It is amazing how stable the bullet train rails are. I've ridden the Shinkanseen in Japan more than a few times. You go through a tunnel and your ears feel the pressure change.

Those tracks would have to essentially be perfect in co struction. Any kind of imperfection at those speeds would be fatal. It is a testament to French engineering excellence.
Those are not normal tracks and wheels, you can tell they are some sort of alloy designed for those speeds. If you tried that on steel rails with normal wheels, the friction would super heat them both.

Problem is the railroads here are 99% for freight, so any highspeed trains would need to be built on brand new lines, which has a much higher environmental impact than an eco-friendly airplane would. Also, did you notice this is electric? Did you know France is very high, something around 80-90% nuclear power based, so you'd have to convince the eco nuts to let us build nuclear plants so these trains can get power.

Maglev's are faster, but this is more impressive, due to the TGV's use of a traditional crosstied 2-railed system. Not to mention, the Japanese Maglev is still experamental, this one carries passengers every day
