Yes, you caught the reference to the song "Regulate" by Warren G at the beginning. The song is based on a real-life narrative, where Warren G recounts a night that starts out as an ordinary evening and quickly turns into a dangerous situation... If you know, you know😉
Yeah, what you've just watched is called Bardcore. Well done for letting the whole series run through. It's a nail bitting master piece of storytelling based on a true story for parts 1 and 2 .Part 3 is fictional . I'm not sure what you've done on the Ren rabbit hole yet, but if you haven't, then a look, a sick boi might be the next step. Loved this reaction. ❤. Uk Renagade here. 🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧👍😁❤️❤️
Just to add to this statement: Ren had a read an article in the local newspaper about a young prostitute who was killed by a teenage boy via stabbing. He felt very affected by the story and decided to create the Tales. The "It's such a shame" line is a direct quote from the article, written by the author proclaiming how it was "such a shame" that such young peoples' lives were destroyed by their circumstances, although it could be read as though judging the prostitute more than the boy who killed her. Violet's Tale was a creation to make a real commentary on generational violence, abuse, and pain. He decided to weave the separate people into a single connective thread, but keeping it until the end to really drive the impact of that message to the listener/watcher. Since you have watched the entire Tales, some context: Jennifer and James (Jenny and Screech) are 14 years old. The implication here is that Jenny represents their mother (Violet) who is an abuse survivor that has no ability to really defend herself from the abuses and, eventual, killing of herself because she "has no voice". Screech represents their father (Stevie) as the oppressive, aggressive, reactive, and abusive counterpart to Jenny's gentle defenseless soul. Ren actually wants to create a TV series on Netflix that uses music to tell similar stories, using instruments and the bodies of performers as props and tools to add atmosphere and depth, creating living musical theatre and I cannot wait for this to happen. Examples like Hi Ren, Money Game series, and the Tales are perfect examples of this idea and I really hope we can get him there!
@@thisisshari Of course! Glad to help you down the incredible world of Ren. I would keep my Netflix subscription JUST for Ren's show, that's just how amazing it would be.
It's surprising you haven't done the "trumpet" sound before. It's a semi-occluded vocal warm-up technique. Then he gives a little cough. He's portraying a minstrel preparing for a performance. And what a performance he gives us!
Did u notice in screech’s tale when he knocks on the guitar he changes from 3/3 timing to 4/4 timing, small detail, but it changes the feel of the song
What made it hard is people kept yelling at him to shut up so he had to restart several times. It's based off of a true story of a new article but put his own spin on it.
Modern Day Tragedy brought to light with a social commentary on our failing to address generational violence & the systems in place that fail both the abused and the children caught in the middle. Our amazing Bard Ren. ❤
Your reaction (to the ending) is priceless and perfect! Exactly what us renegade reaction freaks live for! 😂 I could tell you were so into the story that you forgot you were filming which is totally understandable!
I know this may have been mentioned in your other reactions to Ren, but Ren is the king of One Take videos, whereby he makes multiple attempts to have 0 camera breaks or cuts. The Tales are all one takes, only separate between each tale. He choreographs and practices every single song he makes and is intensely detailed, precise, and meticulous with them. To truly get a sense of his incredible choreography, I recommend Animal Flow and Money Game Part 1 and Part 3. Part 3 is a true masterpiece though.
A lot of his bardcore/guitar things make me think of all those times I live my life and wonder 'what would the soundtrack to this moment be?' except if I heard the music from the tales I would helll nah out of that moment so fast
Love your shock at the end, ive seen a few reactors miss the twist and its so disappointing. Thank you for not stopping, with these songs it can really disrupt. Looking forward to more from you 💙
One small thing about Violet's tale most people don't notice on first playthrough is that he starts rocking in a birthing-position. A little tease on what's to come. Also a moment later he uses the guitar to go "back in time"
This is a Tragedy worthy of Shakespeare and Deeper than most may realize. Violet moved out on Welfare at 16, concidering what her Father did to her, Jenny and Screech may actually be her Half Siblings as well, explaining why she has a "Welfare Flat" at 16. Jenny is just like Violet was as she never says a word when Screech attacks her, and Screech, just like Violet's Father has a Violent Temperment. A True Terrible Masterpiece! Ren is a Master at Combining all art forms to support his stories. From Location and Video Directing Worthy of Tarantino or Spielberg, to Lyrics Shakespeare would have been Proud to have Written, To an Emotional Performance on par with Marlon Brando or Morgan Freeman and the Musical Prowess of Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton and the Vocal Chops of Robert Plant or M&M! He can reach right through the Camera and Grab the Soul of his Audience and hold it in the Palm of his Hand! Ren really does have it all!
Lol, there's a neon on the wall behind you saying "dream", I had to take a closer look if it was saying "damn" as well, but no, that was just you, repeatedly... Great reaction, thanks!
IMHO the Tale of Jenny and Screech is a Three Act Shakespearian Tragedy, in the style of the wondering minstrel bard. Ren has self identified his music as bard core, so that is confirmed. This is an ancient style of music; that goes right back through the wondering minstrel bards of the middle ages. The works of Chaucer sung in the Wife of Bath's ale house. The north African "Bearded Man" wondering from house to house, tent to tent and hearth to hearth; for a meal and place to sleep. And back to the Dark Ages of Anglo Saxon epic poetry of Beowulf, on through the Greek Homeric tales of The Iliad and The Odyssey and the beginning of the Choir. This form of story telling probably goes all the way back to Ugg twanging his Bow to woo the Chiefs Daughter or complain about the Chief stealing the meat from his hunt, at the hut of the Widow Ale Wife, where he and others would congregate to let off steam and tell tales of epic hunts; to then draw on the local cave walls, like the graffiti in The Tales. The music acted in part as interlude/intro as well as melodic emphasis and sound effects for the story. And right up to the modern busker, on the street corner or the subway, playing for a few coins and some smiles. I love Ren and Samuel's use of locational reverb in the sound production, something that instantly stood out to me as a sound engineer and producer. They also got lucky with the Seagulls in part of the song which then was deliberately left in and emphasized in the mix. Also throughout the acting and staging all done live! All of this indicates the intellectual level of the performance and production in this piece of art
You asked for a dope beat: Ren's more recent rap song "Illest of Our Time" you will definitely like reacting to. He breaks genre labels with nearly every song.

In Jenny's tale when he is Screatch he plays the guitar with a pick and when he is Jenny he is playing the guitar with his fingers to get different sounds... something most people don't notice
More percussive and he uses his thumb and pointer fingernails as the pick. No actual pick used as there are no cuts for him to grab, discard, and then reacquire a pick.
