Hi and welcome to the Reniverse. Ren is the artist for the new millennium, a breath of fresh air. He has taken the rule book and torn it up! Continue reacting to this incredible artist as we Renegades are always hungry for the thoughts and insights of those with ears to hear. Subbed for more Ren. 💞🐷
For more of Ren singing, try Back on 74/Message In A Bottle Retake or some of his tracks with The Big Push (a band he was in for awhile) like Precious and Englishman in New York. He definitely has reggae influences, also lots of jazz, funk, soul, classic. Ren can also play piano beautifully. All self taught, most of his videos (like this one) are recorded live as one takes, which is quite a feat in itself. Enjoyed your take on this! Subbed for more Ren!
He does two brilliant Duets with Chinchilla, both singing, both amazing. You won't be let down. Back on 74 and Fred Again Mashup also showcase his voice, especially the latter. Also tip top. Then he has his band The Big Push busking (playing & singing on the streets) A lot of other stuff is more rappy or a mix which I love but you are after the voice The Tale of Jenny and Screech (13 minute verson with violets tale) is his shakesperian piece everyone loves, but once again, more Bardish than singing.
He also does a couple of busking covers with Chinchilla, Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing, and a mash up of Drake and Beyonce: One Dance and Drunk in Love.
The best description for this I have seen, is it being described as a short opera. It isn't structured like a song, it is a story and a journey. It's very well done.
One camera, one guitar, two lamps, one Ren, one take. It will be a bumpy ride, but the Renegades are here for it. #Bardcore. Edited...more than one camera and lighting to film.
There were actually FOUR cameras one to Ren's left, one to his right, one central and the hand-held one. And all done live - thought it took 4 or 5 attempts.
Ren is such a gem musically and lyrically. HIs story telling is also on another level. He can really drive you into the story. Great example is the trilogy songs: Violets tale, Jennys tale and Screeches tale. Great video Tim!
This phenomenal young man REALLY is a once in a generation ARTiiiiiiiiist. You'll find out for yourself if you decide to dive into the REN rabbit hole. Soooooooh Deep and Diverse 🎵🎶🍯🤌🔥🙏💪🐝🍀
You are just barely tapping the surface, REN to me is amazing, I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions of him singing so i will just say WELCOME, to the world of REN.👍🍀
Yes, "he sings". Check out his live performances on the streets of Brighton with his band, The Big Push. They do a medley of "I Shot the Sherriff", "Zion", and "Hip Hop" which will showcase his vocal abilities.
@TimWelchVocalStudio It's his band, The Big Push - Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/ Hip Hop. Make sure it's the red suspenders version, or you'll get a bunch of comments about choosing the wrong version 😂
So fun to see you get your first listen to Ren. He is a once in a generation artist. Brilliant and a kind and compassionate soul. For singing I would check out Chalk Outlines.
Thank you for a very enjoyable reaction. I’m a first time viewer of your channel and I love your focus on the singing aspect of Ren’s music. Ren often mixes singing and rap, it’s one of the things that I love about his music. I have subscribed and look forward to watching more of your music reactions.
He is really singing in the video it wasn't dubbed in later from a studio recording. Apparently he has a thing with his videos. He always wants to do the entire video in one shot. From one point of view with one camera not multiple cameras and splicing them together later. It's always very impressive watching his videos because there's so much more going on than just him sitting down and singing a song. You'll notice that the more of his videos you watch. It's like an entire theatrical event almost. There's like so much going on including in the background.
Ren is a once in a lifetime artist and I’m so thankful that he is around in my lifetime. He is incredible and isn’t afraid to show his vulnerability and connect with people via his own experiences.
It's so great to hear you mentioning how theatrical this is, how it feels like it's extracted from a play... Especially knowing that you still didn't see The Jenny and Screech Trilogy 😁 You have a mind-blowing experience in front of you :)
It makes me sad to know that the lad spent most of his twenties seriously ill, misdiagnosed, mis-medicated, for stretches bedridden & understanding he didn't have long to live.... but Jeezo, there is some potent single-minded art pouring out of him these days! His health will never be 100%, but he's more glad to be alive than many folk I know who all take their health for granted. For the singing side of Ren, I recommend the busking on the streets of Brighton vids: "Wade in the Water..." with his band The Big Push is a fun one. "Earned it..." with the also excellent Sam Tompkins is great too. ;)
This was filmed multiple camera and 1 visual take but 2 audio take from 4 film tries before he was happy with the recording. Buckle up, he loves 1 take music and old band called Big Push with lots great singing.
They got thrown out of the building so he wasn't that happy He was about to leave UK for medical treatment in Canada So this is the third try they had to use!
great reaction! Love your insights. For singing Ren: Back on 74/Message in a Bottle Fred Again Mashup Chalk Outlines ft. Chinchilla (live version) Humble ft. Eden Nash Plus his work with his band The Bug Push, particularly the busking session where he’s wearing red suspenders: War Pigs mashup I shot the sheriff/road to Zion mashup And he has a bush king session with Sam Tompkins where he sings It’s a Man’s World (it’s a mashup of several songs)
Those first oooh-oooh's are all in one breath...impressive. Boy are you in for a treat and enjoyable discovery of a 'generational' artist. Looking forward to your future goosebumps.
Jenny & Screech trilogy is hard but amazing story telling. Su*c*de is heartbreaking but utterly captivating. Sickboi is an amazing tale of current society. Ren is an amazing musician/bard/writer/performer/actor and a massive vulnerable and honest human being. The world needs so many more Ren's. Ren is a rabbithole of amazing music and stories
I listen to this song, and reactions to it, almost daily. What a joy to re-discover the amazement I felt the first time I heard it by witnessing the astonishment others feel when they discover the magic that is Ren. I know everyone has their favorites (cause it's never just one favorite with Ren) but for other-worldly singing talent on show my money is on his duet with Sam, "Blind Eyed.(Renegades: did your hearts skip a few beats when Tim talked about skipping some of the song?)
My favorite singing version of Ren is his Fred Again mashup. Also, a busking session with his band The Big Push, covering Wade In The Water/Trouble So Hard
I just love the Fred Again Mashup, not just for his passionate singing but also for the way he took those EDM songs and smashed them together to produce a quintessential REN song.
Welcome to the wonderful world of ren, where you can always expect the unexpected 😊 hes an amazing artist and a once in a generational type talent. Subbed in hopes of more ren! 😁🥹💜
REN would love this reaction. ☺️ You did so well describing him after one listen: “Mega-talent, raw, edgy, agility, wild, strong-solid-singing voice, reggae feel, clever, vulnerable, wild piece of art, amazing dynamic artist” Thanks for the wonderful reaction! I would personally enjoy seeing your reaction to REN’s trilogy “Jenny’s Tale, Screechs’ Tale, & Violet’s Tale”…..all should be watched & reacted upon in one sitting. Thanks again!! 🎵 🎶 🎼 🎵🎶
I love your comments and overall take on this video of Our Boi, and I know you're gonna love his other stuff as well! My suggestion for your next experience of Ren is the 13:31 version of "The Tale of Jenny & Screech". It definitely showcases his talent in storytelling and it shows why he considers his musical genre to be Bardcore (even though he fits very well into many genres). You are headed down the rabbit hole, my friend... enjoy the ride!
We love your "first listen". No better way to react! Love your reaction! Please react to Ren and Chinchilla (and also Chinchilla by herself). Also, if you never heard of Yebba, she is fire, try her Tiny desk concert.
Welcome to Ren. There is literally nothing that is sub-par. As you proceed, you will meet a number of other talented artists Ren has collaborated with--The Big Push, Chinchilla, Eden Nash, Molly McKinna, and more. You have plenty of additional songs to start out with, and I know you'll find each to be outstanding!
This was the first Ren video I saw. He ... absolutely ... floored ... me. He is just so fantastic; all he has gone through put to music. I think you will have a lot of fun watching him! For a more singing piece, check out his "For Joe." Thanks for the great breakdown!
You popped in on my feed with my favorite artist, and so glad you've found him. Others have commented about suggestion to check out next, and they won't lead you astray. My personal favorites from when I first discovered his music: Ren and Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed | M.C Sessions (half a dozen of versions of Blind Eyed out there, including "Angry car park attendant...") Ren & Sam Tompkins - Earned it /Mans World / Falling (Ren & Sam busking in Brighton)
You have to watch ren and chinchilla singing chalk outlines , that will blow you away, and the full three part version of the tale of jenny and screech, you just might have a meltdown on that one, trust me you'll love me for suggesting both of those 😉
Welcome to Ren. You won't be disappointed at all. Ren can sing, rap, play guitar and piano and produce his music. There's so much to explore. The Big Push from Brighton, busking. Sam Tompkins and Ren. Chinchilla and Ren highly recommend. Chalk Outlines for harmonies. The Big Push, I shot the sheriff/road to zion/hip hop. An English man in New York or Bongo Bong very good. Rap wise his words are clear and lyrically a genius. I was lucky enough to see Ren live last weekend and sing Hi Ren live. 9 minutes of sheer awesomeness. Great reaction! Just subbed 😎👍
Tim, this song is his true life experiences. He has been through a lot in his life. He is also a great singer & tells his stories about his life beautifully! We need to share his work and make him bigger ❤
In an interview Ren said that Hi Ren was a one take, the third take they did. They didn't have permission to be in the basement they were in, and they had 4 cameras and two mics. As they were finishing the second take, the building manager walked in and asked them to leave. They begged for another 30 minutes and that was the take they used. However, the very end part when he turns from putting down the guitar and starts talking is a separate take. They were allowed to go back when the building manager helped them submit the correct paperwork. Post production was them just taking footage from the various cameras they had set up to auto record. He's done quite a few single takes, both storytelling and singing solo / duo. 7 months ago he (and Samuel, the cinematographer) won a couple of international music awards for best song video for Money Game III which was two takes (due to technical difficulties). Money game 1 was a single take - but that one took 183 tries over 3 days.
I’ve watched a ton of reaction videos for Hi Ren (probably 50) and I have commented on exactly none of them. But I wanted to tell you that you made this very entertaining. You have a great look with the background lights and you brought a lot to it by discussing the themes and vocals as well. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome to the wormhole that is REN, the modern day Bard, your journey, should you choose to accept it, will be long, full of heartbreak, tears but also joy and fun, most importantly, HOPE......enjoy your stay, a Renegade.
Will always subscribe for REN I am a 53 year old fan girl! Not only is it insane talent but his honest humanity has brought forth a movement greatly needed in this world! (PLEASE WATCH HIS ONE MILLION SUBSCRIBERS VIDEO…. IT WILL SHOW YOU SO MUCH ABOUT THIS AMAZING KID!!!). I have been obsessed with everything REN for two years!!!
❤ Ren is amazing ❤ I have been hooked for almost 19 months now. I will come back for more Ren. I listen to him daily. He has also brought back my passion in music. I am 66 yrs old and Ren is the best emoter, writer, singer, musician I have heard in many years.
Both duets with Chinchilla (Chalk outlines and How to be me) has him singing hauntingly beautiful. The tale of Jenny and Screech (full video with Violet's tale at the end) shows more of his theatrical singing and storytelling which is a must as well. ❤❤❤
Great reaction! Can't wait to seeing you dive deeper into his catalog. You can't go wrong with Ren, but he has songs that are more performance pieces like this, and others that are more traditional songs with a music or lyric video. Some are more Rap, others more traditional singing... I saw others recommend The Tale of Jenny and Screech. That's one of the performance pieces... Might strike you as a little on the longer side, if you felt this was long - but I wholeheartedly recommend you do the full three-song compilation in one go! Trust me, the audience will stick with you, and its a better experience to get them all in the right order, since they tie together in a narrative. Be well! Looking for to the next one.
Ren is a perfectionist, every thing he does is like a piece of art. He's a beast at the guitar. Self tough. Also at the piano. He plays several instruments and are a born artist and a leader. I've never heard an artist like him before in my entire life. It's easier to ask what he can't do then what he can do. Besides that, he's a genuinely nice guy, so honest and caring for others. And he's a great story teller. He puts his heart out in every thing that he does. To hear his excellent singing voice I recommend "BACK ON 74/MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE", or I SHOT THE SHERIFF/ROAD TO ZION/HIPHOP when he's wearing the red suspenders, with his band The Big Push. 👍 Best regards from Norway 🇳🇴
welcome to the rabbit hole that is REN. He is very diverse in his catalog of songs ranging from Rap to Singing and a good number of spoken word pieces. Ren is extremely talented. Hope you continue down the rabbit hole. If your main thing is an analysis of vocal abilities I would highly recommend checking out duets with Chinchilla, How To be Me and Chauk Outlines,. You want the live versions of those videos. Subbed
I've seen a lot of Hi Ren reactions over the last year or whatever, and i gotta say I'm pretty sure you're the first I've ever seen point out the little semi-tone waver in the 2nd repeat of the ooh-ooh-ooh parts! I remember having the same thought, "hmm did he MEAN to do that?" and at the end "ohh yes he did!" 😁 Not much to say that hasn't already been said but I'm really appreciating your attention to detail and breadth of knowledge. Great work on your analyses, have watched several tonight and enjoyed them all.
Excellent reaction, I'm very glad you listened to Ren, he is one of my favorite artists. He tends to rap a lot, but when he sings he steals the stage let me recommend some songs where Ren sings: chalk outlines how to be me crutch ft. bibi freckeld angels These songs have a live version, but I recommend listening to the studio version
I'm sure all Renegades will say "Good job." Ren's catalog can sort of be divided into "singing" and "rapping" but of course with overlap. I second or whatever "Back on 74." For a Dark Horse, I found "Heretic" has this great vocal, reminiscent of "Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd.
Being that you are a vocal coach, I truly look forward to following you down the Ren Rabbit hole. Ren singing "Man's World" on a street corner live is out there. Enjoy.

Its not demons. Its just how brain works. Just because you dont understand how it works does not mean there are demons.

Then he has his band The Big Push busking (playing & singing on the streets)
A lot of other stuff is more rappy or a mix which I love but you are after the voice
The Tale of Jenny and Screech (13 minute verson with violets tale) is his shakesperian piece everyone loves, but once again, more Bardish than singing.
Hair light, 2 key lights and 3 lights in the back ground...don't forget the 3rd one on the wall to Ren's right. Flashy Flashy...LoL!!
There were actually FOUR cameras one to Ren's left, one to his right, one central and the hand-held one. And all done live - thought it took 4 or 5 attempts.
More than one camera. He's mentioned that in many interviews.
@@josephgood2704I sit corrected
Word
Ren is such a gem musically and lyrically. HIs story telling is also on another level. He can really drive you into the story. Great example is the trilogy songs: Violets tale, Jennys tale and Screeches tale. Great video Tim!
Thanks. Looking forward to hearing more of his art.
This phenomenal young man REALLY is a once in a generation ARTiiiiiiiiist. You'll find out for yourself if you decide to dive into the REN rabbit hole. Soooooooh Deep and Diverse 🎵🎶🍯🤌🔥🙏💪🐝🍀
The tales of jenny and screech is a 13 min video it has all 3 parts. Make sure u watch that one
@@TimWelchVocalStudio he calls his genre bardcore.
I'm one of the Renegades, 😊😅and I HAD to sub!!! I loved your appreciation of this genius!!! Please continue this journey so we can join you on it.
🔥All in for Ren.
You would love to hear his voice in the cover of "Shot the Sheriff".
Awesome, I’ll check it out.
@TimWelchVocalStudio It's his band, The Big Push - Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/ Hip Hop. Make sure it's the red suspenders version, or you'll get a bunch of comments about choosing the wrong version 😂
@@TimWelchVocalStudio Yes, red suspender version. Lol
The Ren rabbit hole is a deep dive with loads of different genres covered and some just made by him lol, enjoy the talent of Ren
So fun to see you get your first listen to Ren. He is a once in a generation artist. Brilliant and a kind and compassionate soul. For singing I would check out Chalk Outlines.
In contemporary music, Ren is probably the most naturally gifted and versatile musician since Prince.
@@supertuscans9512👍🏽🐷✌🏼
Check out his singing with the band The Big Push. It will blow you away.
REN’s singing voice is one of the most dynamic I’ve ever heard. Definitely, do more.
For the singing side of Ren, I recommend the busking on the streets of Brighton vids:
"Wade in the Water..." with his band The Big Push is a fun one.
"Earned it..." with the also excellent Sam Tompkins is great too. ;)
🙏🏼✨
This was filmed multiple camera and 1 visual take but 2 audio take from 4 film tries before he was happy with the recording. Buckle up, he loves 1 take music and old band called Big Push with lots great singing.
They got thrown out of the building so he wasn't that happy
He was about to leave UK for medical treatment in Canada
So this is the third try they had to use!
All the comments are good just like to let you know he is an independent artist and managed a number one album in the UK
great reaction! Love your insights. For singing Ren:
Back on 74/Message in a Bottle
Fred Again Mashup
Chalk Outlines ft. Chinchilla (live version)
Humble ft. Eden Nash
Plus his work with his band The Bug Push, particularly the busking session where he’s wearing red suspenders:
War Pigs mashup
I shot the sheriff/road to Zion mashup
And he has a bush king session with Sam Tompkins where he sings It’s a Man’s World (it’s a mashup of several songs)
You are gonna love this guy he has so much amazing music
You gotta do his back on 74 message in a Bottle retake. And Fred again mash up
Great first reaction. Welcome to the world of Ren! subbed for more. Ren has a huge following and many more will be showing up!
Those first oooh-oooh's are all in one breath...impressive.
Boy are you in for a treat and enjoyable discovery of a 'generational' artist.
Looking forward to your future goosebumps.
Haha, he hit’em pretty hard.
Yes, yes 👍🏻 😅
Yes!
I just love the Fred Again Mashup, not just for his passionate singing but also for the way he took those EDM songs and smashed them together to produce a quintessential REN song.
@@daphneparkin6869 it's sooooo good!!!
If you want to hear him sing, react to - back on 74.
Loved your reaction.
Welcome to the wonderful world of ren, where you can always expect the unexpected 😊 hes an amazing artist and a once in a generational type talent. Subbed in hopes of more ren! 😁🥹💜
REN would love this reaction. ☺️
You did so well describing him after one listen:
“Mega-talent, raw, edgy, agility, wild, strong-solid-singing voice, reggae feel, clever, vulnerable, wild piece of art, amazing dynamic artist”
Thanks for the wonderful reaction!
I would personally enjoy seeing your reaction to REN’s trilogy “Jenny’s Tale, Screechs’ Tale, & Violet’s Tale”…..all should be watched & reacted upon in one sitting.
Thanks again!!
🎵 🎶 🎼 🎵🎶
the videos you've been publishing have been exactly what I love, great content!
Happy to hear that! ✨🙏🏼
Added! Thanks for the comment!
Ren is brilliant and this is a masterpiece and I hope you go down the rabbit hole
Love watching the first reactions to Ren and his deep awe-inspiring musical talent. He's lived many lives over.
We love your "first listen". No better way to react! Love your reaction! Please react to Ren and Chinchilla (and also Chinchilla by herself). Also, if you never heard of Yebba, she is fire, try her Tiny desk concert.
Welcome to a musical journey like no other Ren is on another level so enjoy this incredible ride....great reaction appreciate you👍
Welcome to Ren.
Welcome to the world that is REN and his RENegades
You popped in on my feed with my favorite artist, and so glad you've found him. Others have commented about suggestion to check out next, and they won't lead you astray. My personal favorites from when I first discovered his music:
Ren and Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed | M.C Sessions (half a dozen of versions of Blind Eyed out there, including "Angry car park attendant...")
Ren & Sam Tompkins - Earned it /Mans World / Falling (Ren & Sam busking in Brighton)
You have to watch ren and chinchilla singing chalk outlines , that will blow you away, and the full three part version of the tale of jenny and screech, you just might have a meltdown on that one, trust me you'll love me for suggesting both of those 😉
I reacted to Chalk Outlines a couple days ago!
Just subbed 😎👍
ren is like a book whose cover is blank, when you open the book you are transported to the time and place Ren wishes to take you
Tim, this song is his true life experiences.
Wow, very interesting.
This comment meant a lot to read, I really appreciate it. I’m just starting off on doing these. Thanks
People are calling him a modern day Bard. He sings tons of styles and tells powerful stilories. Modern social commentary - just an amazing talent.
A RENegade from outback Australia subscribing to watch you go down the Ren rabbit hole.
The Big Push: Swang song, an old style song.
And so underrated and not many reactors have done it!
Highly recommend this one as well.
Came to say the same. Beautiful harmonies ❤❤❤
Agreed that this is performance art and it still blows me away that it's just one guy in a room with a guitar. Appreciate the reaction!
Welcome to the RENegades family, buckle up for a wild ride down the REN rabbit hole 🇬🇧❤️
Thanks for the recs!
Recs added and thanks for the comment!
Awesome !! This really never gets old. Can't wait to see the next one!! They are ALL amazing!!
Brother man, you're out of your head if you don't watch Ren with Chinchilla "How to be me" - live. The vocals...ooh wee, chills
welcome to the rabbit hole that is REN. Subbed
Ren will not disappoint but his versatility will amaze
I've seen a lot of Hi Ren reactions over the last year or whatever, and i gotta say I'm pretty sure you're the first I've ever seen point out the little semi-tone waver in the 2nd repeat of the ooh-ooh-ooh parts! I remember having the same thought, "hmm did he MEAN to do that?" and at the end "ohh yes he did!" 😁
Not much to say that hasn't already been said but I'm really appreciating your attention to detail and breadth of knowledge.
Great work on your analyses, have watched several tonight and enjoyed them all.
I appreciate that! 👊🏼🔥
Excellent reaction, I'm very glad you listened to Ren, he is one of my favorite artists. He tends to rap a lot, but when he sings he steals the stage let me recommend some songs where Ren sings:
chalk outlines
how to be me
crutch ft. bibi
freckeld angels
These songs have a live version, but I recommend listening to the studio version
….and the live versions…because they are soooo good🤝🙋♀️
Great reaction - sub from me 👍
Greetings from Germany
This old second soprano, alto found that falsetto a bit of a challenge. This man is a bloody genius. ❤
Love Heretic. Definitely underrated
