As a Porsche aficionado from the days of the '55 Speedster, and having driven almost 10,000 miles in my 2013 Carrera S equipped with the PDK (only my second automatic transmission in 20 cars), I can honestly say that I'm perfectly content NOT having the clutch and manual stick. Never thought I'd say that. I once even special ordered a station wagon just to get the manual since station wagons shipped to California are normally equipped with automatic. Though I went through mild withdrawal not having a stick, I soon realized that I could not possibly shift in 1/10 of a millisecond while keeping my foot off the accelerator with a manual. And I feel totally engaged with the car and the road. The 991 model is the most extraordinary daily driver I have owned. I can have as much fun at 35 mph on a windy mountain road as I can at 135 on a straight empty highway in Nevada. You do a great job with your reviews, Guido! I cannot pinpoint why exactly your presentations are appealing, but they are honest, candid, and clear. Thanks.SG
Hey Steve ! Thanks for your great comment and sharing your experiences with me...I totally understand your choice and over time I've started to love the PDK more and more. The first generation of it used in the 997 wasn't that brilliant for me, felt too much like a traditional automatic, but this second generation here is fabulous ! I think I'd have a hard time choosing PDK or manual....I think most people will go for the PDK and they are making a good choice, just like you. It is the best automatic transmission out there, hands down. Greetings and sorry for the late reply. Your comment got marked as spam by RUclips, so I didn't see it :) Greetings, Guido
I like how you give a synopsis of the vehicle (stats) at the beginning of the video,. I also like how you put effort into your videos, of when it seems others ride on the laurels of there success. ie. You talk in the first person, with how the car and its options affect the person. You make me understand why I would, or would not want the car.. I also am impressed at the effort you put into answering the 100s of questions of your followers. I hope you continued success in the future. Thanks for putting the coin out to bring us this video.
Thanks ! The feedback for this video was stunning and became the main reason why Porsche is taking my work as a RUclipsr more serious. I ended up getting the Carrera 4 that I talked about in this video...So I can't thank people enough for their feedback. I do this because I love cars and sharing this passion with fellow enthusiasts...I'm happy to hear you enjoy my videos so much, Raymond ! Greetings, Guido
Hello Robert ! Thanks for your comment ! I have quite a few 997 owners upon my subscribers and I love getting insights from them about their ownership and what they experience with the car longterm. Glad you like my review ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Great review! you have lots of detail and information that you present in a really easy to understand yet honest manner! Also I love the little "real life user" comments that you make. Keep it up....I hope porsche give you the carrera 4 manual to drive.....:-)
Thanks for checking them out ! Most of my viewers and subscribers actually come from the states, which makes me very proud. Greetings from germanym, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Commenting all the way from Kuwait, i would just like to say that your reviews are the most informative i've seen and cover all aspects of the car. Great job and please keep up the good work
Thanks ! I've been filming english reviews since 2010 and in the beginning it was a real struggle. I only watch english and american car-shows myself, so it is kind of natural for me. I'm really happy that there are so many people that can live with my Schwarzenegger-accent :) Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Your unique perspective is always welcome. It comes through that you want to give folks some good info on cars. Please continue to review high end cars with plenty of visuals.
South Australia. Loving your reviews so far and had to subscribe. You mention really interesting things which may impact other people depending on their preference or location. This is great to see in a review and refreshing from most critics. Also don't worry, statistics ARE important and should always be included. Great work mate.
I bought a 991.1 s 2014 this year 2022 for me it’s the perfect 911, being one of the last years of that naturally aspirated motor was something I really wanted. It’s all about the sound sports exhaust makes this car sound like dream!
Thanks ! Always great to read comments from Porsche-owners. I haven't driven the manual yet, but I agree with you on the PDK: This 2nd generation is sensational ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Excellent review as always fella, just about to buy a 997 Carrera 2S, really excited and can't wait. Good to know you still hold it in high regard. Looking forward to your next review.
I check out all your reviews after you nailing the Boxster review. You take the words right out of my mouth when reviewing Porsches. I spent 2 days in Alabama with 981 & 991. Feel exactly what you state. I would like to drive the 991 4s manual. Thanks for the great reviews and look forward to your take next year on the 991 awd and new Cayman. Come on Porsche AG give the Getawayer the cars to give a proper review!
Another excellent review Guido! Great editing and filming. I'm sad to hear that this will be your last review of the year! I love the way the 991 looks, but I haven't driven one yet, so I can't comment on how it drives. But I do know that although I'm not a huge 911 fan, the 997 Turbo S was really good fun when I drove it. Hopefully Porsche gives you cars to test in the future so you can sample more of the 911 range!
That's great to hear, Thomas ! Thanks for your feedback and I hope you will enjoy your 911 for a long time. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much ! I'm always happy when Porsche owner give me their feedback and I'm glad you did. The Boxster is a great car and I would never say anything bad about it. I hope my verdict did both cars justice :) Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Great review, Guido! You really give the shiny pro-productions of the high dollar magazines a hard competition. Not to mention the wannabe-bloggers. Can't wait for the next season! Thank you!
Greetings from Austin, Texas, another great review! I recently decided to trade my 987 Boxster RS60 for a manual 2012 997 GTS, after carefully researching and driving the 991 and 981. I couldn't be happier with my choice. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of them, but for me the 997 GTS is the best value and a future classic. Keep the reviews coming.
That's really great to hear and I appreciate your feedback for the review very much. I hope you will enjoy your new car ! That's a really nice list of previous cars that you owned ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Great review. Stumbled upon your channel after your awesome and down to earth review of the Boxster S and now subscribed. I love that you are so honest about the cars you test and focus on the driving experience and how a car makes you feel rather than trying to sell it. :) I hope Porsche gets you a 911 4/4S with a manual box. You say you are a huge 911 fan but I think the new Cayman S will give you the precision and nimbleness of the Boxster S and performance close to 911. It's light and small.
Thanks for your feedback, David ! It is very much appreciated. I am not a professional journalist and I guess that's the reason why I sometimes end up focusing other things than people working for magazines. It's interesting and great to hear that there are quite a few people who like this about my reviews and even owners of cars that agree with my opinions. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much for the kind words and the feedback ! You are right: The new Cayman is very interesting. I personally have to say that it doesn't look as good as the 987 Cayman, but maybe my opinion changes once I see it in person. Hopefully Porsche will let me test more cars next year. I'm working on it :) Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks for your comment ! It's nice to read that you agree with me. I would love to test the new Cayman next year. As with the C4 its up to Porsche to give me that chance. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks buddy ! It's not perfect, but considering weather and the fact that I only had two days to really film it ( the rest of the time it was raining ), I'm pleased with the outcome. Greetings to you buddy !
Thank you so much, JR ! I'm happy you enjoyed it and I will try my best to convince Porsche to get a car with the 7 speed manual next year. Take care, Guido
Reviewing is not an easy job.. thank you for your total honesty, If I could add another Porsche to my garage I would seriously consider a 991 S PDK with sport design wheel and paddles. Thanks again Guido!
Wow...that sound, that must be so addictive!! I think I speak for everyone when I have to thank your effort to rent a car for our enjoyment (well, you're the one who gets all the fun) and knowledge about facts from the cars. I hope you get the chance to drive the new Turbo, that car really must be something else, although the electric steering wheel scares me a bit. What's a Porsche without driving feel? I hope they hear they're costumers and improve that steering. Nice review and thanks a lot.
You're welcome ! No, you lose traction on bumpy roads when the car is set-up too stiff as in Sport Plus. Same problem in the wet. The rear would jump more and could even trample around. So you better use the soft set-up. The PSE has polished stainless steel exhaust pipes.Sounds really nice, especially on the downshifts. Glad you enjoy my videos ! Greetings from germany
Repekt !!!
I've driven both PDK and manual. I ordered a 991 w/ PDK because I can't possibly shift as fast with the manual as with the PDK ...... and I've only had manual in all my cars, both high performance and station wagons. I am very impressed with this car's engineering. When in my 20's I had a 1955 Porsche Speedster which was bare bones, light, and had nothing but an AM radio that didn't work. I was a purist, but no longer. I love the 991S. Incredible performance.
Thanks Mike ! I just watched the videos you posted and I'm very happy to see you having a good time in your Boxster S. The car looks awesome with those black wheels and the yellow paint ! I am in contact with Porsche to get another car. Fingers crossed :) I think Porsche geeks like us will know that the Chrono Package is an option. That's why I just said Sport Plus mode, but if I can review such a car, I will inform people the right way about it. Greetings from germany and enjoy your new car!
I love your reviews mate. I remember when i saw your first review. It wasnt so good. But the new ones are so much better. Viele Gruesse aus Griechenland. Michael!
Thank you very much for your comment, Steve ! It's always great to hear what actual Porsche owners think. I persoanlly wasn't a fan of the PDK in the 997, but this 2nd generation is really without any downsides. That said I am a bit of a purist and I just love driving manuals, doing heel and toe, just being in charge of shifting. I hope to experience the 7 speed manual later this year to give you my verdict. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Great review as usual. Awesome car, good videos and great sound. And I like earing the German accent too. That sounds a bit funny as it must also be for others earing French people speaking English ;-) You do a great job. Keep the steering this way !
Thank you so much for your feedback, Sean ! I really enjoy reading comments from Porsche owners and I'm very happy when you can agree with most of my statements. The 997 GTS is one of my favourites and I will do my best to make more Porsche related videos ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
I bought with factory pre-installed options of the new 2013 Porsche S PDK because of this video: test drive and review. I am a real 911-fan. Thanks to you and I have a brand new car that I truly loved. Thank you Getawayer for all your reviews and opinions. (Even my wife ask me to sleep in that car Porsche S PDK and I would not mind it at all, HaHa.) Thomas Y.
Thanks, I'm so glad people like you understand my point and like the review. The 991 is a sensational car, but I personally just love more puristic car. Something like a GT3 or just a simple car without extras and a manual...The look has grown on me now and I tried to be as sensitive about it as I could. I just miss those 997 hips, that's all...I will upload a video of a Carrera 4 later this week, just a few exterior shots and infos, but that car is wider and looks a bit better for me. Greets
awesome. how could i have missed it? had a little street race yesterday with a 993 carrera 4.. cant imagine how bad it would have been for me if that would have been a 991 hehe. must be an awesome car. thanks for reviewing it and sharing your thoughts with us. definitely looking forward to your cayman review as well ;)
Thank you for a really interesting review. I hope you get to compare the manual soon in the New Year. I have seen several reviews now and I like the way you describe the experience.
You're welcome ! In general I can't say anything bad about this second generation of the PDK. It's fast, responsive and economical thanks to the coasting function. The thing for me is that eventhough it is the best automatic transmisson that I know, i never get out of PDK Porsche with the same satisfaction like I get it from driving a manual car. For a daily driver the PDK is the better choice for the majority of drivers, but for purists like me, the manual is the one to go for. Greetings, Guido
Keep up the good reviews! Come one Porsche, give the man test vehicles!! If you lived around me, I'd let you take my 981 Cayman S for a review...can't wait to see you review it.
Thank you very much ! I'm glad you liked the video. A viewer even send me a picture to my fb-page of his new 991. It was white too ! Always great to meet other Porsche-fans ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks Chris ! A few people bought 997s based on my older reviews. I love the 997, but the 991 is a great car too. I really need to drive the manual version. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks Ryan ! I will be testing the new Cayman S later this summer and I also drove a 991 C4 Manual this March. Comments like yours from real Porsche owners and fans help me alot. So thank you again and I hope you stay subscribed so that you won't miss my review of the 981c. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks ! Your feedback means alot to me. I guess all real 911-fans need a bit of time to like a new design and it has really grown on me now. The new roof is excellent, almost like a hardtop, but I'm sure you are a Porsche-fan and know all about it :) Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks Farshad ! Well, I drove both cars in extreme winter weather and this C2 S here was on summer tires (!). Because the engine sits over the rear-axle all 911 have amazing traction, so there is nothing to worry about as long as you have good tires on them. I'd say you don't really need all-wheel drive, but it gives you more confidence to really use the car everyday. However my main reason to prefer the C4 is the look with the wider rear-wheelarches and the taillightstripe. Greetings, Guido
Thanks for a great review. The thing that always brings smile to my face is that brutal backfire noise when you lift gas or shift down =) and i also cant decide which is better 911, this or 997... starting to like the looks of 991 more, except panamera console.
Thanks, I appreciate your feedback ! Well, the 991 PDK feels faster and more responsive in the manual mode. It never goes back into automatic-mode, unless you put it in. And of course the new coasting-function is very clever for fuel saving. I can only call it the best dual clutch transmisson, because it is imo...The 997 has a hydraulic steering and it just delivers more feedl for the road. That's the main reason for me and others to say it feels more mechanical. Greetings,Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks ! The rev-matching is a new feature that has been introduced alongside with the new 991 Carrrera 4. I'm hoping to test it later this year, but there are already a few clips on youtube where you can see this feature in action. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Yeah, that's why I mentioned, but the rest did really grow on me and I like it now. I am in contact with Porsche to get a car next year and since my Boxster 981 went really well, I hope I can get my hands on more of their cars. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
I feel the same way. I was hard core on the stick option until owning a pdk Macan. I have now purchased a 911 with the pdk as well. Amazing!

Great video and reviewing style! Renting the car with your own money to review it shows dedication
best review of the 991 i've seen on here. great freaking job and you spent your own money to rent this car.
I love your entire series of reviews (especially on Porsches). Please keep up the great work!

Your reviews feels very REAL. Thanks so much and keep up with this awesome work! Greetings from italy

I have watched many, many reviews on the new 991 and had never heard that the manual has the rev matching! Great work!!

Feiner Sound - feines Autos - sehr feiner Review
great review, the sound it makes on the downshifts is just epic
Excellent review as always fella, just about to buy a 997 Carrera 2S, really excited and can't wait. Good to know you still hold it in high regard. Looking forward to your next review.
Just discovered your reviews and I love them - excellent to get a German buyer's perspective here in the states.
991 Cabrio in black + red top + Carrera red interior + Carrera Classic wheels + optional sports-exhaust = WIN! Great review BTW!
I check out all your reviews after you nailing the Boxster review. You take the words right out of my mouth when reviewing Porsches. I spent 2 days in Alabama with 981 & 991. I love the way the 991 looks, but I haven't driven one yet, so I can't comment on how it drives. But I do know that although I'm not a huge 911 fan, the 997 Turbo S was really good fun when I drove it. That's great to hear, Thomas ! Thanks for your feedback and I hope you will enjoy your 911 for a long time. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Watched it from start to finish again. Still find it as informative and authentically clued-in.
Great review! I got my 991S with PDK because I love the response in sport and sport plus. Can't beat it.
Fantastic review, I like watching your reviews as much as Chris Harris'! Keep em coming mate, well done!
Thank you very much, Kenny ! Your feedback means alot !

Great review and a what a great car, im still loving your reviews! Just keep up the good work!
Cheers from the ol USA
Porsche should hire you. Your videos are amazing!
hbhandal454 Thanks ! At least they now give me testcars so I can film more reviews for the channel ;)
+TheGetawayer Did you mention in the vid that this has a turbo?
+MemoryLaneCinema
Turbo in a 991s ???? this is not the new facelift model...
+MemoryLaneCinema 991.1 are non turbos. The new 991.2 are turbo.
Thank you very much ! I try my best and I'm glad you like it. Greets

Thanks for your comment ! It's nice to read that you agree with me. I would love to test the new Cayman next year. As with the C4 its up to Porsche to give me that chance. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer

Reviewing is not an easy job.. thank you for your total honesty, If I could add another Porsche to my garage I would seriously consider a 991 S PDK with sport design wheel and paddles. Thanks again Guido!
Nice work man, love your tests! keep on going with the great work! Greetings for Greece!

thanks for video Mr. the getawayer. I watch always! hello from brazil
Great review as usual.
Awesome car, good videos and great sound.
And I like earing the German accent too. That sounds a bit funny as it must also be for others earing French people speaking English ;-)
You do a great job. Keep the steering this way !
I really enjoy your videos Guido, well done. I can't wait to hear your opinions on the 2013 Cayman.
Thanks ! I really appreciate your feedback, Willem !
Thanks Les ! Really glad you like the review. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much ! I will be testing the new Cayman S in a few weeks, so I hope you stay tuned. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Another insightful and entertaining video-keep it up.
Thank you ! Glad you enjoyed the video. Greetings, TheGetawayer
Great review, love your channel!
Greets
Thanks. Nice review format, the video angles and sound add realistic, if visceral, feeling.
awesome. how could i have missed it? had a little street race yesterday with a 993 carrera 4.. cant imagine how bad it would have been for me if that would have been a 991 hehe. must be an awesome car. thanks for reviewing it and sharing your thoughts with us. definitely looking forward to your cayman review as well ;)
Thank you for a really interesting review. I hope you get to compare the manual soon in the New Year. I have seen several reviews now and I like the way you describe the experience.
Great review friend! Many many information! A potential porsche buyer would certanely find this usefull! Great filming as well!
Great road tests Getawayer, I really enjoy your comments and opinions - when are you coming to drive in Australia? :-)
Vaughan Graham Haha, thanks ! I hear the speed limits are pretty low there, but I love these SUV / Sedans cars...What are they called again ?
Thanks Mark ! The 7 speed manual review is already uploaded. I drove it in a new Carrera 4. Greetings, TheGetawayer
Very nice review, as always! Sehr Gut ! I'm most happy with my 997.2 Carrera 4, I think I will keep it a few more years :-)
Thank you very much !
You're welcome ! Thanks for the feedback, Fernando !
great review! keep up the GREAT work!
Great review as always!Very professional!
Thanks ! Your feedback means alot to me. I guess all real 911-fans need a bit of time to like a new design and it has really grown on me now. The new roof is excellent, almost like a hardtop, but I'm sure you are a Porsche-fan and know all about it :)
Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thank you very much for your feedback, Stephen ! Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
I like your reviews. More to come? Thanks.
Thanks Guido, Great job as always.
Thanks for the comment !
Thanks for a great review. The thing that always brings smile to my face is that brutal backfire noise when you lift gas or shift down =) and i also cant decide which is better 911, this or 997... starting to like the looks of 991 more, except panamera console.
I'm 6'4 and fit perfectly. Never had any issues with the seating position in a Porsche. Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Thanks for your reviews, i really enjoyed them.
Thank you very much ! I will try to get more Mercedesses to review next year. Greetings from germany, Guido aka TheGetawayer
Yeah, that's why I mentioned, but the rest did really grow on me and I like it now. I am in contact with Porsche to get a car next year and since my Boxster 981 went really well, I hope I can get my hands on more of their cars.
Greetings, Guido aka TheGetawayer
