You failed your task to defend Nova Prospekt from the attack of Anti-Citizen Freeman.
You will now be permanently off-world relocated .
You enter a Combine surgical room.
You don't know what awaits you...
When you wake up, you are in a place completely unknown to you.
you've never seen these structures before. The weather feels strange. Everything feels strange.
You are amazed to see all these huge Combine structures and flying creatures.
But you are terrified to learn that now your new task will be to move toxic waste in a chemical processing plant.
Your body doesn't seem to be the same.
It's not until you see in a reflection of a puddle of water left by the rain
a few minutes ago that you realize that your body has been completely modified,to the point that you don't know if there is any humanity left in you.
Being a Combine soldier you could still make decisions, you still had something to fight for.

The benefits of being a combine were to survive in the best way possible.
But now you will have to survive in the worst possible way. You are the
closest thing to a stalker you saw on the trains going to the citadel.
But even that doesn't compare to what you are now. You are a mass of flesh with implants that is destined to collect toxic waste for the rest of your existence.
Apparently free will is also non-existent now, you just follow the orders given to you by the implants.

You would have wished to have died in the defense of Nova Prospekt with your comrades, but now you are in an industrial zone on a planet far away from earth.
Your colleagues rumored that if you failed the Nova Prospekt mission, you would be sent to the Combine Overworld, which is the center of operations for the entire empire.
Now you know that humanity is probably doomed and doesn't stand a chance against such an advanced civilization.
You can only wait for your death, which will end with the agony of repeating the same task over and over again.
Dystopian, I like it :)

The combine are probably some of the best cosmic and body horror out there.
They're impossible to truly categorize with Man's concepts, being something beyond them.
They are best described as an all-consuming force, but that doesn't do it justice. Look at what they did with human technology. Reverse engineered, adapted with their own. Handheld firearms, cars, trains, helicopters. Whether or not these are temporary accomodations or permanent additions is unknown, but Man has been digested technologically. Look how they make their soldiers, tearing out imprints, mixing and matching memories to create the ideal human mind for their purposes, reading and overwriting like the mind is just a file. Mankind is being digested mentally. Look how they make their synths. Originally they were unaltered lifeforms, picked for their usefulness. Slowly, like humans, they were modified. Soon all the systems were shown to work and the original species discarded, replaced by the biomechanical synth taking its place, a haunting shadow of something else. Man is undergoing this process, and soon human as a concept shall be broken down and incorporated into the monolith that is the Combine. Uncountable cells, each their own intelligence, making up the terrifying whole. The combine do not adapt, they simply take designs devised by evolution or conscious minds and remix and match until a useful machine or synth has been designed. Each synth is the product of a line of potentially automated engineer-like machines or beings remixing designs from older designs made long ago, repurposing and modifying but never truly innovating. This is all we really know. Man is nothing to these beings, we've only managed to delay our integration. The combine are the ultimate cosmic horror villain.
I doubt we'll ever see this place in-game but it's interesting to think about a place so incomprehensible that valve refuses to even try stepping into it, I understand why, but it would still be incredible to see it as like a modern Xen section.
In epistle 3 is mencioned ,so is posible that we coud se that in hl3 (welp if we live enought to play hl3 in first place lmao XD) But i think is a really dificult task to make a good gameplay and storyteling in Combine Overworld. Is supposed to be the center of all of combine empire, so the enemies that we saw on hl2 are nothing compared to that we might encounter on that place.
Honestly I hope we never go there. Maybe get some flashes of that place or some more flavor to it, but never a level there. That would make it way too relatable and tangible, which breaks the illusion of being this unreachable and impossibly advanced place.
It feels like a twisted version of stepping into Xen for the first time. Xen, despite how evil we saw the vortigaunts and their cohorts get, still had and acted on some morality that we saw in HL2. There was still life in Xen, too. Teeming with it, actually. So much so that even the industrial environments there still felt organic, like an organism to contrast the mechanical nature we would expect from a factory.
This is the opposite. Where there was Xen's lively colors, flora and fauna, pools of water that healed you, and teeming nests of headcrabs, the overworld replaces them with sickly factory walls, turning blue and black machines, pools of waste and chemical solutions, and cramped, painful shells stuffed with headcrabs. And in contrast to the wise Vortigaunts in tune with life around them, the Combine's synths are mechanical and cold, who would've been redeemable if their engineers hadn't gone out of their way to erase redeemability from their mind.
And Gordon is absolutely horrified.

it gonna be a creepier version of xen, all of horrors that were made by the combine empire ( hl2 and hl alyx ) are just nothing compared to what they did in other places, in other worlds

I love it! It feels very eerie. And the last 10 seconds are quite stressful! All the ambient just suddenly stops, and you still hear these metal things making noise every second.
the reason there's no half-life 3 yet is because it's not meant for human eyes

breen says sometghing interesting in last chapter of hl2 , there are other planets or dimensions are incomprehensible for humans , a lot of cosmic horror if we se that in hl3

Thank you. I've already started making a post-apocalyptic audiobook called Prospero , inspired by Fallout , Unreal , and of course Half Life 2 beta. The plan is to someday make a source mod based on the audiobook. From time to time I will make new songs like this one from half life 2 as they go a lot with the concept of the audiobook.

I don’t care what people say, I’m hoping that in a future game Gordon will go in the Overworld, take down the heads of state, and put an end to the empire once and for all.

Easy, Gordon is built different. As we all know, the right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
Just because he was the right man in the wrong place that makes all the difference in the world doesn't mean he can destroy the combine especially the fact that he was assisted by his allies, the resistance and the G-man which was the reason why he can beat the Combine's garrison force left on Earth and oh Gordon also got overpowered by Combine Advisors twice if you still think Gordon Freeman can beat the entire Combine as a whole and if we are counting Epistle 3 canon Gordon would be giving up trying to destroy the Combine and lastly if he is this powerful enough to end the Combine once and for all why would the resistance even destroy the superportal and Eli Vance saying that we won't last 7 minutes for? They could have just sent Gordon straight the superportal go into the Overworld and end the Combine without needing the Magnusson's rocket to destroy it.

Ver algo así en Half-Life seria fenomenal, podría llegar a ser como los niveles de Xen pero llevados al próximo nivel (aparte, algo así le añadiría a la saga este toque de horror espacial muy lindo)
seria como la primera vez que vimos xen ,pero a la enesima potencia, ver otras especies esclavizadas, o siendo transformadas como los aliens grunts en las fabricas de xen. tiene un potencial infinito el combine overworld

Cuando despiertas estas en un lugar completamente desconocido para ti,jamás
habias visto esas estructuras. El clima se siente raro. Todo se siente raro.
Te asombras al ver todas esas estructuras combine inmensas y criaturas volando.
Pero te aterra saber que ahora tu nueva tarea sera trasladar desechos toxicos en
una planta de procesamiento químico.
Tu cuerpo no parece ser el mismo.
No es hasta que vees en un reflejo de un charco de agua que dejo la lluvia de
hace unos minutos que te das cuenta que han modificado completamente
tu cuerpo, al punto que no sabes si queda algo de humanidad en ti.
Al ser un soldado combine todavia podias tomar decisiones,aun tenias algo por
lo que luchar, los beneficios de ser combine eran para poder sobrevivir de la mejor
manera.
Pero ahora tendras que sobrevivir de la peor manera posible. Eres lo mas
cercano a un stalker que veias en los trenes que iban a la ciudadela.
Pero ni siquiera eso se compara a lo que eres ahora. Eres una masa de carne con
muchos implantes que esta destinada a recoger desechos
tóxicos por el resto de tu existencia.
Al parecer el libre albedrio también es inexistente ahora, solo sigues
las ordenes que te dan los implantes.
Hubieras deseado haber muerto en la defensa de Nova Prospekt junto a tus
compañeros, pero ahora estas en un zona industrial en un planeta lejano a la tierra.
Tus antiguos colegas rumoreaban que si fallabas en la mision de Nova Prospekt te enviarian
al combine overworld, que es el centro de operaciones de todo el imperio.
Ahora sabes que la humanidad probablemente este condenada y no tenga oportunidad
ante una civilizacion tan avanzada.

I like to imagine the Combine Overworld is a desert type planet thats had it's resources ripped from just like Earth. The planet has a diverse population, consisting of several different alien species, but its entirely dystopian. Theres little freedom, tons of cruelty, and the combine abused every citizen living in the planet
