another cheap move for everyone out there, you head towards the goalies side that your forehand is on, then do the toe drag deke into a shot. your player will then slide over to the opposite side and you'll score 90% of the time
Make sure you are pointing the left stick to where you want to aim the puck when you shoot: the left stick is both move and aim so it's easy to forget that you aim with the same stick that you move with. Hope this helps buddy :)
Sucks that NHL 17 is so fucking flawed now. It's too realistic in a way. Always missing the shots, automatically aiming at the opposite direction for whatever reason, etc. Fucking annoying.

I have seen that one done alot against me in games. It's cheap, but it gets the job done...
