    A bit of perspective; these comparable costs in other countries is much higher. The prices of buying these homes and renovating Them is frequently cheaper than rehabbing a kitchen in an American home. The point of these homes is to preserve historic homes and revitalize a town with a dwindling population.

      Exactly, small towns were I live in canada are only 100 to 150 years old. Imagine a 1000 year old town getting completely abandoned. That's tragedy.

      ​@arnoldo8563 She just wants to open people's eyes to reality. I think it's a fairly accurate video. I am a real estate investor, I have looked at the opportunities and have found. If you pay just 20000 euros more than the cost of renovating a one euro house. You can get a property in a more popular area with markets and cafes with convenient public transportation. These 1 € properties are in dieing villages. They are dieing for a reason .

      Okay people. You not getting a prime property for 1-30,000 Euro. As a German, I don’t look at prime properties. Most Germans who work 45-50 years are getting a small pension. Since I was a young man, the German government has been pushing people to buy property , have another small private pension plan, plus the government pension. Well. Now, pensioners must pay tax on all their income. Nice idea of the government. Now pensioners have even less and can’t afford to live in Germany. I left Germany 2005. Enough bull sxxx. Worked 14 years in Canada and moved 2020 permanently to Panama. Affordable living. - Back to the cheap Italian houses. I did ask my son in Germany wo is now 28 if he ever considered to get a property in Italy because houses are ridiculously expensive in Germany and the new property tax laws are insane. He could never afford a house in Germany. And the retirement benefits aren’t safe in Germany.

    The average I’ve read several places that most people spend on a 1€ house (€20,000 to €40,000) is less than 1/10th the price of houses where I live, so for me, I’d buy it in a blink, even if it cost twice that.

      @@bengraham5699 I''ve seen multiple of these houses near large cities (less than 60 km) and near the sea. You might consider this a shitty location, but I would love to have this as a vacation house.

      If you can work from home or other sources of income, otherwise living in a shitty location is not possible for people who need to work for money...

      I have been to first 1 euro project house when I was considering buying one. Don't recall the town name but it was on my way driving to Rome back in 2018. The houses were totally restored and nice but people looked miserable there. There was only one Cafe and it was close. The streets were OK, but the road to that town was not paved. After seeing that I gave up, couldn't see myself living there. I doubt there was internet, the mobile phone reception was limited. The place was in the middle of mountains. I asked the locals, and they told me I could buy a good house in the region for 40k-50k...no need to go to that extreme.

    Very nice explained. None of the videos on YT tells us about the actual situation of the village or city... I would like to know if they have a doctor, pharmacy, grocery stores, hospital, police, schools etc.

    I think this video was very informative and filled with a lot of great information that may help a lot of people. I think the delivery was excellent too, it was not negative in tone at all. It had information that is hard to find in other videos and I think that is helpful.

    It would have been good to include some positives in the video too. There are plenty of people out there who are happy to cover the costs you mention and are able to proceed with the project right away.

    It sounds like the extra costs and fees are supporting the local Italian government and bureaucracy. But even so, as mentioned by others it is still cheap compared to other parts of the world. You need to try and live there for a while before diving in and buying a property; if you already know Italy and the area you are thinking of buying, then it is not an issue. Certainly its a good idea for people from colder climates looking for a warmer place to retire.

    Why so negative about this scheme? €20,000 to €40,000 is the price of 1 car garage here is Malta... Let's be more honest and sincere about this video. The concept of buying these houses is a great opportunity for investment to help community and to keep local heritage. My friends, a Maltese couple took this scheme and they have a marvellous 2 bedroom home in the heart of Abruzzo, refurbished themselves with local Italian workers and they didn't exceed the prices you mentioned.

    Buying a house at 1 euro + 4-5k + 20-50k ~ 56k (on the higher end) is a bargain. In the US, I bought my house brand new for 299k, and it is now worth ~424k. Honesty, it is not worth that much. The way that these companies are building houses in the US for 3 months are not worth it. I rather buy a house in Italy for 1 euro + the other fees + renovation fees than buying a crapping home in the US. Can you imagine if I sell my house and then buy a house that was once worth 100k is now selling for 300k? My ex wife once had an apartment and bought it for 30k, which was great for a single college woman, and sold it for 50k. I told her to not sell it, and now she wishes she hasn't. That same apartment is now worth over 100k.

      85% of Italians have their own house, so prices are not inflated, there is no real estate bubble, health care is free, the food is one of the best in the world, and you are close to the best tourist places in the world.

      ​@@vinibelliero5905 I have to get rid of my ex-wife first. LOL Then, I'm moving back to Italy. The whole reason for the divorce is because of Italy. I had plans to move back, and I told my ex-wife, my girlfriend at the time, about it, and she replied with, "I will follow you around the world." At that moment, I thought I had found my best friend. Once we got married and had a daughter, I had the opportunity to work anywhere as long as there was an internet connection. She simply denied it and said that she doesn't like Italy. I was crushed, and it was downhill from there. Once this mess is settled, I'm moving back.

      @@PS-dp8yg I live in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, but I have the right to Italian citizenship, I'm finishing the process to move to Italy, I have a great apartment here, with a private pool, like a penthouse, in a resort condominium, in a neighborhood similar to Miami, at first I will not sell, I also work from home in my own company. The mortgage in Europe is very low so I'm thinking of buying a property in Italy and keeping both.

      You don't need to have a special visa to buy property there. You can just buy and use the property on a holiday visa if you want.

    My understanding is if you are thinking of Italy for the beaches then think again. The only beaches of note are in Puglia the rest are nothing to write home about. If beaches are your thing then go to Sardinia their beaches are spectacular otherwise Greece or Spain.
    If you like cliff tops with sunset views then it's Amalfi and Liguria.

    May I ask, when you find a property in Italy that you wanted to buy, how do you pay for it if you are a foreigner. What a acceptable form of payments. Is it cash only? Can I pay with my credit card or personal check to pay for notary public, delinquent taxes, etc? This is in relation to the 1 euro homes. Thanks.

    What is the weather like in Italy does it snow over there because I don't like snow or very cold weather I live in United States in Texas and it get really hot out here you cannot live without AC cold air or you will die the heat is unbearable but I also don't like cold weather especially snow.

      It snows in the northern part of Italy. But from Rome on south and Sardinia and Sicily there shouldn’t be any snow.

    Renovation will cost 5-600 Euros per square meter. Double that for extensive renovations.
    These costs assume that there aren't major undetected problems and that you'll find a competent and honest contractor (which in some areas is next to impossible).
    If you need to go to an Italian court of "justice", you'll never see your money again. EVER!

    Great explaination. Realy good. Its still a great idea to buy a 1 Euro house. Also when you pay more then a Euro, its still a great price. So you have a nice house when you get retierd. Why not enjoy the pension in Italy. Or when you are a Digital Nommad you have a home base. Off course for European people its very easy to move to Italy.European people has free movement for persons around the EU and Schengen Countries. For another persons, needs a little bit more papers. But you have a house. so its easier to get a visa for permament stay.

      the problem is the resale value. In that light it's not a great financial return and there is probably some restriction on how long you live there till you can sell

      @@edwardmacnab354 when you make this for investment, you can rent the house. And when you get retierd, you move in your house in italy. People how buy this houses, wanna keep the houses not to resale. I know some people they bought 1 Euro houses. they came never of the idea to thinking to resale the houses. They say all the same its so beautieful there. Nice people, exelent food and the lifestyle. I dont use the car for shop grocery, i can walk. Its normal when you live in cities or town, that you are walking or the take the public transportation for shopping groocry. The people goes two or three times a week to the grocery store, to buy fresh vegtiable or fresh bread or some cities has on the weekend a farmer market.

      You'll lose your down payment which can be up to and over EUR10,000, depending on the work required, as a security that you will start renovation within the set time frame by the rules of the council or a property development bureau. Btw, you will get this security payment back once you've started your repair work.

    It is the municipality that is selling the houses and does the administrative part. And the 5000 Eur is only a deposit that you get back after the renovation that must be within 3 years. Otherwise, if you have exact info on these administrative costs, give details.

    Do you really have to renovate? Maybe I like it derelict, can't I opt to live there as it is? I saw one video about this initiative and one house there was totally OK, with just the toilet needed some work.

    When you buy something rundown and vacant for years, the last thing you need is for some tyrants telling you what to do with a timeline. Better off buying house from private party.

    I think anyone who has bought a house anywhere (mostly at an auction) knows you have to pay legal and agency fees. Any good investment has a risk.

    Well, where I live, an hour outside of Toronto Ontario Canada, even rundown rat infested shacks sell for half a million Canadian dollars. If it has any amount of land, more than an acre, it will be over a million. House is worth nothing, the real estate is what has value, people will tear down the shack and build a new house. A farm, say 100 acres is several million with or without buildings.

    One thing that isnt mentioned is that these homes are very old and not retrofitted, they come crashing down in earthquakes.

    All the legal fees etc at most come to $5,500… as opposed to American legal fees of $200,000 (if not more)

    those houses are very old even a light earthquake it will collapse.. and its made only of bricks without any steel support..

      Dan you are so right! Im italian american curently living in Miami but I have traveled all of Italy including Sicily. Foreigners that buy in Italy really should study the areas of that country that have history of seismic activity. Like Sicily for example has seismic activity(Mt etna near Taormina) or Abruzzo region has seismic history. Those old houses were NOT built to handle even light tremors generally speaking and some of those houses /buildings have collapsed like sand castles/ BUYER BEWARE!..do your due diligence people !!!!
