Always make sure the engine and gearbox are at operating temperature when draining oils! This makes the oil drain easy and thorough.

Cold oil will dripp out eventually, but it needs time 👍🏻👊🏻😉

Loosen the filler plug first. I'd never thought! That's wisdom for you 👍

I like that you show a current update on changing the fluids in your beamer. Your construction of an ancient Roman aquaeduct saves us from over-oiling the main stand 😉 Thank you sir for that idea👍

Hi Old Mecanic! With your vídeos I do my maintenance at home.
I give you a suggestion: a video showing us how to spect and lubrific the cardan onde R1200GS air cooled easily.

    Hi 'Old Mechanic',
Fantastic videos for an amateur DIY guy like me and my 2009 GS 1200.
Quick question, I need to replace my very old GS battery and I have recently added some extra lights to the 1200 (Front LED lights plus Auxiliary LED Lights). I think I need a higher CCA battery than the existing 200 CCA battery. Can you recommend a good option ? Also have you any preference for a Lead, AGM or Lithium battery for a 2009 GS 1200 ? Many thanks, Patrick.

What were the exact measurements of the filler and drainplug?

I also always thought it was strange for the fill plug on the side to have the magnet. Clearly it works though.

    Hi
Do you use the same oil for the gearbox and rear axle?
    Regards

You can, in a fix, re-use copper washers if they have been used once. Not more.
    But!
You have to warm the old washer to red hot (even a cigarette lighter can do this if you have nothing else), then immediately dip the washer in a cup of water and the copper will be nice and soft again.
But as I said, only once as the washer will stretch beyond the sealing surface after that.
Now I would like to see you do a video on repairing that idiotic ABS pump motor!
I've done it once, 2 years ago, but the other day the ABS light came on twice.
So, this winter the pump.will come out again, and I will see if I can put slightly stronger springs on the brushes to make sure they touch the commutator a bit more firmly.
Or if you know how to bypass the light?
I just want the light not to come in for the bi-annual road worthy test. I don't really care for ABS. I come from an era where no bikes had ABS...
