One of my favorite things to do when terraforming caves, especially those where dripstone is found, is to place water-logged stairs, slabs and walls in the floor. Most caves are formed by the action of water, and many live caves and mines continue to seep and drip, which leaves puddles everywhere. The water-logged blocks can go a long way to reinforcing the illusion of dampness without interfering with the movement of players through the environment. An abundance of overhead dripstone can also add to the atmosphere with their constant collective dripping. Just standing in the middle of dimly lit grotto, listening to the patter of dripping water, can be satisfyingly immersive.
I really enjoyed this episode. It was a nice change from the farm and redstone content of the last couple weeks and I thought the balance and pace and discussion was superb! I particularly enjoyed the music choice for the timelapse which really gave the episode a thematic and immersive vibe. 10/10
I’m liking the “game design” concept for the cave base. It seems, to me, the best builds tend toward that general idea. For instance, there’s no real reason to create “living spaces”….except for “immersion”, which is also a game design concept.
Prismarine being found in a copper mine also really fits in with that thing of how drowned spawn a lot in dripstone caves and can drop copper, really linking the area to water, almost like this is the kind of fantasy world where there are magical gems connected to different elements and the place to find the water powered ones is near dripstone as well as in the ocean! Maybe could even add in some lore about the reason why copper is the only metal to change colour over time is because it's connected to water somehow and almost wants to look like prismarine even though it's naturally orange?
@@bomerio2419 if last season was more building-focused then more farms this season is absolutely fair, besides I like knowing how to set up decent farms if I need them! but eventually he's gonna run out of farms to make, so I would love some more building episodes in-between.
During the time lapse, it looked like the endermen were trying to help you lol. Another thing you could do is a parrot in a cage- miners used to use birds in cages to help them detect CO2 and methane pockets.
I like the idea of, somewhere deep in the mines, having larger prismarine "geodes" with a sea lantern or conduit as a central light source. You could maybe transition inward from cobble/stone > copper ore > raw copper > prismarine, especially using glow lichen to smooth some of the transitions.
I really appreciate your videos, it keeps me updated with Minecraft' updates and really makes me realise how much possibilities you have in this amazing world. I love your spawn farm videos.
For the lever on the grindstone as a sort of pulley lever, you can substitute a lever with a lightning rod instead. You can place it either sideways or above the grindstone
That is the name of a person who used to be a mod in Pix's Twitch.Sadly they passed away due to COVID and so Pix writes their name as a tribute to them
To clear something up, we don't know the cause of Paranor's death. It happened in September 2020, but the details were kept private, known only to family and close friends. We knew he'd had chronic health issues from long before the pandemic, so COVID was not necessarily the cause.
I’m terrible at designing and decorating my builds and LOVE videos like this! You should do more of them in this series. Also, can we get an update on the storage building?
hi pix. i was wondering if you’d do more episodes with building/terraforming in it because i love your style and its nice to break up the constant learning of mechanics with something artistic like building
I'd like to do more stuff like this in future, but so much of my build style is improvised. I find it difficult to explain what I'm doing, because most of it is done by feel. It's much easier to explain farms, mechanics, and mob AI because they usually have reliable, predictable results. But they're also what gets us resources, so it makes sense if we build with those resources a little in upcoming episodes :)
@@Pixlriffs yes that would be great in future episodes ! but also maybe just assess what artistic elements you’re using in your build if you can’t really explain (like using the element line, composition, etc) because that feeling is your artistic skills without thinking consciously,, i hope that makes sense !!
Loving the mineshafts in the dripstone cave! My suggestion would be to try to go for some dimmer lighting to make it a little more atmospheric. See how dark/subtle you can make the lighting without having mobs spawn in your caves
another neat trick is have stone stairs below the saw that are water logged to make it appear like a wet saw, and to have some logs that are stripped in a stack as well. Also, having a scaffolding next to the saw with a lantern on top would be a practical detail because you'd want to see where you're putting your hands when it comes to saws. (saw you did that later in the vid, really nice touch :D) Dead coral, that one greyish block (made by combining granite and diorite that I don't remember the name of) and very sparse usage of gravel can work too. I love your usage of stone stairs and buttons for breaking up the flat areas btw. As for the ending section, lecterns with miners journals could reward exploration with hidden lore, maybe a pov of the miners thoughts on this mythical blue ore they've uncovered? Maybe it causing some sort of sickness turning the minors into drowned or undead? who knows~ 10/10, really really good video :] thx pixl
This sort of making beautiful every place that you spend time is something I really want to get better at -- just the little details like the lantern on the table, as if the guy "set it down to look better"... that's a sort of storytelling-in-minecraft that I really admire and want to try more of.
As far as these build stories go, there's always these hints of things having been, as you said, "in the middle of being processed", but..... what about why it was left, while in the middle of being processed? What caused the miners to abandon it mid-project?
Hey Pix! Just want to say that I very much enjoy your building style and the pace of your videos. I know this is a survival guide, but I want to suggest a building series in the future. I know I would watch every episode!
I think it's a little bit weird to leave bits of copper exposed anywhere except at the end of a branch. They clearly saw the ore there, while mining ore, why would they have left it there. Maybe cover it up except for just a corner showing through the side of a stairs? Or surround it with cobblestone or gravel, or something that looks like it would be more unstable, so they didn't mine it because they thought that direction would be unsafe to mine. That said, I like the way it's starting out!
Hey I just wanted to say that I really did enjoy the slow montage of dripstone mining. The music was chill and I like that it took it's time. It didn't just go by too quickly like most people do montages.
Hear me out. Giant Copper Golem but Prismarine as some kind of power source. The miners could come across a Giant Copper Golem that needs Prismarine to power it. Kinda like a heart.

Hello PixalRiffs, I been fellowing for quite but I never left comment on one of your videos before. I just want to say thank you for giving some great tips and inspiration for my own builds. But there something else you done for me witch I like to share. I suffer with anxiety and sometimes I get really bad panic attacks witch make certain things very difficult. Sometimes I just put one of your videos on with good Timelapse I set it on loop and I just disconnect from my problems and let music take hold and my problems fade away. Have you ever thought of doing a video of extended longer Timelapse because you have good skill at making one settle there problems. So thank you for doing great job and inspiring me.
i know a lot of great minecraft builders, but i have never seen someone who uses so much lore for their builds and i think its great! Also, i think the light level spawn chnges are really good, because now you can play so much with the atmosphere and lighting without having to fear mob spawns!

It also helps that I don't have to re-render the spectator footage afterwards. Meanwhile if I try to render stuff from Replay Mod in 4k it takes forever
29:30 I know you want that alcove to be hidden and non-obvious, but is it at least lit up (or slabbed) enough to not spawn mobs right next to your base (and slime farm)?
It's during episodes like this that I wish Pix would allow himself some aesthetic mods. Like Fairy Lights, for example, for strings of hanging lanterns. I know, it makes sense to stick to vanilla for various reasons. Some of those mods look so good though! 😄
This gives me a lot of ideas for my spider farm. For a long time it's been accessible through traveling through a mineshaft and I really wanted to design something with it like a hallway or tunnel. But the idea of having it be another cave is really neat and I should really try that out next.
Adding stone pressure plates in places you won't be walking adds a really nice small detail as well. Also, it would look really cool to use black concrete to make a branching tunnel look like its a void blocked off by a fence. Add a bit of mystery.
