Making a shiny Charizard card in pixel art... THEN 3D 😱 More of a fun video this time. I had a blast working on it, lots of silly edits in there. What do you think about it? Some of your entries were featured in the Who's That Pokemon section, if you want to see more then make sure you check the socials! ... Will still be making tutorials, so don't stress ;)
This video helped me so much! Thank you for showing each challenge you pushed through. It's too easy for artists to give up when things aren't going perfect straight away. This was encouraging.
Yes it’s good to take your time and challenge yourself, you’ll figure it out in the end and it will be worth it when you learn a lot. Thanks for watching :D
really love that the finished is not perfect. I'm stuck with perfectionist with my whole life and every piece use a ton of mental health and ended up burnout for 2yrs. Now I'm back at art and try pixel art by doing your 30 days creature challenge you gave. Thank you so much to remind me to have FUN in doing or playing with art.
I feel that Eddga, I struggle with perfectionism too. Hi, I'm your subscriber , I just recently started learning how to create a game and create pixel graphics. I would like to thank you for the pretty fun and interesting content you have. Perhaps I write with a mistake sorry but English is not my native language, and at school I scored on it now I'm sorry that I did not learn it and so I write it through Google translator)Good luck!
Loved it! Hilarious without over-editing and kept it to the point! Also amazing artwork, and great job figuring out blender. I’ve watched other RUclips videos of people creating things with blender and it blows my mind. Fantastic work. Love the card. Sell it as an NFT!!!
Thanks Gabriel! Yeah blender is nice, I’ve spent a fair amount of time on 3DSMax so some stuff was just about transferring workflows but I’d not done a lot with nodes before so that was fun to learn 😄 Hahah yeah I’m sure Nintendo would love that 🥲
I got a Charizard in a booster pack when I was a kid (also later on both Dark Charizard and Blaine's Charizard), but I had a deal with my brother that he would get all my rare Fire & Fighting Pokémon cards, and I'd get all his rare Lightning & Psychic Pokémon cards. So I had to hand it over; I'm fairly sure he still has it. I used to properly play the card game anyway, so from a gameplay perspective the base set Charizard was a relatively weak card (later on Dark Charizard and Blaine's Charizard were a little better, but still tricky to get rolling) - base Charizard took a long-time to get going, being a Stage 2 Evolution and needing 4 Energy to attack, and the double discard meaning it was only able to attack every other turn, with the 100 damage generally speaking simply being over-kill the vast majority of the time anyway. You were better off using Ninetails in a similar role - it being only a Stage 1 Evolution instead of a Stage 2, so easier to get on the field, and only discarding 1 energy instead of 2 per attack (meaning you could attack with it every turn once powered up instead of every other turn). It's 80 damage per shot was more than enough to 1-hit KO most things, and if something extra tough came up, you could just make up the difference with a PlusPower or two. Of course back then the game was dominated by 'Haymakers' (extra tough Basic Pokémon with good HP and strong low-cost attacks like Electabuzz and Hitmonchan), so it'd even be difficult at times to get a Ninetails up and running fast enough, you had no chance with Charizard. It's value was purely from a collectors' perspective, elevated due to his prominence in the TV Show, and the big numbers on his card by people that simply didn't understand how the game was supposed to work and how it was actually played ("Powerful but impractical" describes base Charizard in a nutshell).
Very interesting, I never actually played the card game we just collected the cards because they looked good. None of my friends ever understood the game in school we just tried to get shiny cards and were always disappointed with the energy cards though I bet they were useful in the card game! Thanks for sharing :D
@@saultoons For sure. Without Energy Cards in your deck, your Pokémon had no way to attack so you'd basically automatically lose if you didn't include any. As for Charizard, the earliest you could get it up and running was Turn 3, as you can't evolve Turn 1, can only evolve once per turn, and can only attach one Energy Card per turn. Turn 1: Put Charmander down and attach a Double Colourless Energy (Charizard's power would make it count as 2 Energies for attack cost - though not discard - purposes once you reached him) would . Turn 2: Evolve to Charmeleon, attach a Fire Energy. Turn 3: Evolve to Charizard, attach another Fire Energy. Attack, overkilling the enemy - discarding 2 Fire Energies, and now having to wait 2 turns before attacking again (you could use another Double Colourless to attack immediately after, but for discard purposes it only counts as one card even on Charizard, so if you did this you'd then have to wait 4 turns to attack again!). How much damage do you think your opponent can do in that time unopposed? Of course the above is the best case scenario, and unlikely, considering your chances at luck of the draw. Realistically, getting all the pieces you need would require alot of work (you'd have to burn through Prof. Oaks and Comp Searches putting you at risk of loss by deckout), and your opponent isn't going to sit there and let you power it up anyway. They'd play Energy Removal Trainers to stop you ever powering Charizard up consistently, or they'll Gust of Wind in the Charmander before it's evolved and snipe it down - forcing you to start trying to charge another one instead. You could evolve Charmander to Charizard early with Pokémon Breeder to avoid a snipe, but that 3-discard Retreat Cost is also going to leave it a sitting duck if Gusted into the active slot before it has enough Energy. Any Pokémon with a 2-cost 30 to 40 damage attack is going to take it out in short order before it can retaliate. Anyway, I'm sure that's enough classic Pokémon Card game talk for you for now :p.
Really great video! REally interested in the Blender part where you try to make it shiny, is there a video/ guide you could direct towards? I wanna try this out!
Hi, thanks for the love on the video. No specific tutorial, I’d recommend just looking up ‘masks’, getting familiar with the nodes system and how they work. It took me a little while to figure it out as it’s a little complicated. I just kept playing with it and then eventually it worked 🤣 Maybe I’ll put together a little tutorial for the shiny area in the future
I think it's actually Iridescent - I had this issue when creating the card because every time I googled 'Holographic' It gave me the wrong effect. How did you get the texture mask imm very confused because I'm trying to do the same thing
You create the texture mask yourself using black and white or in between values.
