  • The ketogenic way of eating is the easiest, most sustainable diet I've ever recommended as a family doctor. You can use it to reverse obesity, inflammation and other symptoms of chronic disease. It is easy to start, and easy to maintain.
You can get started by following these simple steps. Many feel better after only the first 3 steps. You will easily implement these 7 steps as you begin your health journey. Start with step 1 and work your way as quickly, or as slowly as you like towards step 7.
Your body and mind are built by what your eat. Feed your body the foods of strength, and your mind the foods of wisdom. Your ancestors knew of these foods, and you will rediscover them yourself. Don't hesitate, let's Keto.

After my daughter talked me into Keto by watching your RUclips video, I’ve gone from an A1C of 9.8 to 5.6 while stopping my 90 units of insulin a day. I’ve cut out fluid meds and cut blood pressure meds in half all while losing 46 lbs. this all happened in 60 days. Thank you Dr. Ken.

    • @rumbecker5085
      @rumbecker5085 5 лет назад +27

@dasein Just about everything you have said is 100% wrong based on uncontested facts.
Calories in/out does matter, but recent studies have shown that low carb people have a higher BMR by 200-450 calories.
You get knocked out of Ketosis because when you eat glucose Insulin goes up and glucagon goes down.
Keto will only break down muscle if you are not eating protein. Keto is not fasting, but if you do fast you will break down muscle
What supplement do you need to take on Keto? Low starch veggies, meat, and organ meat have everything one needs and more.
You can eat lots of low carb veggies, I eat over 7 servings of veggies of day and don't get kicked out
There are no peer- reviewed studies that show that the current food guidelines are healthy either.

    • @rumbecker5085
      @rumbecker5085 5 лет назад +24

@Kegeshook Staying in ketosis 24 hours a day is not necessary and after 5 months most people will be able to increase their net carbs. It's ok to cycle out of ketosis a few days a month as long as you are maintaining a relatively low carb diet.
I've been low carb/keto for 5 years, in ketosis 75% of the time.
In an average day I eat
      1 Avocado
      1 egg
      Cheese
6-7 servings of veggies(Eggplant, Broccoli, Avocado,Tomato, 4x servings Spinach, Garlic, Onion, Parsley, Beet greens, mushrooms)
Fatty meat (fish 3-4 times week)
      Liver (3-4 times a week)
Please let me know one vitamin or nutrient that I may be lacking or what is inadequate.
      From my calculations I get Vitamins, A, all the B's, C, D, E, K1,K2. I get more than enough NA,K,Mg,DHA,fibre.
If you follow a whole food Keto diet you will not need any supplements, don't buy things with a barcode on it.

@@dasein9980 please dig a little deeper, instead of just going off of a little bit of info that naysayers spread or those who aren't eating the healthy way spread. Also, it is important to be able to go in and out of ketosis with ease. I don't eat keto all of the time and go back into it quickly. I feel like crap on the days I carb up, compared to the days I eat low to no carbs. The only supplements I take are to fill in what is missing from our foods nowadays, including for gut health. Do some real research!

After much hullabaloo, the American heart association has endorsed the keto diet. Doctors get almost no nutritional education and their focus is to treat the sick, not get you well. I am a retired 41 year RN. If you are strict keto, I keep my carbs at 50 or below, and after feeling a bit funky during the first week or two, the body gets keto adapted and starts preferring fat to carbs. I am not diabetic but my fasting sugar ( I bought a. Glucometer) is 100 but goes down to 74 after a meal!!! This means my body is holding out, not using the sugar and waiting for fat. Yes, you can eat fat. In fact, I got rid of my fatty liver, proven by ultrasound.
My body used the fat in my liver for energy!!!!
If you look up fatty liver, it can lead to cancer and it says to eat healthy but I got rid of it in less than one year.
I had to go on 3 day fasts to achieve this, which is not that hard because keto adaptation drastically reduces your appetite. In the beginning you need fat bombs to eat when you are starving, and adapting and they are fatty snacks. Once you get adapted, appetite shrinks because carbs and sugar are addicting.
I make very sweet desserts, at home using erithrytol, monkfruit, allulose, stevia . Monkfruit and allulose are the best tasting. I just made caramel with allulose and cream because it even browns like sugar.
There are baking mixes like Carbquick and a lot of keto stuff online. You can eat fat, bacon fat, ect. I don’t like bacon after I got sick of eating it and prefer olive oil, avocado oil, although I eat more butter and cheese than ever. The fat get used for energy once you cut way down on carbs. Watch a ton of free videos on Utube and there are a lot on free keto recipes online. Dr. Barry is a fab resource as well as Dr. Berg who has a PHD in nutrition and goes into more scientific detail. Good Luck.

My fear was KETO would make cholesterol worse - but it actually came down under 200 as well. And I lost 22 pounds. Love your straight forward plain speak approach to healthy eating.

Step 1 was the most difficult for me. I saved back a jug of maple syrup and a small amount of honey during the pantry purge. I didn't eat them though, and when we moved a year later I finally threw them out. It was sad and I guess I mourned in a way. I feel better physically than I have in decades, mentally I'm still adapting to a life with no sugar.

Dr Berry. I celebrated my 54th BD yesterday and more importantly my 7th month of doing Keto! Your videos have been incredibly impactful. In 7 months I have lost 76 pounds, dropped my blood pressure, and I feel so much better. I introduced intermittent fasting as you’ve mentioned and that has helped to keep my progress steady over the last few months. Losing the wait made me feel so much better I began exercising once again. 7 months ago I couldn’t do 5 proper push ups. Last night, to celebrate, I did nearly 100 burpees. Thanks for your guidance and excellent videos. I’d post pictures of my progress if allowed just to help inspire other viewers to know that they can succeed at getting healthy following your KETO advice. Keep up the great work! Paul

Non of the doctors i have seen knows this.

Dr. Berry, I rarely write comments on RUclips videos, but I just had to, to express my appreciation! I had heard of keto for a while. I thought it was some type of extreme deprivation to lose weight and/or be healed of cancer, as I knew of two people personally, who was healed of cancer by eating keto, so I wasn't interested, since I wasn't facing a dire health crisis.
Lately, we had a wakeup call when my husband was hospitalized with UTI due to a severely enlarged prostate. You popped up on a search for "how to shrink the prostate." You said that keto and IF would shrink the prostate. So, I searched keto videos and listened to some on RUclips. I felt angry and rebellious, because I did NOT want to give up my rice and rice pasta!!
However, when I began to listen to YOUR teachings, you put it in such an attractive way that I got excited about doing it with my husband, because you talked about "hyperinsulinemia" which is what I saw that we have both been suffering from! You answered every question I had in my mind, as I continued to listen to you!! I had a nagging cough, itchy rash, more skin tags popping up recently, my toes had begun to start getting numb and tingly, I was tired all the time, and I had gained 15 lbs on my slim body, but all in my belly! My husband is also slim, with no belly, but was tired all the time and he LOVED sweets!! Although I had stopped eating sugar since 35 years ago (I was never a sweet-tooth baked goods person), and we'd been eating organic as much as we could find locally, I learned from you that we had been eating a carb-heavy diet, which leads to hyperinsulinemia!
Your video, "the Proper Human diet" was the clincher, (which I've shared on my FB page) that made me believe that keto is THE ONLY way to eat if I want to have any semblance of health! Being 70 now, I have to give my body its best chance at health by feeding it properly!!
We are about 10 days on keto and I have already noticed by day 3, the numbness in my toes going away!!! To date, the toes on my right foot are totally regenerated and the one big toe on my left is about 90%!!! What a fast turnaround!! By day 2, my lungs felt more clear, so that I wasn't coughing anymore!! I thank God that I found you, because you make keto seem easy and no big deal!! No mention of counting macros, net carbs, etc. All that other info was making my head swim!!
God bless you, DEAREST Dr. Berry!! May you continue to prosper in everything that you put your hands to!!

Hey Doc!, Started Keto February 2022 and was diagnosed T2D by my MD. I found your series and it supported me during my journey. I wasn't able to do finger sticks because of an aversion to needles. My A1C was 7.6 and got my lab results back today DOWN to 5.6. I cut out all sugar and nearly all carbs. I walk 2 to 5 miles a day at a good pace. I eat my ribeye and all the veg I like. I took Metformin for a week and that didn't work out for me. The MD OK'd that told him that I was following you and the Keto life style. I still don't stick my fingers. I was on Metropolol and got off that after telling my MD that it elevates blood sugar. He ok'd that and put me on Losartan next I'm looking at getting off the Amlodopine because of the edema side affect. I'm 65 and want to stick around for a while. Thanks for the info you put out on your channel!

My husband and I started the keto diet on March 1st of this month, and we both have already lost a good bit of weight. We are both really amazed at how good we feel. Both of us have had a hard time losing weight. I have hypothyroidism. Once I discovered I had this condition in my late 20's, I have struggled to lose any amount weight. As far as my husband, losing weight was even more difficult for him, and I don't know why. I really believe God has revealed this way of eating to us because it's His desire for us to take care of our bodies and to know how; we are His temple. I'm still a long way from being a pro at this, so I have some questions. Can we drink V8, and how do I track the nutrition from the vegetables I eat? Do I need to worry about the carbs in vegetables? Thanks for your video and your time. Have a blessed day.

One of the best and worst days of my life was when I found out how easy chocolate chip cookies were to make from scratch. I made the best cookies I have ever had, and everyone I gave them to said the same thing. *Sigh* I know better than to make them again, but I can't say I never think about them. They are like an old love that ripped your heart out and filled it with inflammation, and plaque deposits then handed it back to you.
      "Old Love" ----Eric Clapton
      I can feel your body
      When I'm lying in bed
      There's too much confusion
      Going around through my head
And it makes me so angry
To know that the flame still burns
      Why can't I get over?

      [Chorus:]
      Old love, leave me alone
      Old love, go on home
      I can see your face
But I know that it's not real
      It's just an illusion

Hello Dr. Berry! Really loving your videos!
I am in Ketosis, I have been doing Keto for about 2 months. I still have a few questions...
    1) I am IF. First I started 16/8 now I am 20/4 and I was thinking about doing OMAD. How ever when I test my ketone levels on a pee strip it shows pretty dark (high ketones) is that bad should it be less dark and is there a way I can control that? ( I am not diabetic) can I IF every day and be fine?
    2) is there any reason to do carb days?
    3) I have occasional period like cramps. I am 10 months post partum and have not started menstruating yet because I breastfed for 8 months. Should I be concerned about the cramps, constipation and peeing a lot?
    4) I had so much energy and my attitude was great and optimistic but now I feel a little drained. Is it something I am doing?
    5) last one... my macros are 1600 calories 20 carbs 142g fat 60g protein. So I hit these pretty good every day I usually only eat 8-15 net carbs a day. However I am concerned that I am eating too much fat and that's causing my body to use the fat I eat for enegery instead of the fat on my body. I am 125 lbs 5'3"
Thank you I have been trying Google but you get a bunch of BS

    Good information.
So much misinformation out there it's nice to hear such common sense.
Keto with Intermittent fasting is the healthiest lifestyle.
If it comes out of a box then just give it a toss, in the trash bin!

Been on keto for 13 months. Lost 50lbs in 6 months. Stopped tracking or counting at all but still eating keto. Never gained a pound in the next 7 months. Just goes to show that when you eat properly, your body regulates itself and you don't need to worry about 'calories in vs calories out'. Control your insulin, you control your weight. Bottom line.

Dr Berry, is sesame oil OK to have occasionally?

Sesame is a seed oil not a grain oil and as he said can be processed at home. I believe it is OK.
