  • Guys, the title of this video is no joke. If you are looking for the Holy Grail of Tandoori recipes, here it is :D
This recipe does not involve any store-bought Tandoori pastes or powders, and trust me, you won't want to use them after making this recipe. Here's my recipe for Garam Masala that you'll need for the marinade:
    • How to Make Garam Masala
Get ready to be transported to the best Tandoor Restaurant in India, because this recipe is really that good! :D
    Facebook Page: Vijaya Selvaraju
    Instagram: @vijayaselvaraju
    Twitter: @vijayaselvaraju
    INGREDIENTS
    4 Bone-In Chicken Breasts
    1/2 cup Plain Yogurt
    Juice of 1 Lime
1 tbsp, Vijaya's Garam Masala (See Video)
    4 Cloves Garlic, finely grated
1 inch of Ginger, finely grated
    1/2 tbsp, Dry Ginger Powder
    1/2 tbsp, Ground Red Chili
    1/2 tsp, Ground Nutmeg
1/2 tbsp, Crushed Methi (Fenugreek) Leaves
    1 tbsp, Salt
1/4 tsp, Powdered Red Food Colour (Optional)
To create marinade, add all ingredients except Chicken in a bowl, and stir until combined.
Make deep slashes in chicken and pour marinade over top. Gently massage the chicken and ensure all sides are coated.
Marinade in the fridge for up to 24 hours for the flavours to deepen.
Pop Chicken onto the grill, skin side down. Cook for approximately 15 minutes per side, or until juices run clear.
Alternatively, place in an oven that has been pre-heated to 450 degrees, and cook for approximately 30 minutes, or until firm to the touch and juices run clear.
Serve with Sweet White Onions, Lime, and hot Naan/Rice.

Really people! She shows you how to make a dish and all you could get from it was to pick on her accent? Chances are she was never born or brought up in India.. Just like my kids... Thanks Vijaya for this tutorial :) And to the rest of you, remember that patriotism has nothing to do with someone's accent... It has everything to do with values.

Yes, I am Iranian born and very white and have no accent. That does not mean we are less of that culture, just raised in a different place. I am often discounted as not being authentic ethnic but I was born there!! And Iranians love Indian food as well. I have made this and many other Indian dishes as well.

Negative comments on a very positive video are from negative people. You do not need anything other than love and appreciation for a food and culture. I was born in the UK and grew up with Indian and Pakistani friends and food from a young age. I have nothing but respect for the food and culture of both countries.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you Vijaya Selvaraju for this authentic Tandoori Chicken recipe. I have made this recipe of yours at least 5-6 times already and it's absolutely delicious and I honestly can say that it fulfills my Tandoori Chicken cravings without ever leaving my house. I did add the red food coloring option in mine as it just makes it look more like how the restaurants do it. I've also made your Garlic Naan and Aloo Gobi recipes as well and they both were totally on point and super delicious as well. Thanks again for sharing these fantastic recipes with us all. During these Covid times where we couldn't go out to any of our favorite Indian food restaurants, your recipes transported us to these restaurants without us ever leaving our house! Keep up the awesome videos coming as you are very articulate and have such a charming personality plus you're highly photogenic as well.

RUclips and Allrecipes have allowed many recipes for absolutely anything become possible! Making it yourself certainly is the beat option...my husband, for example, found this recipe for Kahlua (which is the simplest recipe - all you need is good coffee alcohol and vanilla bean) and made it for me because I love coffe liqueur and it tastes way better (so you wonder what they put in the Kahlua - not saying it's bad but it doesn't have the full taste of coffee).

Wow, this recipe is amazing and easy to make. I did, however, let 30-35 chicken legs marinate for at least 48 hours and cook with a gas grill along with mesquite wood and extra hot peppers. It took approximately 30-45 minutes to cook it with both cover open and off for checking. Now my wife loves me for it and we ate so much and still have a lot left. Thanks

You're the only person I've ever seen leave the skin on when making Tandoori chicken. I'm about to put mine on the grill in a few, but I did take the skin off yesterday before marinating it. I also made Gobi Aloo to go along with my chicken. I'm a middle aged bald pasty Irish guy, but Indian food is my absolute favorite.

Wow, this recipe is delicious! I used boneless, skinless chicken thighs, Greek yogurt, and store bought Garam Masala. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. The trick to grilling chicken is to grill it at a high heat. It took 6 minutes a side and had a nice "char". Had to go to an Indian market to buy the fenugreek leaves. Luckily it was nearby although I'm not sure how important that ingredient is? I think it would still be good without it. Thank you for the recipe!

I made it today, on my Webber go-anywhere grill, and to quote my wife, 'Mmmm that is lovely!" It made an excellent change of BBQ instead of Cheese Burger, Cheese Burger, Cheese Burger! Obviously, red food colouring is bad for you and I prefer either to use kashmiri chilli powder for the intense red colour (although it's nowhere near as intense as red food colouring powder!) or I leave it out. Its still a beautiful colour without it. That said, if you don't eat it often, then the colouring is OK. It's all about balance right?
Also, I just typed the word colour probably more times than I have in the last 3 years 😁

I'm trying out this recipe, I've eaten lots of tandoori but never made it, I'm gonna marinade it today for tomorrow's BBQ, 😊

Love the energy. I had to see this especially when you say that it is the holy grail of all Tandoori recipes. The marinade could do with a few more ingredients I think and no oil? This is a must try!

+Food Mantri Honestly, these ingredients were the perfect combo, I don't think anything else is needed :) Tastes just like the Tandoori I get when I visit India. I oiled the grill to prevent sticking, but you can add a couple of tablespoons to the marinade if you like :)

I’ve never understood background music for cooking videos. It always drowns out the speaker. And royalty-free loops are guaranteed to send the listen over the edge.

Hi Vijaya! I'm a new subscriber and i'm absolutely loving your channel! I recently had to start a gluten and dairy free diet and the thing i'm missing most is definitely tandoori chicken! What can I use as a dairy free substitute for the yogurt??

This is the best way to make tandoori chicken

Skip the spices and just look for British standard tandoori seasoning. It’s the best and by far. We still add fresh garlic with it.

Why didn't you just put the chicken into the marinade bowl? lol. This looks awesome; can't wait to try this!

I made your tandoori chicken and it came out grreeaatt !!! It's probably the best chicken i've had/grilled. I added two serrano peppers to the marinade to give it some kick 😜

great video. quick q: can you make this using skinless chicken as well or do you recommend using skin on chicken to get the blackened look and taste? thanks!
