      This record still stands!

    • @jimtaylor294
      @jimtaylor294 2 года назад +8

      It still stands partially due to being on the upper limit of what overhead wires can take.
      (much faster and they would start to boune around, damaging themselves and the pantograph; this's one reason the train was shorter than in regular service, and lowered one of its pantographs)
      A train running off internal batteries for the run or a different power source (like gas turbines) could go faster, but has yet to be attempted.

    • @legioner9
      @legioner9 2 года назад +2

      @@jimtaylor294 Imagine spooling up the gas turbines at 570 km/h, after the initial electric motor acceleration. :D I'd like to see a TGV go 700 km/h. That would be even more insane.

    • @PopFizzelz
      @PopFizzelz Год назад +3

      @@jimtaylor294 Just a minor correction to an otherwise great comment: You're right about the overhead wires bouncing were they to go much faster, however, TGV sets actually normally run with the front pantograph lowered when on the LGV, nothing unusual about that. (they have HV lines going through the length of the train to make sure both power cars still get full power) I'm pretty sure the shortened length of the train was mostly for power to weight concerns, since they wouldn't need to lug around 8 heavy duplex cars for such a speed test.
      As an aside, this particular set was actually demoing the powered bogies for the AGV, which means unlike a normal TGV, this set had drive on all of its axles!

    An absolute recognition to those who laid those incredible tracks. Their almost perfect setting is the only thing keeping that train from becoming a 600 km/h fireball. Wikipedia says the maximum hp of the train that made the record had 26,300hp so my calculations is a bit off but anyways. & Consumed 19.6mw instead of 24mw which i had calculated by watching this video. 😀

      ^ ATM aye; though Germany was also doing well re' Nuclear... until their Chancellor made the mad call to axe it all, to secure an alliance with the greens. They now rely in-part on France for power.
      The UK *would* be doing well re' nuclear... if the hapless politicians weren't knee deep in this net zero nonsense, which ironically is also anti-nuclear... because... quantum... I guess -_- .
      Then again there's A plan for moduar reactors at least, which might prove promising.

    The point that the crew was making is that while the train is customized - this is not a specialized track - it's a regular track, used daily for regular service. (As I myself pointed out, it's in TSW 2 - as is.) While you can't open it it up THAT far, the portion they used is part of your course in "High Speed Rain" - which is why I want that livery option. And considering that - other than it being Duplex - Liberty is the same train, it becomes why NOT Liberty Duplex?

    • @nm_attardés
      @nm_attardés 3 дня назад

      It was the equivalent of tuning a car for high performance: Shorter (3 cars instead of 8), more aerodynamic, larger wheels and higher voltage on the catenary.
      But even without it, a normal TGV can go very fast, especially during tests on a new high-speed line before opening, we're talking of speeds up to 360 km/h.
      And records-breaking TGVs were accompanied by another normal TGV that towed them to the record zone, then checked the record zone at high-speed to see if the test could be carried or not. For this one, the TGV n°4404 went at 380 km/h for these "high-speed checks", same speed as the first TGV record in 1980.
