I don't disagree with the new policy but the stock National non-answer to Jack's questions and endless repetition of the talking point is a kind of psychosis. The minister talks about funding methods in general. But bottom line is it will cost $10.00 . If you borrow you need to add interest cost. If private business shared ownership it must get a dividend so additional cost. We did have this thinking in 1950s and 1960s and built things very well. E.g Auckland Harbour bridge, Southern motorway to Ohahuhu /Papatoetoe and North Western motorway from Pt Chevalier to Henderson. Even the Pakuranga Highway.

This what happens when the NP goes to the USA pre-election and spends time with the Republican Party in various R-lead states and downloads the conservative ‘playbook’. If you want to imagine what a future NZ looks like under that regime, look at the R-lead states like Wyoming, West Virginia, North Dakota, etc. The ‘spin’ mechanisms are also straight from the conservative manual. Things do need to change, and it will be an adjustment; the real question, how many NZers are you prepared to leave behind to reach all these ‘promises’ - all of which are aspirational with little regard or emphasis placed on the risks, and most importantly, how to manage options when things change … I’d prefer a more honest and empathetic approach than the ‘new CEO forcing change’ image and ‘let’s blame the last guys for everything’ that this coalition seems to endlessly rotate around … 😕

The trouble with the way the governance operates in New Zealand is that it is tightly coupled to the service layer where apparent politicians or duty-bears try to catch fish for people instead of providing a way for people to fish for themselves.
Public and private businesses or organisations are unable to cooperate with one another because of this tight bonding they have with the governance layer.
Politicians such as Simeon Brown don't understand this and hence why they sound ridiculous every-time they open their mouths thinking that somehow the policy they are implementing benefits all service providers.
Clearly it doesn't, one shoe can't fit every foot.
A better way of enacting governance is to provide people with the tools to create and manage their own policies according to their needs. No politician or external stakeholder could possibly know what that would look like other than the people or organisation creating it in real-time. There is no need for a "government" or separate organisation to manage policies for people.
    Jai Adi Da!

Notice how Jake gives them enough time to see if they are actually answering the question or not, and only if they aren’t then he interrupts.
He does the same to left wing politicians too when they dodge questions.

OK big issue with these kinds of interviews, When you ask someone about the "Overall" or "Average" result of something that has wide ranging variables associated with the issue, your not going to get a real representation of what is being talked about. Funding is a good example because some areas might have a higher need and higher cost and vice versa, where as if you slap an average cost onto it, that negates that idea of the issue completely.
