    I love redraws like this because there's such a dramatic difference after 8 years of experience! The new sprites look great; values are on point, and I love the SF Alpha influence. I also admire you taking the time to create the background, it really elevates the drama for the combination of poses you selected and shows how far you've come 😁
    btw I had no idea you were running a community challenge for redraws; I think I inadvertently submitted my entry with my previous video 😅

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  3 года назад +10

      Thanks so much man! Even during this there were some slip ups and things I would change but we’ll have to see how I improve that after another long time 🤣 SF Alpha looks so good, right!?!? I have to try making something directly in that size and style one time. Hahah dude I loved seeing your recent redraw, you’re a constant inspiration, I watched you do your first Hulk drawing again from a while back and that’s actually what inspired this community challenge!!! ❤️ Always so excited to see what you do next 😁

    • @BJGpixel
      @BJGpixel 3 года назад +11

      @@saultoons Probably good to have some challenge/slip-ups because it just means you're still pushing yourself even while composing the new one - plus it'll give something to catch in another 8 years 😅
      Oh very cool, happy that could inspire this! It's funny to have our first drawings follow us; I'm sure I'll be destined to make more Hulks in the future 😂
      And thanks dude, same to you!

    An easy tip for static poses is to draw a vertical line downwards from the head and see if it's off-center or not. The opposite works well to suggest motion/instability (character fallong etc.)

    How do you work on pieces like these? Every time I start a big piece I do well, but when I take a break I lose all motivation to finish said piece and work on another one, leaving me with lots of unfinished works

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  3 года назад +2

      Yeah it can be difficult, I think you have to build up to big pieces because they can be demotivating. Finishing work is an important skill in itself, so if you struggle finishing things, just reduce the task so you can get it done. You'll learn much more from finishing a piece than not, so start small with projects and build your way up. For me, a lot of it comes down to discipline as well, I typically only work on one thing at a time, I take regular breaks but this forces me to finish it because I know I can't start anything else until it's done. I might not always be happy with the final result but I learn so much through finishing it. If you need any more help come and join the discord and we'll do our best

      What do you mean? Like convert to grey? You can put a layer of black on top and change the layer mode to brightness I believe

    This inspired to redraw my old pixel art too which by the way far worse than your first art
    just curious, over all how long does this drawing take in real time?

    • @saultoons
      @saultoons  3 года назад

      Haha yeah I had been doing digital art for a little while before trying this pixel art so it’s not my first digital based art that’s for sure, that is a lot worse and I can’t even remember what that was 🤣Excellent glad I could inspire you to give it a shot. Not sure exactly how long these take real time because it’s done in bits and bobs over a couple of days or week and sometimes I stream the process which is super inefficient for working so can’t say accurately, but for this piece I’d say around 4-6 hours :)

    My first actual pixel art is a brick
    It's more of an example thing but I did make a wall out of it
    It was 4 types regular cracked mossy cracked moss it's kinda boring so I added random flowers on the moss and i made a big brick and it was long time after I made the original and I made other art before the big brick like a slice of water melon and the big brick was terrible.

      That's cool, I love little pixel items like bricks, can be a really fun challenge :D

      @@saultoons I also made different sizes(other than big brick)they are regular long and small

      @@saultoons they all look really good and see something I learned is a grid or pattern is boring you should add small unique details that break up the pattern like moss instead of making it same for everything add a flower there another there but don't place it the same for every brick
      And make the vines cross from brick to brick to connect it and put unique shades of red green and purple
