Great channel and info bro! I ran my own box trucks for over 15 years. OTR is much better and will pay your truck off faster. I also ran Amazon relay here in Atlanta. I hated it. But you always got work with Amazon.
I started OTR for the first six months then transition into doing final miles which I’m enjoying and I still have the opportunity to run local loads it’s less wear and tear on your truck and less over head cost from my point of view.
You are truly honest with your experience. God bless you friend!
You just kept it mad real 💯.. thanks brother
Thanks for the information Fam!!
Very informational and inspiring content brother.. may God continue blessing u
Thanks, I thought so 👍🏽! I have advised carriers of that when they inquire- I’m also looking to get a box . For OTR .
- the Dispatcher Dana.
Very helpful information I appreciate the jewels brother !
Thank you Vic . I was a driver and I was telling my owner that the pay and the hours are not adding up . I didn’t mind doing it . But I would pick up a load at 10 at night and don’t drop till 3 or 4am . Plus deadheading back . I told him I would rather go over the road to make more money .
Yes Amazon definitely doesn’t pay us what we are worth for Labor. OTR for us is the fan favorite 👍🏾
Right and they rarely have stuff coming back with amazon , we do a lot of dead head coming back with no money ✔️
Much respect to you for all of this free golden knowledge you are given the public. Wishing you blessings & double prosperity in this trucking endeavor🙌🏽❤️
Grate job wat you doing bro..you ar a teacher for us that got cdl and want to move on for better me and my fam. I be working for company close to 10yrs i dont regret cuz from rocky they was the first to help me get my expirience thanx to you info i cant wat to do this iknow i cu doit ipresiet it im from jersey wow i dint know i bout this grate stuff you sharing to us god bless men realtlk🤜🤛🇵🇷👏👏bravo.
Great breakdown. Amazon will definitely work you harder than working OTR.
Vic thank you for keeping it real. I'm almost 6 months in the game also and I'm trying to get setup with Amazon also but so far over the road , you are correct about not touching the load except to secure it. My truck is a lift gate truck and I also carry a pallet jack and a 2 wheel appliance dolly so if I need to use any of those in combination with my lift gate then there is a $175 up charge. Keep them wheels Rollin Cuzz
Dead on the money.. the more extra equipment you use.. up those numbers fam!! 💯
So you just tell the broaker what your charge is for using your lift gate?
thank you boss, good info
Great video and perspective 💪🏾
Your videos are very professional and understandable. Thank you
Hey Vick you are a very old school way of thinking you keep it real. Keep striving you are inspiring me.
Old school but def keeping up with technology, don't want to get left behind like the old old school heads. 😊👍
You are on the Right road you are educating us and Inspiring us
About what’s the average per mile OTR? And how much more do you charge for using the lift gate? Great videos!!! Thank you
Hey so how’s the schedule working for relay ? I know Amazon is 24/7 business they always got stuff moving but for a driver how does the scheduling side work ?
Great video. Question? For example., amazon pays per stop/load or per day? Also how many stops on average per day?
Definitely OTR .. way more lucrative
Hi please I have a question how your get offer for OTR jobs? I need help to know more options to make money apart of Amazon with a box truck. Thank you
Thanks for the advice
Hey man really like the videos, tons of info in them 👍🏼 What are your thoughts for people that will have a new authority that would like to start off Amazon relay in a box truck rental? This is all new to me and I’m taking in plenty of info and wanted to know if it’s money to be made using a rental starting off? I’m out of New Jersey, thanks in advance
If you can find a decent rental up there you might be able to make it happen. It's plenty of work up there.
think I’m going to give this a try I gota start somewhere lol
@@June4600 Did u start bro?
Hey great vids. I do OTR never got more for using my liftgate. Trying to understand how that would work. I figured since it’s a part of my truck, that just came with loading and unloading. Don’t understand how I can get extra money for that. Also when you talk about touching OTR freight and getting extra, are you meaning if you have to unload and take it in the warehouse yourself or you get extra just for having to move the freight to the end of the truck for them to unload it?
Only if I have to use my lifgate and assist to the ground and or using my pallet jack moving freight once it hits the ground. That would be called driver assist.
@@BiggVic Good morning and thank you for the knowledge and response. I had no idea. I hope you have a Blessed day.
I got a 24 foot box truck can I do amazon relay with that no lift gate 🤔
What load board could I look up to see what's out there so I'll kno?
Hru, I jus applied for my llc today could I do no touch freight?
Good video Bigg Vic! What are the evening hours for Amazon Relay?
Hours vary anywhere from 8p.m. to 7, 8 a.m. Varies on what routes or stops you have.
@@BiggVic those hours are like working a normal gig😔
Great content
No Touch Freight is where is at unless they pay for it.
Hay my man Vic. I feel like I have a business mindset and would like to get into box truck. Worked for uhaul as a costumer service for 3 years. My family has moved more than I can count with out using my toes. Lol I worked for a private club doing driveing delivery exclusively for them. Appliances delivery for a 10-99. My experience is there. My credit and ability to get in is my struggle. Family is willing to help but with lawn care style work instead. I can’t get a CDL for various reasons. I highly enjoy driving and do it well. I watch RUclips videos about possible income from the industry. I’m in North Dakota they just built a brand new Amazon warehouse near me. Is it possible my competition would be lower vs a more known facility? Or being as it’s a load board type job it’s common ground everywhere? I had one more idea how to do it but it seems like im rambling on at this point. Maybe I can shorten my story and say my family works for a local trucking company could I have them dispatch me and pay a percentage of my load? Anything helps for advice. Thx in advance.
What about a SE regional out of NC VA SC GA ?
Thanks for the video
great content... question how many loads will amazon allow you to book in one day?
There is no cap.
How much do you gross weekly doing OTR?
I’m thinking about buying a box truck for either OTR or Relay. What do the load boards in VA look like?
Check out my Live load board videos.
Is it worth to have 5 trucks in Amazon or not?
what questions do i ask shippers when im negotiating? if i need to use my jacks and move the freight should i surcharge?
Shippers will rarely deal with you direct as a carrier as I’ve learned. They prefer working through brokers. And yes charge more for using that pallet jack or driver assist.
Very informative
This what I was looking for and like you said on one of your videos . It’s good to start with Amazon for the first couple months until brokers start giving you loads .another thing if you drop Amazon of your insurance you save money
My question when you do OTR do you let fork lift load/unload your truck if your gvw is 26000 . 26 ft box truck
Thank you for the information
Love from Lansing Michigan
I don't let every fork lift on my truck. I always check the weight and size of the fork lift or I'll have them manually load truck with pallet jack or a motorized pallet jack.
What about rent? I've heard rental companies give you a better rate if you're doing Amazon. Can I just decide to go OTR after I have my rental and keep the special rate?
whats the best way to find consistent loads for box trucks OTR?
By getting great load boards and or establishing great relationships with brokers/shippers.
Could you do both simultaneously?
Absolutely!! 💯
can you do amazon relay with a 16 ft box truck?
No sir
When you 1st started did you use a broker
First 90 days all Amazon
What are your thoughts about mothership?
It's another source of revenue for your truck. Not available in my area.
My first time driving a boxtruck did Amazon relay 3yrs I thought I made good money until I switched to over the road
I like your microphone setup. Maybe you can do a video on your microphone setup. So people can have the knowledge how they want to set up a microphone setup. Welcome to my world
Have several videos on my setup.. Thanks for tuning back in.
Appreciate the info trying to get into the box truck game myself
@@BiggVic got that pro video and audio setup!
Is this available out here in Southern California Inland Empire area? TIA greatly appreciate any direction on how to get started out here.
Blessings to you and your business Sir.
does amazon do reefers and does it pay more and have less competition?
Yes they do reefers. Doesn't pay more. Couldn't tell you about competition.
I just ended a shitty relationship, OTR is gonna benefit me like a mdfkr. Fuck staying home lol 😂
Why not to complaint to amazon about this craziness of daytime loadings
Good video bro
Appreciate it
Can you do OTR as a new company start now
Absolutely!!
Vic i Hav 26 ft box. Thinking about putting a dorm sized refrigerator in the corner of the door entrance, does 12 pallets come up to the door? Probably not since gotta leave room for the pallet jack right?
All depends on the type of freight your moving it varies. That fridge probably won't be a good idea.
I prefer staying local with Amazon for my family. The better loads are gone here in Ohio as well. I had to partner with a local broker to get access to those better paying routes
And that's crazy how all of sudden brokers are ending up grabbing the loads and then brokering them out to carriers when we have direct access already. Not cool at all Amazon.
@Teron Larkins I’m in Ohio also and looking to partner with a local broker. I know the first 90 days I’m going to have to suck it up with Amazon Relay. But my goal is OTR
@@sheilajsmith why wait 90 days? Just a beginner question.
@@milovale55something about having a new authority, u need it to age a little
My Authority went active on tue 19th of July and so far I've been running otr witha few brokers...
So far so good I've been to TX,MI,NY,NJ,VA,OH,WV,FL,DE I believe one thing thats helped me out alot is my communication witn the broker and i take good pictures of me securing the loads in my truck then in rrturn sending tonthe broker so they know there customer merchandise is in GOOD hands shit sometimes I over secure the load..and im always on time to p/u's and dropoffs...hope that help anyone thats new like myself
Congrats on the journey. Good stuff!!
hey Unc quick question. Im in the process of purchasing my first box truck and going OTR. Im going to drive myself before getting a driver later on. Do you stay in hotels when your OTR? or do you sleep in your truck?
Congrats on your journey. I've done both, I prefer hotels just depends on what I have going on.
I was wondering the same thing.
I sleep in my truck most nights so I stay at truck stops with showers... I do stay in hotels on the weekends or if I'm somewhere exciting like
I have a bench passenger seat which makes it easier or more comfortable to sleep
@@ronallenamenra3445 I’m
I’m trying to look out for my driver as well. But I guess it’s just part of the grind to sleep in the truck !!
I’m looking for a hino or international box truck 26ft. Any information will be helpful.
Big Vic can you work 6 days a week with Amazon or will that interfere with hours of service ELD since you only working 4 to 5 hrs a night
You may be able to pull it off. If not just get another driver if you run out of hours of service.
Hello did you have to drive 200 miles deadhead to get your first 3 loads out of GA. I don’t see any loads out of ATL. for delivery? Thanks
No.... I'm not driving 200 miles of deadhead no where lol
Welcome to my world
Big Vic. Quick question. Does your truck have air ride or spring? I’m looking at 2 different trucks. A 2017 Hino 260hp, spring suspension. Also has toys inside cabin. Power/heated windows/door locks. Also looking at a international 220ph with air ride. No toys in cabin all manual. Both similar price and mileage around 200k. Which you think is better. Not sure how important air ride is.
Shoot for air-ride. Air-rides are essential nowadays and considered as upgrades on loadboards for some loads. Inside toys should be a/c, phone/tablet charging station/plugs, liftgate on/off switch, driver air- ride bucket seat with adjoining bench seat for passenger which allows you to lay across it in hard times.
@@repeataftermedia Ok thx.
Def go with Air ride. Some brokers and shippers request it for smoother freight rides. You'll appreciate the drive 100% better in an air ride unit. I have both, spring on one truck and air ride on the other. Love my air ride unit.
I’m considering doing regional. Not long distance, but I’ll be getting paid more than local. Kinda in between. You think 4K a week gross is reachable doing 4-5 loads a week?
It's possible but them 4-5 loads will need to be paying over $1000 each to reach that goal.
Vicc why don't all the box trucks in Midlands go together and bid for regular runs as contract vendor with Amazon. Everybody gets 100% of the money earned even though they are under another authority. HMU let's get a cup of coffee and talk.
Not a bad idea but good question.
Hey brother I'm looking to get a box truck and I'm located about 20 miles from Charlotte NC and wanted to know from your experience how good is that market far as Amazon Rely?
Do you let them load/unload with a forklift or hand truck.
I've done both. If it's too big no I don't.
Yo Vic. I talked with my insurance agent out here in Illinois and He told me if I activate my box truck insurance Monday and apply for my dot/mc I can run in a week the latest a week and a half. Is this possible?
Hell to the no lol... You have to wait a mandatory 21 days before authority can go active. That agent about to have you paying for insurance and can't move that truck. Wait until the last week of authority going active. I waited until the last 3 days before I paid for insurance.
@@BiggVic OK. Appreciate it.
Bigg Vicc what is the deal
Yeah that's where amazon is screwing us. They are definitely getting over by not factoring in labor. Each job should be $200 or better depending on the amount of stops.
Exactly!!!
Are you looking for a driver?
Hey bro I'm gonna set up a consultation. I've had my dot number since 19 last year with Amazon was definitely this year had be straight bs on and off all yr gonna holla at u bro to get some of your thoughts Channel-🔥though
Cool let's get it!! Looking forward.
When going over the road are you looking more for $ 2.00 a mile and up or the 15 day average ?
The farther you drive you will be around 1.40- 1.75 a mile. The shorter the distance the more likely you will get 2.00 a mile or more on average. Hope this helps!
I factor both when determining my rate.
@@Drell-py4pg Not always D. I live in MN, I am presently in Casterville GA, second time in GA in 2 weeks. I said I won't come back here but the rate was tempting . My first was 1147 for $2500 and this present one 1156miles for $2850 . I had to screenshot the rate con to a friend yesterday he was amazed . I can't cope with rates in GA. Last time I refused many back to TN, got a big bag back to Midwest. It all depends on your region and negotiation skills. Rates from MN starts from 1.7- 2.5 even for 1k miles and more, Even with Amazon if you in OH, NY , PA and especially Midwest , Beloit, IA, Rockford, IL, KS and MN , those are few states where Amazon is still fire, the rest are like just sustaining.
@@Drell-py4pg I asked 2 brokers , are you crazy.. he said thats the rates here ( In GA he meant) its saturated and people don't have choice. Midwest is different.
I actually live in GA. I agree
Are you dispatching yourself OTR? Any leads on good brokers or dispatchers? Thanks for sharing.
I do both. I use most of the brokers that can be factored with my factoring company. Usually from DAT and Truckstop load boards. Check out dispatchexperts.com
@@BiggVic thank you.
Hello Vic! I've been driving tankers for a company for 8 months. I'm very new to trucking and have been researching having my own truck and was wondering if the brokers will take a chance on me, or do I have to start with Amazon to get experience?
Certain brokers will let you haul freight for sure.
@@BiggVic hey which broker are best for new authorities?
Hi do you have the fix for the on time score
Shoot me an email biggvicmusic@gmail.com
Is it true that amzon is stopping amzon relay after December. I do Uber and pick some amzon company people from the airport and they say they stopping it after December.
I haven't heard anything of the sort. Time will tell but you never know.
As a carrier that does Amazon Relay…I can say that’s NOT TRUE!!! We would certainly get an email notifying us of what ever changes they make. 🤷🏽♀️
i'm about to start doing what you're doing vic
how do you sleep in the box truck?
if i can figure out how to comfortably get some rest in there imma go months at a time in there if i can
i've already decided i can sleep in the trailer when it's empty but if it's fully loaded or has a seal i can't
i'm 5'11" btw so maybe i'm not too tall to lay down in there
You should be able to make it work. I stretch out across the bench pretty comfortably.. But def prefer a bed lol.
Why would you ever when do otr in a box truck when you came just drive a tractor with a sleep way better
how many pallet jacks do i need?
Are dealing with a dispatcher or are on the load board?
Both
My pops side of the family from Berkeley county sc
So am I! That’s dope to see someone connected to the low country
Hey bro pls just need ur idea I have my class A Cdl will you advice me to do the box truck or the semi! ?thank you
Hey man, since you have your CDL I would stay in that lane. Box truck can be good but in my opinion you're already in the big league. You will make 3-5 grand more per week if you plan on owning your own truck!
New or used box truck?
I doubt if you'll find new right now but anything under 200k miles is quite close to new in my opinion. Of course with the maintenance history.
I'm here in Georgia need a broker to get me on the road. Anyone knows one??
Probably a big 🚛 company took a few of those loads
This guy isn't a big company at all and for sure has a bulk of the loads I use to see.
Why is ("T.Q.L") not paying drivers their money
Straight up but most of the problem is us we accept everything from them but if we negotiated and said no to these cheap rates then they would give us higher rates
Facts!!!
Why would you every do otr in a box truck a semi with a sleeper is way better better paying loads and better comfy I don’t understand why ppl do otr in box truck
Take a wild guess? But to answer you really quick .. there are some box truck owner operators making more otr than some semi drivers working for companies otr. Please don't get it twisted fam lol.
Over road is 30 times better
Dude when your talking cut the music in background.
At 6 months…u shouldnt be giving advice. You dont know yet. You think you do, but you dont.
Good luck to you sir
At six months I made 3 figures. Find a system that works for you!
@@gymshoe23 you didnt NET it! These numbers sound great to those who dont know. You will have good months and bad months. Dont think for a second things will always stay the same. You will learn a whole lot more “systems”
If your doing OTR in a box truck, you buggin. Do it for 3 years staight and holla back! ( Its not even legal)
