style just amazing. Now i wanted to ask if you maybe could do a tutorial on dark/ gothic style pixel art. All the tutorials I find are mostly quite cartoonie (and thats not bad) but i couldnt find any tutorials on some dark stuff or maby how to adabt/ analyze pixel art styles. Anyway, thank you for making the internet a better place and filling it with such quality content. (sry for any spelling or grammatical errors, i am not an native english speaker ^-^;)
Hello! Glad the videos could help! Yes a pixel art analysis on style is something I have been thinking about. It’s actually quite simple and based on art fundamentals which my next video will touch on, so hopefully that will be a good base for a style analysis type thing :) but for now, just try and observe these games and write down or think about the differences between a game like blasphemous and something more cartoony like super Mario. Look at the colours, they’re probably more desaturated, the shapes of characters and environments more complex and detailed as opposed to the simple shapes of Mario. The textures and materials more gritty and detailed. A good example on a very fundamental is the difference between Minit and Downwell! I’ll explain more in a future video, and maybe even future video series, thanks for the question!
@@saultoons thanks for the detailed Tipps. I will definitely try to work with them. And I really really really appreciate your effort you put on your community. @@shadow6719 You have to reduce the importance of the drawing. Maybe you're thinking you want to create the greatest art, but try and have fun with it. Do doodles. If you have a topic given like 'Mario' or something, then just try and draw Mario as you see him. Try drawing Mario in a couple different styles, etc. But some days it doesn't go well and that's normal too!
