    "Not everybody wants what we have to offer"
    This is SUCH a valuable lesson for everyone, in all areas of our lives; that sometimes we're just not the right fit, and that's beautiful and okay.
    I love this.

    Regarding the *relationship* instead of transactional bit from ~2:00 to ~2:50, I have a combatives ("martial arts") teacher for a class I attend regularly and have for years, who said that at his age he doesn't want any students who've gotten like 5 different brown belts in different arts, because he knows it'll be a waste of his time and energy investment to just be the 6th or 7th in a line of being just a brief relationship instead of long-term.
    That sounds so valuable, hearing it not just from him, but then nearly the identical concept and theme here from you, in an entirely different sector/industry, mentioning the value of not just having a transactional relationship or being "disposable" and replaceable to people.

    It's too bad you are not in my state or area. Our electrician closed his business due mainly to an accident he had with a chainsaw. The last company we dealt with sent a cockey jerk so we won't be calling them back. You and Dustin on Electrician U are the two I favor the most on YT because of your honesty, integrity, and ability to share your knowledge so anyone can understand it. Also I would like to say thank you for this channel. I'm going to call my favorite Electrical supply house for a recommendation for my area. Take care.

    Smart contractor. After having to wait up to 6 months to get paid by doctor's & dentists stopped doing work for them. Artist are the most strangest group. Several times after giving them a quote told me they are struggling artist and deserve a huge discount. My uncle used to give people who were just starting a business a cheap price because they told him they would be giving him a lot of work in the near future. Don't think one of them even called him back. My motor rewinding shop warned me about a couple of large businesses that were bad pay. When one of them called me told them I do not do work for dead beats. Told me but it's an emergency so I told them to call me back when they had a thousand dollars in cash to give me at the start of every day I work there. I never had trouble getting paid by any poor people and most middle class but the rich taught they were entitled and should not have to pay anyone for months. Best was a rich guy called me up on a Friday morning and said he had to have his tennis court flood lights working before Saturday night. Guy had a powder room right inside basement door but he said we could not enter even if we took our work boots off. Was charging him by the hour so we had to drive halve hour three times to use a restroom. Of course I drove extra slow.

      man i HATE using portapotties etc. and often i will go the whole shift and wait to go at home, the avg guy cant/wont so they have to supply SOMETHING for personal sanitation, NO facilities available at a jobsite, is an OSHA violation and could be ultimately breaking Federal Law, sanitation standards (29 CFR 1910.141, 29 CFR 1926.51 and 29 CFR 1928.110)

    Business and customer relationship should always be based on respect. When you respect someone, you don't screw them over. Whether it's walking into a grocery store or hiring a skilled tradesman, it's about respect.

    At least he hung up. I worked around some guys who were abusive to clients and staff and no training. It took the company years to get rid of them, because they we're afraid of them. First rule trust your gut

    For clarification, I see a lot of service businesses charging fees for estimates but applying those fees to the job if awarded. Is this your practice to or is it always a separate fee on top of an awarded job?

    What would be your answer if I ask for a service up grade from 100Amp service to a 200Amp service? Let us assume I was in your district.

      @@ElectricProAcademy I always go and look at every job. Service upgrade you need to look at the circuits and count up how many 20,15, and 2 poles there are. Will you need a disconnect or not. Always have to look at the job, I give no over the phone bids.

    • @JohnThomas-lq5qp
      @JohnThomas-lq5qp 2 года назад

      I did most of the hundreds of service upgrades in a big city where just about every house built after the 1940's had natural gas for everything. Some old houses had oil heat gas for dryer & water heater and electric stove. Had houses that only large electric load was electric stove & either central air or 3 or 4 window AC units all on a 60 amp service. I would tell people that 100 Amps is more then adequate so seldom did any 150 or 200 amp residential services. Got great prices years ago when I purchased 1,000' of 100 amp service cable along with a 100 15 & 20 amp single pole breakers and 10 panels & 10 meter sockets. Got smart and paid a little extra for heavier 100 amp meter sockets that only had 3 mounting holes. Made it a lot easier mount meter can on a uneven stone wall. Would purchase several sheets of 3/4" plywood and back then only pay a dollar for lumber yard to cut 2sheets in halve, maybe a few others in 3 cuts then paint them all at once.
