My father passed on November 13th. Fought Cancer for 8 years. He fought it until he couldn't....but he bought 8 years for my 11 and 13 year old boys to know Grandpa. He wasnt a sci fi guy, but I played this for him a while back, and his entire demeanor changed. He said, "I just remembered my Grandmother singing to me in Irish when I was a small boy". I miss my Dad. Im crying my eyes out right now. Until we meet again, Dad. I miss you.
i've lost family too my man, and i play this to remember that carrying on and keeping everything together is one of the most challenging things, big love my man ! :)
Who is still listening to this in 2019? Brilliant - the Tyllium Asteroid is one of my favourite scenes - Wander my Friends playing, Apollo coming on deck. Brilliant series.
I listen to this song nearly every day. It is capable to calm me down when I am stressed, to give me hope in the darkest hours. Most of the times while I hear this song you will see a smile and a tear in my face at the same time. I love Bears work of art but this song and the adama-theme in general is his masterpeace till this day!
I know BSG had an opening theme but this is the anthem of the show. Bear never fails to hit the mood dead on: Walking Dead theme gives me the creeps, Black Sails theme gets up amped up, every BSG piece gives me the sense of journey, loss, and hope.
This score tears me up every damn time, no matter what version it is I'm ust going to put it partly on my nostalgia of Battlestar Galactica, which was a big part of my live in those days and I miss it every day. Partly becase it is an awesome piece of music. And partly because I am alive. ;)
Wander my friends, wander with me Like the mist on the green mountain, moving eternally Despite our weariness We'll follow the road Over hill and valleys To the end of the journey Come on my friends and sing with me Fill the night with joy and sport Here's a toast to the friends who have gone from us Like the mist of the green mountain Gone forever
This song makes me ache inside with how beautiful it is. So bittersweet. I can't fully describe it. For all those of the past who aren't with us now, and for those who will come after us all, I think of you.
It's the first day in september, I'm at my sister's new house with my first nephew. And while we were doing his last bottle, we listened to this while the sun set. And it was true peace.
hi i hope y'all still living ur wonderful life here at earth. Its been 2 years and only this this song. Everytime i play this i always have that feeling of being grateful, happy and free it always reminds me of how life is wonderful, the nature, the memories & the feelings i have, everything wonderful that happened in my life. Its just so beautiful and if i die i want this play on my funeral too. ^-^
The first time I watched the episode this was in, the music (and scene) moved me to tears. Amazing what real art can do. I then found the studio version on RUclips and obviously loved playing it a bunch. Then...you find this. This is just through the roof amazing. What I really love is seeing Bear himself, and his brother, and wife, and you can tell that this was a work of passion for him and all involved. Rightfully, immensely proud of the fact that in the 2000's, he may have written one of the most beautiful pieces of Irish Gaelic poetry/lyrics, and hit just the right tone with it, not just for the scene/episode of BSG, but for lots of people in similar places in their lives. Something about this performance, too, is that you can almost tell how much the musicians love and believe in the piece. Doesn't feel like a stale playing of the notes. Cheers to what original things passion can still create in this millennium
Wow. Thanks for posting this... believe it or not, I am changing my plans. I want this played at my funeral. I do not want it to be a somber occasion but a celebration of (hopefully) a life well lived and a life well served. This music is so inspirational that it transcends its source and leads us to a better place when it is played. BSG was a special show that showed us our potential while forgiving us our transgressions. Again thanks for posting.
Remember hearing this way back when it first aired on Sci-Fi and it's stuck with me all these years... As I sit here, BSG is on COMET right now, and I'm about 20 minutes away from watching this episode (The Hand Of God) again!!!
A song that demonstrates Irish determination amidst struggle. I love the Gaelic lyrics in it too because it really helps me to feel close to my Irish heritage.
the episode this is was the most amazing tv episodes of anything ive ever seen. It was brilliant anyway but this music playing over the closing scenes took it to a a whole new level of beauty and meaning. I miss this show so much it was everything to me when it was on.
Right around @0:17 my chin scrunches up. Then at about @0:25 when the quick roaring applause comes on, just sobs. Then again, even more so at @2:47 where he just pours it on real quick. So good.
Anybody have any idea how to get an album of this concert? I'm in love with this version of this song and would live to have it in my music library so my wife can play it at my funeral!

It's a sound that comes with people who know freedom - big Irish hills and rain and sunlight, and being in the moments of ordinary life with the knowledge you can speak freely. It's a desire of every human, but it really bubbles up in Irish music, among others.
This was a live concert at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2009. The whole orchestra came together and played multiple nights during the con. I was there and it was amazing!

Bear was just awesome and yeah this is the anthem of that show
Yes that sense of journey, loss, and hope is very Irish, he manages to capture something about our national identity/history too.

This version is in my opinion much better then the version shown in the series. And to me the best I've yet to see.
I loved this from the moment I first heard it in the show - it's been on my playlist ever since. Gotta love those uillean pipes!

The intro whistle - is that a low D or is it tuned in another key?
Is it minstrel boy?
I know the last two instruments the, tin whistle and uillean pipes, is the first one a box standard flute?

It's a Kerry Whistle

Hmm weird. I always remember this piece to be bagpipes.
That's because (and I'm not sure) we only heard this version in the episode "Hand of God" of season 1.
At around 4:06 there are uilleann (union) bagpipes. They are more common in Ireland and look/play very different to the bagpipes found in Scotland.
