@@HyruIia Yes and no. It's great and honorable, sure. But also extremely risky. Look at the historical evolution of this trend. Kings used to fight in battles, but they slowly moved further away from the battlefield, eventually resulting in them not being there at all (modern age leaders). It's simply too dangerous to put someone that important in a life threatening situation. Sure, it's great, until the leader dies and destabilizes the whole realm.
Stannis was in the middle of the most important military campaign of his life, attempting to fight the most powerful House in the seven kingdoms and losing. The whitewashing they did to Renly the narcissistic prick it's nauseating. They eliminated every single line that depicted him as a sociopath hungry for power and every line the depicted that in the end Stannis loved him and regrets about having to kill him. They even gave Renly the line about loving the other...lmao
I still admired him in the show. He sacrificed his daughter he loved so that others may live. It was a shit exchange, but he did what he thought was the right thing.
The scene with Shireen, the tender one... I watched and was genuinely moved. It felt like D&D actually Understood him from the books, and instead of dropping string hints here and there, coalesced it into one beautiful scene. A scene not in the books but that summed up Stannis relationship with his daughter from the books, but presented in an easy to view format for those who Only knew the show. I had the highest hopes for a "then pray Harder" scene. But no. D&D did that, Just to make what came later more "shocking". After me, it must pass to my daughter, unless Selyse should finally give me a son." He ran three fingers lightly down the table, over the layers of smooth hard varnish, dark with age. "I am king. I cannot agree more. Renley had zero claim to the throne: his only "claim" was that he was lovable, which is the worst possible justification ever. He raised armies against his own brother, knowing full well that he had no legitimate claim. Stannis offered to make him his heir, which when you consider his advanced age and Renley's relative youth guarantees that at some point in the near future he'd be king. That offer alone shows that Stannis wasn't obsessed by some vainglorious pursuit. He wanted continuity, legitimacy, and to spare the people of Westeros the suffering he'd seen first hand. For Stannis, this was duty and obligation. For Renley, this seems to be more about glory, ceremony, and adoration. Otherwise, he would have accepted this incredibly graceful and generous offer. And spared hundreds of thousands.
Renly would have lost all the Tyrell support if he allied with Stannis. Stannis wife was Selyse Florent and one of the major supporters of his claim was House Florent, House Tyrell hates the Florents and the Florents hate they, the family of Selyse has a claim on Highgarden, all Tyrell lands, vassals, basically everything, they ever complained because they say they have more right than the roses
@@frankdodd3355 He had some claim however because Robert had ignored the fact that Stannis was elder and given the Stormlands to Renly, so, it's not really concret but he could argue that Robert had favoritism of his younger brother, and heirs sometimes are appointed and not by primogeniture, and also, Renly and his supporters and most of people don't care about claim really, no one likes Stannis and Renly had more supporters (sorry for my english, not a native speaker)

They say he is rigid and inflexible, yet most of his actions show otherwise; he is the most flexible king we had in the story so far.
Funny how people always describe him as rigid and inflexible, yet he's *constantly* curious about other people's points of view and opinions. And whether he agrees or not, he will truly listen to them and take what they say into consideration if he deems it wise or true.

My favorite Stannis scene is when he sees the Bolton Calvary charge and he realizes all he’s worked for is about to be snuffed out, but instead of running or going back on his principles he draws his sword and sees the battle through to the end
I think it’s a great scene but it’s so illogical in context and that’s my biggest problem with the last few seasons. A great spectacle but poorly written. How could the finest military commander in all of Westeros not remember to have scouts and allow the Boltons to sneak up on him?
the one thing i love about stannis's final battle in the show is that when you look at the big shot with the bolton cavalry charge you can see some troops flee to the woods but you can also see some rushing to surround stannis to protect him. I love to see those loyal troops move to protect him from a battle in which they know they will be massacred anyway. Absolutely loyal to the end.
To be honest, something ended in GoT for me when Stannis died. And now looking back after this disaster of an ending makes me realise how much he contributed to why this series was one of the greatest of all time.
The best scenes in the show belong to Tywin Lannister Davos Seaworth Stannis Baratheon Olenna Tyrell Ned Stark in that order in terms of dialogue and writing... when the show was a political Drama set in a medieval Fantasy
Stannis and Davos were two of the most honorable men of integrity on the show. Melisandre was the wedge that was driven between them, and her interference worked not because she showed Stannis something tempting, but because she drove him towards what he felt was his duty in the first place, making it easier for him to make certain sacrifices that he wouldn't have made otherwise. The Triangle Dynamic was one of the most interesting to watch unfold and develop on the show. I think the actor who portrayed Stannis did a phenomenal job capturing the stoic yet compassionate side of the character. He acted noble as someone in pursuit of a throne should be, but he was also still humble from his long experience on the battlefield with his men.
They totally misinterpreted ALOT of things and important character beats vital to the story .....and were totally exposed when they didn't have the source material to follow beat for beat. @@sarahshaw7315 So comparing the two works is difficult. If you were to try and draw a direct comparison, the Season 5 finale would be roughly on par with the end of Dance of Dragons. The most major difference for Stannis in the two works is Shireen. By the end of Dance of Dragons, Shireen is alive and well. Given the depiction of Stannis we've been given in the books, the very idea that he would ever acquiesce to having his daughter burnt alive is also laughable. Not only does he genuinely love Shireen but Shireen is also his rightful heir.
Stannis ate rats rather than surrender to the besiegers. Stannis Baratheon is Storm’s End and the realm is going to need that to make the Others FEWER.
I think Stannis wining The Battle of Winterfell (no Bolton raid and Shireen burning) and eventually going on to unite The North would've been better as The Vale and The Tully Rebels would join in Stannis' assault on The Twins and eventual march on King's Landing. Judging by the situation, maybe The Tyrells and Tarlys join Stannis' side and help in taking the city, leading tot the deaths of The High Sparrow, Tommen, Cersei, Jaime, Kevan, and Lancel. Now I know what you're gonna say, where am I going with this? By the time Stannis is coronated, Daenerys would sail to Westeros and when she arrives, it'll be Daenerys vs. Stannis. This is a series where likable and non-likable characters are apart of the same faction and will fight other likable and non-likable characters. When war between the two fire champions breaks out, Daenerys would win but would suffer heavy casualties. Not just that, but men loyal and Stannis and others distrusting of Daenerys would rise up or plot against her, keeping Westeros at war when The Long Night comes. This would've been better than the good v. bad story of the show. This scenario fits in with the thesis of the series.
@@gfilmer7150 I agree with most of what u said but I don't think Denarys would win because by her arrival virtually all 7 kingdoms besides the west would have united under him and they would still have dragon stone so I think it'd be a hard fought war but Stannis would win, all it takes is one arrow or scorpion bolt

If Renly would’ve just put his pride aside and accepted Stannis‘ offer, joined forces and maybe even allied up with Robb, it would be such an epic and cool ending
Stannis was by every law and custom the rightful king. But the world doesn't operate by whats right. Thats why people like Cersei were able to win in the end.
Imagine if Renly wasn’t so attached to being a king himself. If he had just joined up with his brother. They’d have the largest army in the kingdom and likely even win at Kings Landing. He would even be made Stannis’s heir and if he wanted too. Could have simply pulled a Lanester and had his brother killed at some point after the war so that he could be king. He might have had a point. A good soldier might not make a great king. But he makes for a great strategist who can win. After all, Robert was known for being a great warrior and a bad king. (Least by ruling standards) Renly would have so many advantages if he just accepted his brothers right to rule and moved on. Likely even being king himself soon after...
Hell actually just biding his time and building his popularity so Stannis garantees his position as heir and not even killing Stannis because lets be honest, Stannis WOULD be a good king, especially because of his meritocratic to an extant ideas which would match the Tyrells ideals since they are the lesser house compared to their rivals in the Reach, and his anti corruption methods alongside his trusted men would rid of all unwanted external influences for a generation, and then like Robert did stabilise the realm. Renly would quite litteraly be handed over the 7 kingdoms on a silver platter

@@idontgetit3245 I like the sound of that, I really hope George Martin gets around to finishing the books, Stannis was a great character and I’m disappointed on how they got rid of him.
*Show stannis was good* It's a perfect story of a guy who sacrificed everything for duty. There's already rob, ned and jon if you want just good likeable honorable characters. But with Stannis, you couldn't just hate him because he was fair and badass but also not love him cause he was fanatic about his ways and (kinda understandably) followed the red b*tch's god. Shereen was like the last bit of humanity he had left and sacrificing her in his last moments of doom fitted perfectly the vibe on that moment and highlights everything i said before, how he was all about his destiny and not himself. But ultimately loosing to the bolton's it's very game of thrones like despite how sad it is and other characters deserve that revenge more anyway. So it's a good show of both lawful tenacity and how it can lead to demise in the end. Loved every bit of that story from beginning to end.

"He inspires no love or loyalty." Perhaps true but still, Stannis evokes a yearning for improvement in people. A grim realizm and a dedication to prepare for that. People may not love him or feel loyalty towards him but when people look at Stannis they grit their teeth and push through hardship because there is a man who does his duty despite the odds. When people wish an end for it all they look at him and say "Well, he stands up."
Which ironically is a source of true loyalty and love. He is not a man of speeches and flattery like Renly. He is not a man of that inspires and singlehandedly changes the course lf a battle by fighting through it all. He is a man of duty, and in this aspect none matches him, you dont need to love him, unless you are close to him he wont love you either, he wont lead on the battlefield, but he will make sure to lead you to victory for that is his duty, he wont pardon crimes even minor ones but he WILL reward for exceptional bravery and services in return. He is not the king that loves, he isnt the King that fought, he is the King who cared, the true King
That line is quite amusing given Stannis’ men are basically on a suicidal crusade in the north, set to gain literally nothing, all because they believe in their king.
He inspired loyalty but more so from the common soldiers who follow him. The ones who don't care for him are usually those constantly scheming to improve their own position, because they know he doesn't deal in nepotism.

At this point the odds are in the Boltons favour. But Stannis has no thematic reason to lose. GRRM uses death as a plot device. Stannis' death and defeat will mean nothing if he dies at Winterfell. It will mean much more if he dies after taking Winterfell, leaving it vulnerable, or dying when fighting the Others. Look at it from a narrative persepective. Two POVs left in that region. Both with Stannis. There is no POV at Winterfell and Theon isn't going back. You basically have to guess what GRRM is planning, is he doing this to Stannis to write a realistic way for the Boltons to defeat the best commander ever? Or is he trying to make the battle more unpredictable by evening out the numbers instead of making it so obvious Stannis will win. When Stannis showed up at the wall, he had narrative purpose and would realistically destroy house Bolton. Not anymore. But he still has narrative purpose, something the Boltons no longer have. GRRM's characters make mistakes that fit with their developed character traits. There is no possible flaw Stannis has that could make him lose the battle in an interesting way. Plus GRRM is going out of his way to have Roose Bolton send out his armies seperately. This gives Stannis a huge advantage. There are at least 10 incredible ways the battle could play out. All of them are Stannis victories. I'm not saying that because I'm a huge fan. A Bolton victory has no way of being interesting or well written yet. Plus Stannis has already lost enough that even if he gets some flawlessly executed capture of Winterfell it still wouldn't feel like a fairytale ending. Plus Stannis is supposed to burn Shireen at one point. That can't happen until Winterfell is taken. It will also be more effective emotionally if it happens to save the world that rejected him against the others. If Stannis loses the Winterfell battle and dies, there is no reason for him not to have died at Blackwater. Boltons have served more than enough to this story. Stannis is full of potential. If I was writing ASOIAF I'd make him the main character.
Probably the best king of the show. Didn't only promise help for the Wall, but actually went and helped the Night's Watch middle of his war campaign. Which ended up costing him the crown. Without him Westeros would of been in big trouble.
He had not ambition, nor lust for power, nor a desire for wealth. No misguided passion, or a desire to be loved. Only a reluctant appreciation for duty and the rule of law. His claim to the throne was beyond a doubt the only with merit. Eddard Stark died to uphold that lone legitimate claim. His cause was just. The true king of Westeros, now and forever.
There are four types of claim: The chosen heir: Robert chose Joffrey. Ned *changed the will*, but Robert named Joffrey specifically. Sure he would have probably changed that if he knew the truth, but he didn't. Under Westorosi law the chosen heir supercedes the direct bloodline. Joffrey WAS the legitimate king, the Will Stannis waved around was fake. Bloodline: By blood inheritance Stannis the legitimate heir of House Baratheon....but House Baratheon are NOT legitimate heirs to the Iron Throne, as Robert was an usurper and Daenerys (/Jon/Aegon) are the rightful heirs. Incidentally if you're going for genetic rather than legal bloodline you need to count Robert's bastards. A Popular Choice: Renly was the candidate most people *wanted* on the Iron Throne, mostly because while he was a smug prick he wasn't going to start any wars, go an rampant killing sprees, or start dismembering people who help him for not following THE LAW (TM). Force of Arms: Well the Lannisters kinda won, so that goes back to Joffrey. This is the same type used by Robert (even if he claimed Targ blood as justification) and Aegon the Original. Force of Arms probably WOULD have been Renly because he could actually muster the strongest force, but Stannis murdered him for being more popular than him. There is no single claim to power that gives Stannis legitimacy, his claim is essentially: "Force of arms justified my brother becoming king, but now it doesn't count, only strict bloodline order counts. But only legitimatized bloodline so none of my brother's bastards. And we're still keeping his usurpation in place, so not the earlier bloodline that's still around." To justify Stannis as 'the true king' you have to flip between claim types arbitrarily to get the desired result. Dude is by far the only Iron Throne claimant who isn't a fuckwit, this I'll grant you, and this doesn't diminish his character (if anything it adds some depth) but he was very much blinded by a desire to have what he saw as rightfully his. He was opposed to a definite villain yes, but he was a brutal authoritarian who felt he should be on top and lied to himself about why. If he truly didn't care he would have supported Renly - even if the vaunted precedence was in the way, he could have relinquished his claim at any point - as 'King' he had that right. But he was bitter that people loved his brother despite him not being 'worthy'. Edit: I will grant you I don't *think* Stannis doesn't KNOWS Ned faked the will, but this comment is as much about the audience/readers declaring him the true king, and WE know he isn't.
@@Wirrn The chosen heir certainly doesn't supercede direct bloodline in Westerosi culture at all, this did not happen at any point in any of the stories. King Maegor chose Aerea Targaryen as his heir but she was promptly ignored after his death in favour for his cousin Jaehaerys. Later Viserys I's chosen heir was also ignored in favour for his traditional heir. Princess Rhaenyra is remembered as a pretender in Westerosi history while Aegon II is remembered as the rightful monarch (Stannis himself mentions this in the books). The only case to be made is the Great Council to decide Jaehaerys' heir, but that a very specific case in which the entire realm came together when their was no clear heir because they kept dying. And those are only about trueborn heirs of the same dynasty. You also can't complain the will is fake when the circumstances surrounding Joffrey being named heir are fake, Robert named him heir on the basis of being his eldest son, which he wasn't.
@@Wirrn false, everybody knows you have to reach Crown Authority Level 4 to designate your heir, and Bobby was hardly at 3 with his Raucous and Drunkard stress relief traits giving him a permanent penalty on his vassal opinion. Ned Stark being his Just Steward had no sympathy for bastards, especially ones with Inbred traits, while his Arbitrary Spymaster Littlefinger never had a high Opinion of Bobby---a classic blunder. Stannis's high Martial stat was unsuitable for Westeros at the time, as a Diplomacy focused ruler in Renly was preferable for the political landscape.

Can we just stop and appreciate how much they had to do to try to nerf King Stannis in the show? He lost Mel, most of his force, and the occupying force of the bastard of bolton shows up with a cavalry force of the entire North. And then Brienne manages to find him out of the entire battlefield. That battle should have ended with Stannis in the high seat in Winterfell while ramsay’s head rolls across the battlefield.
Don't forget the fact that he had 6000 men, half of which are horses (3000), only for the sell swords (which we know are 2000, well, 1500, since the storm crows had already left, as when the KIng was at the IB he said he had 4000 men) to take all the horses, leaving him with 4000-4500 men and 0 horses, which would still be enough to fight and perhaps defeat that Bolton cavalry charge. But, let's be generous. When the general says half of the men deserted, he says all the sellswords with all the horses, that would still leave the King with 3000 men roughly (2000 sellswords + 1000 stormlander/dragonstone men) Then, somehow, when he marches on Winterfell he only has 1200 men. He should still have 3000 men!. Let's say the cold count killed 500. He STILL should have AT LEAST 2500 men. But the dumbass writers realized that even if King Stannis had cold hungry men, they're still veterans and 2500 men could still give the 2300 Bolton cavalry a run for their money. So they just 'misplace' 1300 men, so Stannis could lose.
Exactly, the better writing would hv been Jon joining the wildings and nights watch with him to liberate the North from the Boltons, they fight side by side and win the war together. However Stannis badly injured during battle will rule for few months and then pass on. This is where the forces come together and name Jon King of seven kingdoms. It is with this that he could bargain with Denerrys without bending the knee.
7:23 this part where you show all the situations where houses refused to support Stannis was so well done. The music and the lines nearly made me shed a tear. He's a man of duty and honour spurned by those who legally owe him allegiance. So sad to watch :( Great video.
"We march to victory or we march to defeat" I will never forget those words... Stannis risked everything for what he believed and in the end he was the rightful king and died like a man branding his sword and defending his honor!
His ego and arrogance got him killed. He thought he was destined and couldn’t lose. They really could’ve done more with his character. He had a disappointing end
It hurts my heart how much Stannis went through for the greater good & did nothing but suffer even though he sacrificed & went against his own will at times to win. And he never sought the iron throne out of ambition but because he believed it was his duty
In Braavos you may hear that I am dead. It may even be true. You shall find my sellswords nonetheless." The knight hesitated. "Your Grace, if you are dead - "" - you will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne. Or die in the attempt
Stannis: "Let them come... I hold the ground to my advantage." Theon: "The ground... Here, in this small village. You have no high ground, no walls, you have no advantage here." Stannis: "Yet."

It's not a coincidence that once he died the show went down hill. I love going through the dvds only watching stannis scenes, they're the best storyline by a mile. If you see his hair in season 2 and then 5 there's such a difference! Poor bugger.
I can't help but agree. As bad ass as season 6 was its writing kind of sucked and it was mostly only really compelling because it managed to scrap all the storylines season 5 ruined. I was hoping that stanis would make it to the south at about the same time as Danny and that would sort of become each other's antagonist. But instead Stanis just died with about the satisfaction and narrative impact of a wet fart. All because I guess the writers thought the season needed to kill someone unexpectedly so those assholes watching at the bar would have something to cry about.
@@youtubecommenter37 yeah, it wasn't enough they killed him so unceremoniously, they had to completely ruin his storyline and character by having him do something so unbelievably stupid and out of character.

She talks about honor and justice but is genuinely stumped when Jamie questions what she would of done in his shoes... to make it worse she completely skips Stannis just to throw Renly on the throne because... she personally likes him. I didn’t like how Arthur Dayne defended a clear tyrant but at least he was a man of his word at the end.
If Brienne were old enough to fight during Robert's Rebellion, she most likely would've been fighting for The Mad King, a man who burned people alive for his own sick pleasure.

Renley was a fool not to take the deal that Stannis offered him.
Indeed. His claim was based on Tyrell greediness.
Yeah that was really gay of Renley
Renly would have lost all the Tyrell support if he allied with Stannis. Ik that I’m asking very late after you commented and I should probably search your myself, would you (or anyone else) mind telling me what Stannis in the books was like and what changed?
I wish Stannis won.
@@gaiusmanus7959 Dorne, The Westerlands, The Iron Islands, and maybe even The Tyrells would join Daenerys. I don’t think she’d land on Dragonstone but instead, loop down to Sunspear. While Stannis might win against Daenerys, I think him loosing would work better thematically and would be a nice parallel to the real life history that Game of Thrones is based on. Plus, it would fit both characters arcs really well.
@@gfilmer7150 why would Dorne, the westerlands, the Iron Islands, or Tyrrells join denarys? I think it's much more likely the story goes how it was with the lannisters killing the Tyrrells, the iron Islands joining the lannisters (westerlands) and they'd probably be too stubborn to pick a side and try to win using dirty tactics maybe Dorne would join denarys but that's the only kingdom I see doing it
@@gaiusmanus7959 Dornish still blame The Baratheons for Elia and are Targaryen Loyalists, Yara and Theon were already gonna make that alliance to depose Euron regardless of who sat The Throne, The Tyrells are opportunists and would see that Stannis should be deposed (they only used him to save Margaery and Loras), and then Tyrion would be Daenerys’ Hand of The Queen meaning she’d secure The Westerlands through his name.
If Renly would’ve just put his pride aside and accepted Stannis‘ offer, joined forces and maybe even allied up with Robb, it would be such an epic and cool ending

There is something Shakespearean about Stannis.
He's the ultimate tragic hero
He wasn’t the man who was expected, nor was he the man many wanted. But he was the man the people needed. The King That Cared.
Nice and correct.
(Least by ruling standards)
Renly would have so many advantages if he just accepted his brothers right to rule and moved on.
You have done me a great service. I shan't forget that. When i take my rightful throne you will be rewarded for your service, as will everyone who has done their duty to the realm.
My Lord,

Stannis was a fascinating character. I hate to see how the show ruined his potential and got rid of him in the most stupid way. I'm looking forward to seeing what he'll do in the books. Thanks for the great video.
Yeah the show did him dirty. But I like the theory that stanis truly was Azor Ahai, but he failed somehow when he let melisandre kill Shereen and the rest of the show was sort of the bad ending of A Song of Ice and Fire. And now when we see the true ending in the books it'll be so much more powerful because we know where the story could have gone.
I think the way he died was fine, it was him disgracing himself that was bad.
@@sakurasfish2115 His arc was rushed and there were so much that wasn’t fleshed out because D&D had an obvious bias against the character. He basically got the Daenerys treatment
I hoped until the very end that Stannis had survived his faithful encounter with Brienne. He was one of my favorite GOT characters. And he often appeared to be the only one who truly deserved to be King of Westeros.
He is not dead
In the books he is still very much alive and if you believe the Night Lamp Theory and the Great Northern Conspiracy it looks like he is set to take Winterfell.
how could he be your favourite character? he sacrificed his own daughter to win the 7 kingdoms.

Let’s just put that to bad writing… actually it IS bad writing. Blame the ones who made the show, not the character. Besides in the books he didn’t do that.
Brienne probably tried to kill him but due to his power to turn his body into steel, brienne couldnt cut his head. Then he probably got merciful and let brienne who was pissing herself live because a real mannis doesnt hit woman
Everyone keeps telling Stannis that nobody loves him, and nobody will serve him, yet his men followed him further and with less than anybody else. Even Jon Snow couldn't earn such loyalty.
I like the fact that Stannis only fought in the War of the Five Kings because it was not that he wanted the Iron Throne for himself, but it was by the laws of Westeros that he is indeed next in line. Such dedication to duty is what made me bend the knee to Stannis the Mannis

@@burakhan9694 They are not the same. Both were created to guard against The Others, but over the years the Watch forgot what their mission was, and that resulted in abandoned castles as well as conflicts with the Wildlings.
The wall defends itself, by shedding and by magic, but the Watch would have been better off not fighting that battle at all.
Even he was in the middle of the war of the 7 kings, Stannis still care for humanity and support the night's watch.
Stephen Dillane took the role only for the paycheck, and yet he gave one of the best performances of the entire show

@@coldhands2802 GRRM doesn't write the way you think. He doesn't just kill those "good guys" for the sake of it. They all died because of decisions they made using their inner flaws. GRRM set it up to look like realistically, Stannis stands no chance (I won't spoil ADWD but your mind will 100% change if you pay attention. He has every disadvantage. Stannis' downfall would just feel forced and boring, unlike the Red wedding which pissed everyone off but is probably the most iconic scene in the series.
@@lykastannis7662
I know the way he writes.. His books are the only ones I've been reading for the past few months.. It's never a fairy tale happy ending.
@@coldhands2802 What makes you think King Stannis is some classic fairytale hero? There's actually a surprisingly big Bolton fanbase and many Stannis haters in general who want him to lose.
He is the most underrated character and underrated performance in Game of Thrones.
There are four types of claim:
The chosen heir: Robert chose Joffrey.
Popular Choice: Renly was the candidate most people *wanted* on the Iron Throne, mostly because while he was a smug prick he wasn't going to start any wars, go an rampant killing sprees, or start dismembering people who help him for not following THE LAW (TM).
And we're still keeping his usurpation in place, so not the earlier bloodline that's still around."
To justify Stannis as 'the true king' you have to flip between claim types arbitrarily to get the desired result.
There was no way he was gonna change his Succession Law without approval from his Powerful Vassals' support. Ned Stark being his Just Steward had no sympathy for bastards, especially ones with Inbred traits, while his Arbitrary Spymaster Littlefinger never had a high Opinion of Bobby---a classic blunder.

@@youtubecommenter37 yeah, it wasn't enough they killed him so unceremoniously, they had to completely ruin his storyline and character by having him do something so unbelievably stupid and out of character.
Stannis’ story always had my full attention. Oddly enough he’s the character I was most fascinated by throughout the seasons. I was pretty bummed when he died but I will forever quote his last words. “The Boltons have women fighting for them?” Lol 😂 “go on … do your duty”
My word. . .you have given me a hole new perspective on a character that I never really appreciate before.
The work and passion you have put in to this tribute is plain to see and I am in awe at your dedication and talent.
Bravo!
Thank you so much :)
this is the best and the most complete tribute video done in the GOT history. hats off to you and stannis
This is the best Game of Thrones video in existence
True Heir, true King, a Man of Duty and Honour
Game of Thrones is so well written that a 'side character' like Stanis can have an entire series about his story arc.
Holding hope for Stannis in the books!
Everyone’s talking about Stannis but this one of the most coherent edits I’ve ever seen. Grade A work man
Ned died for doing his duty. Stannis died for doing his duty. “Do your duty-” Stannis Baratheon
Stannis was the rightful king in my opinion. He had the best claim, and I think he could have made a decent ruler of the 7 kingdoms.
I agree with you big bird g
Stannis is a commander! That sentence gave me the shivers🥶
So many missed opportunities with this character. To think we could've seen Stannis vs The Night King.
That would've been the most appropriate ending of the show. Stannis the commander slaying night king.
@@AzharAli-nk4rpprobably losing to the WW. But that’s the only appropriate ending for him Imo
Had to admit while watching the show, I never give this side of Stannis a thought. Thanks for the video. I absolutely enjoy watching these clips of the show. ❤❤❤
this is the greatest edit ive ever seen!
Mad how Stannis had the most legitimate claim to the throne. Loved his character.
he is the #rightfulking
This made me hate Brienne of Tarth so much. She’s soo hypocritical!
Hypocritical you mean?
If Brienne were old enough to fight during Robert's Rebellion, she most likely would've been fighting for The Mad King, a man who burned people alive for his own sick pleasure.
@@gfilmer7150 oh definitely she would of been sooo infatuated with Rhaegar and use that as an excuse for slathering people
@@terellchapman8737 She probably would've ended up Barristan, surrendering after The Trident or Hell, even later. Or, she'd fight to the last like Arthur Dayne.
If you haven’t noticed a trend
Every good and honorable and just character of the show is killed
Ned Stark
Jon Snow
Ser Barristan Selmy
Robb Stark
Catelyn Stark
And of course Stannis
This proves a point to us that this world isn’t just or honorable it is ruled by evil and vile men who themselves are ruled by power and so kill the honorable men
He was the most honorable and true character next to Ned
He recognized Ned as the most honorable man he had ever met
And that’s why he came to help his son
Even though he was a Bastard son
He was one of the only senior military commanders of Westeros
Second Only to TWYIN LANNISTER
“Fear old men in a profession in which men die young......”
I hated how he died and what they did to his character especially when in the books he’s a genuine badass
This is by far the BEST edit of him I’ve ever seen and I can’t wait to see more of what you do
You forgot to add “I brutally sacrificed my only daughter with a false promise of victory” to his resumé
Always the just and fair will end up better than the liars and traitors, not just in stories, but in real life as well. You can see that all evil characters die in way horrible ways than good honorable ones (most of them surviving). Tywin got killed by his son in the most pathetic way, Ramsay slaughtered by his hounds, Cersey crushed by rocks etc etc, most if not all good characters have a clean or heroic death
@@Bingo_the_Pug
That’s not in the books.
barristan had scant honour
if he did he'd have took the black after failing at the trident
he failed to see the twinsest
on roberts death he should have surported Stannis
nope, he crawls back to surport the last Targ....because???
he could have done that 16 years ago, but a comfty job in the kings guard looked easier
@@Bingo_the_Pug In the books the red lady actually told him to do this, he said essentially.
"No, Pray harder."
I commend you on an excellently put together montage.
The look of resignation on his face as he accepts his fate when Boltons army are charging at him. He knew the gig was up but went out on his shield fighting with his men. Warrior.
Stannis was my favorite character, I felt incomplete watching GOT knowing he was gone.
