I was 17 in 1965. No one in my high school even knew about Nancy Wilson. I was captivated with her and the song, “You Can Have him I don’t want him, “ He’s not the man for me.” Powerful ideas for a young women. I don’t get the rhythm of jazz but back then it was the melody of a story in song. In college I found other admirers of her music.. thank you Nancy you are beautiful to me.
Ms.Nancy Wilson "Class Personified" she has and will 4 ever B 4 me my all time FAVORITE, I was Blessed with the Privilege of seeing her a few times B 4 her Heavenly Body, Mind, and Soul left us but her Spirit lives on. Had the Privilege of kissing her hand and getting her Autograph which yes I still have N my safe deposit box. Miss Mom and Nancy may they both "Rest N Power" ❤💗💝💖❤ with love sincerely..!! Nuff Said, Peace and Love Abdul
I sent a letter to the President in 2012 requesting that this lady- my favorite song stylist be acknowledged with receipt of a Kennedy Honor. I am disappointed that did not happen. There is just something so special about Nancy Wilson. I have loved her music from the time I used to sing along to my Dad's records and I then started to collect as much of her music as I could get my hands on. As Nancy used to sing in a song lyric "There will never be another you" Nancy. We will miss you.
My uncle Rusty Bryant gave Ms Wilson her start back in the day. She and my mother sang with his orchestra a lot before his career got started. My mother was Barbara McCarroll. He once told the story of Ms Wilson wanting to go with his band to California, but there wasn’t any room in the van with all of the equipment. She was upset. About half way through the trip they kept hearing noises in the back of the van. He pulled over to see what it was and discovered that Nancy had hid behind the drums. So they had to take her with them. The rest is history.
What an incredible story...if your Uncle Rusty is still with us, it would be wonderful if he could put pen to paper and get this story and I'm sure many others out to the countless fans she still has. I'm sure your talented mom is singing the greats with Nancy. If your Uncle Rusty is up there with them, I'm sure he's making sure they have the best accompaniment in heaven, and they would all want you to share their stories with all of us.
@@cynthiagoldstein1133 Thank you a lot. I appreciate that. My uncle Rusty told that story to a crowd at the Lincoln theater in Columbus Ohio. We were playing at a tribute we put together for him a few months before he passed. Ms Wilson reached out to his sister, my grandmother after he passed to express her condolences. I wanted to hear Ms Wilson’s version of the story but didn’t get the opportunity before she passed some years later. It would have been nice to hear either one of them recounting the story on tape. His music is everywhere but we have no actual footage of him. I’d love to find anything on video of him. But again, thank you for your kind words
@@MindField65 You are so welcome - I thank YOU for sharing all of this! Perhaps there is another member of his band that is still with us? It's people like you who make sure that legends not only of music, but legends in our hearts, live forever. A total class act . Not full of herself , very humble and loves to sing to express in her own way unlike any other . There’s a Nancy Wilson sound and it’s the way she phrases her lyrics that stay in your heart and mind . She did it her way and thankfully for all of us she shared it with us .
I was walking by Cavages Records in Buffalo back in 62 or so and my eye caught that FACE for the first time. Then I went in and listened to that VOICE-the whole album. I was crazy in love with Nancy!
It hit me like a ton of bricks fell on my head when I read the news. It was like a close loved one slipped away without saying goodbye. I tried to cry, but my eyes would only moisten. All day I kept thinking about her and the first time I heard her record in the summer of 1963. I was in my very early teens. I never desired to be a singer but her classy poise was a great impact on me. I wonder if she had any idea how many of us young ladies she was a mentor to.

The Black community. Plain & simple. It's the same reason why within the Black community, Tina Turner & Whitney Houston weren't as celebrated as they should've been. If it wasn't for their White & Asian fan bases...they would've been screwed. Michael Jackson as well, especially after his Off the Wall album. Black people didn't support his Pop career in droves. Deniece Williams was canceled by the Black community after doing the lead song on the 'Footloose' soundtrack (Let's Hear It For The Boy). They felt like she abandoned her R&B fans to go Pop. That was the only Pop song she did. Whitney did more R&B songs the older she got. She definitely received no love from Black folks during the height of her career (Pop music).
I started listening to Nancy Wilson as a 9 year old impressionable girl. Her voice was the sweetest sound my ears ever heard. I admired her for years and one day I was finally blessed with the opportunity to meet her and become her friend. She was so down to earth and so humble. Her speaking voice was like hearing a symphony. I miss my friend so much, but listen to her exquisite angelic voice every day. I love you, Susie Q and I pray you rest comfortably until we meet again. ❤
"I'm a storyteller. I believe in a song with a lyric. I want you to feel something. I want it to touch your heart. I want it to get right into the marrow, you know, and I want you to understand the meaning of what I'm saying. I want you to get it; I don't want you to ignore it."
Now she has always been classy and she will remain timeless. I had the pleasure of speaking to her on the phone for nothing more than to compliment her on making 'If I Could' and letting her know I dedicated that to my children and she was just as she is in this interview- softo spoken and candid.
I had a crush on the Ms. Nancy Wilson when I was very young. I saw an album cover with her music on it. I was hooked. This lady had one of the Jazziest voices I ever heard. she will be missed.

"Black Is Beautiful" is one of my absolute favorite Nancy Wilson songs and now I understand why! It came from a personal place of deep meaning! i would love to hear it in its entirety! I didn't know that Charles Osgood wrote the lyrics!
The beautiful Story Teller. She loved her family so much. Pray for them and those she touched throughout her years. The Lord has called you back now to live forever with Him. Peace, you beautiful soul. Now go sing His praises to the angels. They will like your heavenly story. We sure will miss you here on earth though. :-(

She wasn't just black, she was just GREAT !!!!!!! She could have been any color...any nationality... May she rest in peace.
So sweet and incredibly sassy, Nancy Wilson walked the bridges between the soul and its many connections. To have heard her sing to us remembers a walk among the passions and humanity of everyday life, in very good company.
That was about 18 years ago, that interview, and she had about 5 more years to go before she retired. (She had a long career, about 55-year career, and gave us some very memorable music.) What a beautiful lady she was, she remained natural the whole way, didn't color her hair, didn't get fat, remained very gracious to all with whom she worked; she was just a good example and a fabulous artist whom so many could look up to, and did! Now she's left us all behind as of 12-13-18) so RIP, Nancy, and sleep warm! We will miss you!
