Many of us that shout in favor of physical isn't because we just love inserting discs and looking at them but because the physical gives you rights over the copy of your game you will never get with digital. You could be playing online and some dude gets annoyed that you killed him and report you as a cheater and get your account banned and suddenly they just take away thousands of dollars worth of games and leave you with nothing. Hell we had people losing digital games out of their library by mistake just a while ago. No Sony or Microsoft exec is gonna come into your house to take your disks. On top of that you can always resell your copy of a game so is never completely wasted money. Not only that but you can actually give it to a friend to play something you can't do with digital games unless you give him access to your whole account. Also it stops developers and publishers from changing your game. We have seen games get a new version or get censored etc and the developer just forces a patch of you and the game you loved is gone and you want to go back but you can't. Another thing is that if you want to play a game and they just delisted it from the store etc then you can't play it. It's gone. But if it had a physical version then you can get it. So it gives you access to games they made disappear. Lastly this physical games help from game preservation. Because they exist people can always get the rom out of them and have them on the internet for download decades later. And don't even get me started on pricing. Old physical games go cheap after a while and stay cheap. I bought many physical for 10 and 15 and even 5 brand new. Not to even mentioned getting used. With digital you have to hope there is a sale for the game you want otherwise is always 50 or 70 and on top of that if even the physical games disappear that act as competition since consoles have only one digital store then good luck getting discounts. They will be even more stingy. You will wait a whole decade and the games will still be 70. Convivence has a very heavy price and you people don't realise it. and this applies for much more than gaming.

I disagree with your take on Physical is dead part. So many ps4 games you can not buy digital anymore anywhere but I got it physical and i can still play them on my PS5. Also having the Physical option over physical is prob one of the best part of having a console over PC. I would happily pay 2x for a physical game over a digital (funny thing is i get physical games cheaper than digital). Because I value having control over my ownership of games rather than relying on untrust worthy companies who from a flip of a button could delist your digital game or have it taken down. No it won't. Base PS5 is still very capable. Currently PS5 games have a Performance mode ( 60 fps with reduced detail ) and a Quality mode ( 30 fps with high detail ). All the pro is going to is enable you to have the 60 fps from Performance mode as well as the high detail from Quality mode together. They aren't necessarily now going to develop an extra 'Super Quality' mode or something just for the pro.....the high detail settings are already there. If these high detail settings happen to contain ray tracing, then that will just prove to be much less taxing due to the new tech in the pro. That in conjunction with the beefier cpu and upscaling tech is what will ensure that smooth consistent 60 fps is maintained with all the bells and whistles of quality mode. Well, that is how I view things anyway....

Just so you know in the EULA agreement that you agree to on PlayStation services if you buy a digital game, they are well within their rights to not allow you to play that game ever again as in take away the license and access from you, it's legal, it's one thing people who swear by digital don't know but that's a major reason why people stick with physical, cuz not only did they do something like that before with digital video sales. They can take away access to content. Again its In the user agreement. What would you do if Sony happened to take away access to all the games that you bought digitally, take an L???

Sony has always sold consoles at a loss, in order to attract people to their platform. They make profits on game sales, and the cost to make the hardware normally decreases over time, making it gradually more profitable. However this time it’s different. Even after 4 years the PS5 is still expensive to make, and it’s not going to get much cheaper. Sony is not making much money on hardware sales. Second, the console market is not growing. The PlayStation 2 sold 150 million units over its lifetime, while the PS4 sold only 100 million. And half of PS4 owners still have not upgraded to PS5. They aren’t attracting enough new players to the brand. Third, games are more expensive to make and they can’t make as many as they used to. So selling the console at a loss in order to drive game sales isn’t working so good anymore. In order to make more profits, Sony need to sell more consoles. So they need to sell to existing PS5 owners. Selling the PS5 Pro at a loss doesn’t make sense. Any PS4 owner who hasn’t upgraded yet because of the price isn’t going to pick an even more premium model. So to make money Sony need to sell the PS5 Pro at a healthy profit. Hence why it’s going to cost around $1000 in Canada. However very few people will buy it because it’s not much better than the original.

People say that it would cost more to build a PC. While it's true, a PC allow you to do other stuff but also get cheap game with massive deals and no online fees. On the long term, the PS5 Pro is more expensive.

It totally is too much money for this console, why? You can not controll the graphics like you can on pc. You are in the arms of the developer and their mercy. On pc you can tell the game to run at 4k with ray tracing and you are strong enough your pc will do it. You can not go to the graphics settings on the ps5 pro. You can not order it to bump up the visuals (besides 2 modes usually). Ps5 pro is like having a million dollars but forgetting your debit card. On the pc I can upscale and enhance every game with an increase in hardware. No so with the ps5 pro! You are paying for pc level hardware without getting pc level graphics (except for some games, probably not much). If the developer does not care to upgrade there game then you get NOTHING! For $700.

My only gripe with digital on Playstation is the return policy. If you had under 2 hour playtime return policy like Steam I wouldnt mind as much.

Just so you know in the EULA agreement that you agree to on PlayStation services if you buy a digital game, they are well within their rights to not allow you to play that game ever again as in take away the license and access from you, it's legal, it's one thing people who swear by digital don't know but that's a major reason why people stick with physical, cuz not only did they do something like that before with digital video sales. They can take away access to content. Again its In the user agreement. What would you do if Sony happened to take away access to all the games that you bought digitally, take an L???

As for the disc drive… those days are over.
Sony has always sold consoles at a loss, in order to attract people to their platform. They make profits on game sales, and the cost to make the hardware normally decreases over time, making it gradually more profitable.
However this time it’s different. Even after 4 years the PS5 is still expensive to make, and it’s not going to get much cheaper. Sony is not making much money on hardware sales.
Second, the console market is not growing. The PlayStation 2 sold 150 million units over its lifetime, while the PS4 sold only 100 million. And half of PS4 owners still have not upgraded to PS5. They aren’t attracting enough new players to the brand.
Third, games are more expensive to make and they can’t make as many as they used to. So selling the console at a loss in order to drive game sales isn’t working so good anymore.
In order to make more profits, Sony need to sell more consoles. So they need to sell to existing PS5 owners. Selling the PS5 Pro at a loss doesn’t make sense. Any PS4 owner who hasn’t upgraded yet because of the price isn’t going to pick an even more premium model.
So to make money Sony need to sell the PS5 Pro at a healthy profit. Hence why it’s going to cost around $1000 in Canada. However very few people will buy it because it’s not much better than the original.
The ps4 has sold 117 million. The pro is like $959 in canada which pretty much matches the u.s. price of $699 when accounting for the exchange rate. I agree that sony isnt going to sell the pro at a loss. They never sell their mid gen refreshes at a loss.
This is why Sony needs compitition
They have competition you can buy a series x for 600 a series s for 300 another Xbox for 500 a pc handled for 800 or a pc for 2000 dollars. You can also buy a Nintendo for 200 300 or 350. The gpu is the rough equivalent of a 4070 according to df. That would cost $550 just for that piece of hardware. Also, not the same hardware. Its certainly not overpriced.

It's close to $1000 when you consider getting the stand AND the disc drive to to go with it and not only that, But there's BARELY any games for the base ps5 and Most of them are basically just interactive movies. Then the presentation just shows the same old games that people already bought on the pro instead of new games.
It's not that it's the worst thing to happen but it sets a standard like xbox did with xbox live we still getting charged to use our internet to play games on a mini pc is wild so what will future console prices look like. People say that it would cost more to build a PC. While it's true, a PC allow you to do other stuff but also get cheap game with massive deals and no online fees. On the long term, the PS5 Pro is more expensive.
$700 definitely too much when you consider what you actually getting. And let's be honest if the developers don't put that stuff into the game, it's not going to have it. They can boost up the resolution and leave the frame rate at 30 frames per second and says PS5 pro enhanced. So you pay $700 and still playing at 30 frames per second? I don't care about what technology in it if I can't see it on the screen and we don't even get the tech that's in the current consoles on the screen. We still playing PS4 and Xbox One games. It's definitely not worth $700

It totally is too much money for this console, why? You can not controll the graphics like you can on pc. You are in the arms of the developer and their mercy. On pc you can tell the game to run at 4k with ray tracing and you are strong enough your pc will do it. You can not go to the graphics settings on the ps5 pro. You can not order it to bump up the visuals (besides 2 modes usually). Ps5 pro is like having a million dollars but forgetting your debit card. On the pc I can upscale and enhance every game with an increase in hardware. No so with the ps5 pro! You are paying for pc level hardware without getting pc level graphics (except for some games, probably not much). If the developer does not care to upgrade there game then you get NOTHING! For $700.
