- Billy Embody On3.com joins 365 Sports to discuss his thoughts on SMU joining the ACC, what it means for SMU to be in a Power 5 Conference, can SMU compete at the top of the ACC year in and year out in the major sports, and more.

It’s a BIG DIFFERENCE from AAC to ACC… when telling a player that they can play for a national championship… plus being in a power conference walking into a young player home and the transfer market just from the Dallas/Houston area they will make some noise… and they won’t have any issues handling anything about NIL…
SMU probably is still paying off Eric Dickerson like the Mets are paying off Bobby Bonilla 😂
Then why weren’t they dominating the AAC?
2:58 tell that to Pitt who won it 2 years ago beating Clemson to get there and is the 2nd winningest program since 2016 in the conference behind only Clemson. Florida state hasn’t won it in like 10 years and has been pretty mid. They don’t belong in that conversation. Notre Dame has won the regular season more recently
So he said it was hard for anyone besides Clemson and Florida State to win the ACC, and your response was "well that one time Pitt won"? Winning once ever sounds like it's pretty hard for them to win the conference.
Also Notre Dame didn't win the ACC ever. No idea why you think they did.
@@CRS253 2020 Notre Dame were season champs. They lost the title game to Clemson but it was the covid year and they went 9-0 in the conference because they joined it for that season and were crowned reg season champs because Clemson was 8-1.
Pitt won it in 2021 and made the title game in 2018. It’s Pitt. Pitt sucks. My point was and still is that teams like Pitt are making the title game and winning the ACC more often than Florida State since Pitt entered the conference in 2013 and have only been in it for 10 years. Winning once and getting there 2 times as a pretty mid program in 10 years is more of an accomplishment than anything FSU has done since Jameis Winston. He said “it’s been hard for anyone outside of Clemson or Florida State to win the ACC” and I’m saying that Florida State simply does not belong in that sentence currently or for the past 11 years
@@Mark_Cadden regular season championships aren't a thing in football and Notre Dame got crushed in the championship game. So they didn't win the ACC that year, Clemson did.
I bet San Diego State, Memphis, Boise State and USF are feeling like....crap we got left behind.
There still might be sometime left in a few years.
I'm surprised the Big 12 didn't take USF along with UCF. To have 2 Florida schools
Im happy for SMU but standford and cal i still dont get that.
Oregon state and washington state got left behind i hope they can just keep the pac alive and merge the rest of aac or mountain west in. No need to even look at the mac conf.
DESERVES POWER 5 or merge with the remaining pac teams
Oregon st
Washington st
Memphis
UTSA
Tulsa
San diego state
Boise state
Wyoming
Colorado st
Hawaii
Navy Army (if they get on board) if not
Tulane
Fresno state or Lousiaina tech
My sources have been reporting that the ACC is indeed in talks with adding Hawaii, Japan, Norway and Mars also
Dang! They should have added UCF while they could so they could be travel partners for Mars
They couldn’t win in the AAC. They are by far the most under achieving team in that conference.
Not unless they improve dramatically.
Take out FSU and Clemson the rest of the ACC has awful football. It’s not a stretch to say that any team including SMU could win the league… just SOMEBODY do it! At least the Big 12 has decent football top to bottom
Yeah I don’t see how more don’t see this. I’d also say the B10 is not as good in football as everyone thinks too. B12 may not have the brands but it’s gonna be a great football conference
FSU hasn’t been relevant since Jameis Winston until this season (which we still don’t know if we can believe the hype). I don’t know why they’re on the same level as Clemson. I mean Pitt and Notre Dame have won the conference more recently lmao and ironically I think I saw that Pitt is the 2nd most winningest program in the ACC since like 2015 only behind Clemson. That’s probably a big knock on the conference as a whole that Pitt is your 2nd best team by record over FSU, Miami, UNC and whoever
@@Mark_Cadden they’re still the preeminent football bran in the ACC. Clemson has been fairly mediocre up until dabo. Programs rise and fall..
@@Knightowl1980 oh no doubt. They’re a massive brand. I just think on field quality for the past decade has been underwhelming. They got a chance to get back there now of course but we will see
@@Mark_Cadden I don’t disagree. It’s really amazing that none of the other teams have been able to rise up when Clemson or FSU aren’t on top. I legit can’t remember the last ACC team that was great that didn’t include them. We aren’t talking about upstart programs either. VA, VaTech, the U, just kinda mind blowing.
Money talks. Memphis is 7-2 against SMU in last 9 games…and Memphis also has basketball….go figure…$$$$
You use smu as the pooper scooper
They are literally a doormat of the current conference they are in. These SMU donors seem to forget EVERY school does NIL. This isn't the 80s.
Uh no they are not. Two consecutive seasons in the top 15 is enough to call your logic “bullshit”.
Thank God Sonny left.
Why???
