One of the things I like about this is that there's an allowance to be better and a forgiveness of mistakes. Woolie has known Pat for years, and knows he has no hate, so when Pat says something truly fucked, he gives Pat a second to hear himself and reach the realization on his own. It really illustrates what good friends they are. And its a good template, maybe, to what kind of good friends we could all be to eachother. Assuming that people are doing harm or committing offense purposefully is rarely the right answer. Laugh off the shock, give the benefit of the doubt, let them see reason, and most people will be on an even keel. They just didn't phrase something correctly, or they're miserable at speaking in groups, or they're the kind of person who doesn't think in articulated words and just says stuff and hears it for the first time with you.
