The banter back and forth between you and Vince always makes me happy.
I love that there's a miniature painters extended universe now
This could be awesome! Who is which MCU character?
This needs to happen
2:22 Vince's elf looks SOOOO good. I bet he was using his Monument Hobbies Signature Series paints; still the best set of signature series paints.
We need a reduel, Jon, but in reverse: Vince get your mini to make his
You guys need to do way more of this type of content. Much joyfulness indeed
I appreciate the attention to matching the lighting and schemes here. Even in the same team or army, I often struggle with this because I want to try new techniques. I think this will add to my perspective and allow me to worry less about technique and more about color.
Hell of a skill set in the lighting of models painted by different folks, they look as if they were painted at the same time. vibrancy matches across both, the usually bright color for the good guy and dark for the bad guy are often so contrasted, not here, the differences are obvious to who is who but so well balanced by color scheme and lighting/highlighting resulting in each being able to stand alone while a perfect match when together! Great work!
Vince's response: a short and stern "sure..."
Congradulations on a paintjob almost as good as Vince's! Your ability to steal things that were given to you is 2nd to none!! But they do look great together! Well done!!!
This is like the mini painting version of celebrity boxing. Need a whole series of content creators dueling with a mini duel piece with the same heat of Jon Vince trash talk
Make it like chess boxing, a round of painting then a round of boxing and then another round of painting.
Both are incredibly badass models! When they are together, it is another level!
they look perfect together you nailed that lighting.
Wow. This is a really really really nice painted little side kick to Vince's Masterpiece. :D
That red cloak was a solid choice. It really pops so much against the other colors and looks great. Totally achieved the 'people will look at my model first'.
it's always so nice to see you do figures in larger scales and not tied to any game system/world.
beautiful work.
The sculpts and the color choices remind me of Kabuki theatre and what colors the protagonist and antagonist share. Red warm tones for the hero and blue/purple cool tones for the villain. Even the poses, "good guy" elf's Vader hand and the over all composition harken to wood lock prints
Awesome work! I have been looking forward to your part of the model since seeing Vince's video a few days ago.
Friday, 2pm. Finish work and see a new Ninjon video go up. Love it.
A great job, Jon and Vince. Perfection! Both models look like they should be together 👍
This is beautiful, the way you matched the vibe is incredible.
I don't know if you realize it yourself, but you've become a fantastic painter. Superb work!
These models look amazing together!
These both look incredible, and you can tell your painting has also improved
Man you both did a fantastic work on your paint jobs
Referencing Super Troopers and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, very matter of fact/no stress approach, and talking shit to your buddy. Nothing more relatable than that. Always great vids, Jon!
Love the choices and the execution, great job
2:40 I like the color scheme of your dark elf. Could you maybe post the color palette used for this model as well?
Awesome concept for a video! Really liked this one!
Love your paint job. Yours is very definitely the hero, plus in the competition between you and Vince, you won. ;)
Damn I forget just how insane you are, your light orientation is always perfect and your shading is phenomenal, maybe one day I can be %1 as talented as you are
These models look great!!
Looks great!!!
That miniature reminds me abit of Gundahar and other Germanic mythological heroes, I like it 👍
I know a lot of times they do those kick starters mostly for making art sculptures, but I hope at some point they can work with one of these artist and make a full army of these elves, I’ve never been a fan of high elves, but this design is really cool and I would love to make a full army of these and for the Kickstarter, you do the STL‘s instead of physical models. I know a lot of people would be totally for that but I know different creators are trying to create different things.
Nice work..love those figures
Lol, your music started and I thought it was going to be ON A STEEEEEL HORSEEEE I RRRRRIDDDEEE
Just a great, great video.
Epic as usual bud
Gorgeous 😊
Great video again Peach. Will echo how you go from 'chuck some base coats on, slap some strong tone on, 'tidy up a touch' and it looks amazing on the close up.
Would you manage to paint all of these within a single session? I get as far as basecoating the leather bits before I'm done for the night.
Beautiful work as always!
hmmm you are looking leaner damn. congrats!
I was thinking of the recent Beta Ray Bill design with the helmet. It has a Mohawk.
Amazing paint job, I think the brush on the helmet would've also looked good as a similar blue to the trim
hi ninjon something I have recently discovered on working with "pure red" and hilights is to use an undercoat of super bright magenta before going for a pyrrol-style red over the top, it really gives it some insane rich juicy punch that works beautiful. Gives it that extreme punch and contrast without having to lean into lobster territory (you know what I mean)
I was expecting a "jump scare" clip where Vince squints at the screen before spinning around to check for the model you stole 😁
Amazing work!
I know the model will come out great but does anyone know where to get those cats tongue brushes with the gold ferrule? I love using cats tongue brushes but can’t find any good quality ones and Jon’s look noice.
1:57 - ok, pausing as Hobby Cheating videos drop on Saturdays, ain't it so Vince? ;)
Anybody know what that hoodie is? Looks comfy AF.
Supernice colours
Duuuude, Bold Pyrrole Red RULES.
Love the Frienemy relation with Vince. Can't you coach Scotty a bit too?
Can someone remind me the brand of the brushes with the flat ferrule? I know Jon says it in a previous video, but I can't find it.
Thanks for the help!
I believe the flat ferrule brushes are from Kimera
@clayhedges1060 it was indeed! Thanks for the reply!
Anyone else hear that synth startup and immediately in their head hear, "It's me, an Asian."? Lol Great vibes as always
Hello nice work, i'm jealous at how good you are.
I have a question, what brushes do you use?
your bases are touching tips (Beavis and Buthead laughter)
I think the biggest difference I see is the way you painted the skin, especially the face and eyes. Otherwise the lighting and style match up very well, though yours does look overall a bit brighter and more saturated to me as well; but then maybe that's a good contrast here.
It was weird, at the very end, I could only see a dark elf, camera issues maybe?
Seriously though they both came out amazing. Loved the nmm and skin
Hey, Jon. I don't know if you know this, but you're pretty good at painting.
Funnily enough, I was going to give the breakfast smoothie a try, but turns out they don't ship to Europe yet.
Do you use Epidemic Sound too? I've used that same song, Deep Space Samurai, in a few of my videos as well lol.
Out of curiosity when struggling for color scheme, is there a reason why you didn't bust out the color cubes?
Now give it to Miniac to finish the base xD
❤️👍 amazing video agen bro 🔥🤘
Jon and Vince 2028!
Maybe that would actually get Scott to vote!
I hate painting gray and silver, it always look like unpainted to me (not your case though). Good job Jon!
He-man vs Skelletor ❤
Thor vs Skeletor paint job or should I say Skele-thor. I’ll see myself out!
awesome.
Pigment predicament is a bar
By the way, the good elf is dead in your mini vignette. His shoulders are not square to the bad elf and he is not even looking at his opponent, so that naginata is going to take his head in a flash.
I stole Vince's figure........ And now he knows. Good job your good mates.
I know it's kind if your style, but I really want to see you paint some different skin tones. Seems like you've been using the same de-saturated red to warm ivory since you did the skaventide clan rats.
You've heard of elf on a shelf, now get ready for elf on elf.
Amazing job!
Isnt that one of the scenes in AVN award winning lords of the ring?
Oops, wrong platform!
Everybody loves a bit of elf on elf action. Now, wait... that sounds wrong ;-)
Insta-like for the Monty Python reference.
You say thor, I say a Lannister always pays his debts.
Vincie V really is a strict technomancer.
elf on elf action
Would have been a great opportunity to use the Color Cube to choose a nice color scheme!
Thought the elf was female, love the paint scheme 👍🏽
May I pretty please name a future NPC 'Vince's Emo Elf'?
yeeehaaaa!
They are facing each other. That means the blue light on the back of the "bad guy elf" should be lighting up the FRONT of the "good guy elf". You painted the back as if they were standing shoulder to shoulder away from the light. :) Minor nitpick, it looks great. But here you go, time to start over. JK!
I thought the same thing when he first brought it up. But it is shining from below on Vince's model so, wouldn't even be directed at Jon's model. So I am thinking there is some ambient source surrounding the both of them
I need to get a nemesis
Lyla Mev recommends photographing the zenithal prime, so you can refer back to the pictures for shadow and highlight placement reference after you start to paint the midtones over it.
Please fix your audio, music is way louder than your voice so I always have to adjust the volume
I don't know if this goes against a principle of yours, as you usually only refer to general colours but i'd love to see a bit more specifics on the paints you've used. I copied the AK Burnt Red to AK Luminous Flesh you used in a video a few months ago and it's a fucking REVELATION and it's 1 billion% down to the specific paints. However i had to play the video at half speed and be a quickdraw on the pause button to catch it. Edit: Like how in this very video you discuss a p3 paint and how it fulfils your needs etc.
love your high elf. but.... wtf is he looking at. . . . thanks man
(Plate mail not ring mail.)
wow
You did a great job matching the tonality of both minis, except for the red. The colors you chose for the cloak are way too saturated to the point they look out of place on camera; maybe in person it's not that bad but it's very noticeable and goes way beyond simply "catching your attention" like a bright skinned face would do.
"Sure"
54mm is big
Now kith
Ninjon, I pledged for your Exemplar Wet Palette and there's no sign of it being shipped out to Europe and they won't reply to my messages. Can you get some answers for European and UK supporters?
woohoo :)
I saw the thumbnail and thought, "Cool, a Thor Elf"
Always love your work but I will never do non metallic paint schemes. What I have done is blend or use two to three metallic paints themselves and touch up with inks. I actually have bottles from the old Citadel range, though fewer and fewer, (Talking late 90's here). An example of what I am saying is Bronze and Brass. Base in bronze, mix brass and bronze and layer on the first coat, then brass on the most raised surface. Finally, my favourite to finish this is bronze flesh ink. Looks good and I don't have to be the genius you are.
I don't know if my eyesight is going bad , but the whole video seems out of focus.
