They are both gone now, difficult to lose such remarkable talents. Nancy was such a beautiful person, through and through; she lived to age 81 and was one of my very favorite singers for as long as I can remember. The above honor to her was richly deserved, RIP, Nancy (12-13-18) we will never forget you.

Nancy knew how to tell a story with the song she sang, she made you feel like you were right there in the song, feeling those emotions, sad or happy, raw or soothing, she could do it all. Tremendous talent and a very nice lady, we will NEVER forget her, she has been about my favorite female vocalist for a very long time. We're so grateful we have her recordings which will live in our hearts forever. RIP, Nancy, thank you for what you gave us for so many, many years -- rest well and sleep warm!

her generation...her era...that crop of legends that opened doors for Whitney, are but a handful now, if that. And the thing that makes me the saddest, is that their shoes cant be filled because they just dont make 'em like her or Sarah or Ella or Aretha..or a Nina Simone, anymore. Now, you just have a lot of decent singers. But the thing that set apart, those ladies that I mentioned, is how versatile they were. They could sing ANYTHING. So, they're gone..and you wont get better singers than those ladies, Whitney included. Its sad, man. Thank God, for RUclips.

Wilsons influence on Houston is evident, its such a pity that Whitney was made a slave to peforming vocal acrobatics, instead of being allowed to take her maginificent voice to other (less profitable) genres that Wilson took her voice to. I have always preferred Whitneys lower register to the vocal gymnastics which became her signature; and I waited in vain for Whitney to sing The Blues, Jazz, & Gospel old skool.

Wow, I always thought that in her 40's Whitney should have done a standards album, the Beatles songbook, Gershwin songbook, a la Ella Fitzgerald style... to hear Whitney cover the classics. I know there was that Mad TV parody of "Whitney screws up the classics", but boy if Whitney was still with us.. She could have also comeback like Barbra Streisand with the a Broadway album. I hope Mariah Carey takes note. Life isn't forever and her Voice is an incredible Gift. She should do a standards and classic album too. Fortunately, Mariah Carey has covered a few other artist's songs ("I Want to Know What Love is", "Endless Love", "Against All Odds", "I'll be There", "I Still Believe", etc ) and has found success, but we need an entire album.

itgetseasierlessitry I completely agree. Whitney had such a beautiful timbre and tone to her voice that sometimes got lost in her vocal 'gymnastics'. She did cover some American jazz and pop classics. She also performed some Broadway (which she reportedly loved) songs. But I always wished she had made one entire album devoted to each musical genre. I also wish she had taken better care of herself and her instrument.
