    I've never been a good mechanic but your videos have given me the confidence to begin maintaining my 2011 R1200gs rather than relying on the horrible service I have received from my BMW dealer. Your videos have very good angles and close ups that I can follow easily. Also like the pace of your work which is very methodical and well illustrated. I'm now looking forward to keeping my motorcycle in much better shape to prevent major repairs. Thanks so much for your willingness to share your knowledge.

    Applying a lite bead of waterproof grease around both ends of the rubber boot, where it meets the driveshaft housing and where it meets the final drive, creates a nice seal to keep water and other contaminants out.

    Enjoying your videos 👍. It's always interesting to see how other people tackle the same jobs. I usually use a scissor jack under the FD rather than hanging it up. Curious that you didn't use any Staburags on the concertina gaitor? It looks like you used nothing? I used a different 'grease' once and it was rubbish, water got in...but because i do this job regularly, it wasn't a big deal. No water inside before or since using the right grease!

    Great video. Very clear. I was wondering why you didn't also do the spline at the other end. Was it because the rear spline was in such great shape or did you just not plan to do it? I have seen some videos where they do both and some where they only do the rear one.

    BMW recomments to take a new screw to connect to the paralever. New screws are prepared with red loctite. Locite 243 is too weak for the screw as seen in the screwer handbooks. For the LC you need the green one. And what about the upper splines? Won't you grease them?

      Dat ga ik zeker doen. Jij bent overigens wel de enigste die hierover een opmerking heeft. Hopelijk weerhoud het je er niet van om te subscriben op mijn RUclips Kanaal.

    I am surprised you use anti-seize compound on the spline. is it recommended by BMW? There is micro slipping there and the compound may act as a grinding agent. I have used bearing grease.
    And I would use vinyl gloves ;)

    • @TheOldMechanic
      @TheOldMechanic  2 года назад

      Hi Fabio, the Bel-ray I use is very good for this aplication, as it contains MOS2, and don't worry it doesn't grind. I wouldn't use just bearing greas as the splines are pushed together with a lot of force, and bearing grease is not made for that purpose.
