  • It was the best experience of her life. In this episode of "Props Clear," Windracers Fleet Manager Rebecca Toomey talks about her time in Antarctica with the ULTRA drone.
UK-based Windracers worked closely with the British Antarctic Survey flying the drone nearly 450 miles collecting data during the flight to help analyze environmental changes. The ULTRA has a special autopilot system called Masterless, which reduces single points of failure. One cool fact about the ULTRA--it's designed to fit in a 20-foot container.
Part of Toomey's job is ground control station operator, which involves planning and uploading the mission. Toomey also talked about living at the Rothera Research Station, including being fed five times a day to keep warm, and getting lots of gear to withstand the conditions.
