Hi Gary, I'd love to share one trick with Trackpad which I learned from my office IT guy long ago, which is: dragging around any window (folder, safari, etc.) or any file with three fingers. To do this, we go to 'Accessibility' (in System Preferences/Setting), then to 'Pointer Control' where we'll find 'Trackpad Options'. Then, we select 'Enable dragging' and choose 'three fingers drag'. So, on a macbook, if we don't use a mouse, we don't need to hold a corner of trackpad with our left-hand finger and dragging thing with another finger on our right hand. We just use three fingers to drag around. I find enabling this very helpful 🙂 I learned this trick long time ago, so I'm not sure if there's better trick to do this better now, and if this still works in newer macbooks.

I now have the second generation for at least three years, and it continues to be great. But a few of the tips you’ve shared were some serious knowledge to try and apply. As ever, many thanks!
Apple's trackpads are best in class by a lightyear. Even my fiancé, who doesn't typically get along with trackpads, has no problem with it. Normally you'd opt for a mouse with a desktop machine for the precision. However, since first picking up and trying the magic trackpad it is forever my go to choice for any new Mac. Smart zoom does actually have a lot of utility. It just depends on context. The best usage case is to quickly zoom into a body of text. Two finger double-tap with automatically zoom in to the optimal level, while repeating the actions returns to your previous state. It basically just needs something a bit more specific to focus in on.

Terrific video today on a feature that we all use so often. What I learned here is that I could increase the tracking speed. Total oversight on my part for not thinking about searching for this remedy. Now I can track much quicker-which is what I prefer. Keep up the great work! Hi Gary. Love your videos always. I always used the trackpad of my MacBook Pro and I liked it. I just bought the external magic trackpad (you advised it over the mouse), I’m not getting used to it yet as scroll speed needs to be on fastest for it to be efficient for me, also the trackpad is so big that you can’t rest your hand and needs to be in the air always which causes fatigue. Also distance is further from the macbook. Anyway, great explanation however would’ve like to know what are your preferences for the speed, clicking sound..etc
I love the trackpad on my MacBook Air. When I got it I swore I would use a travel mouse with it, since I've always hated trackpads on windows machines, but it's so damn good I started using it and never used the mouse once. Shame that I don't like the standalone Magic Trackpad as much on my iMac. Not sure why, but I just can't get used to it and end up using a mouse with that Mac. I think it stands too tall for wrist comfort-I just can't get comfortable with it.
One thing I would love apple to implement is to give us hte option for one tap to act as secondary click, and click to act as the primary click, and vice versa
Gary, a quick question from a newbie to MACOS. Is it possible to sync some of these settings between two different computers? For example my Air and my mini? Both are use the same apple cloud account? Thanks for your consideration.
Gary. When using a second screen and opening a new window it is too large so you pull in the edges to fit the screen. Is there any way of fixing that setting so that when you reopen it, it will automatically fit the screen again without resizing it over and over?
Okay but what no-one ever seems to point out is that the primary "left" click area is really small unless you change the Secondary click to "bottom right". This makes your track pad much easier to use as the usual clicking area becomes way bigger.
Great video as always. I have an issue with Zoom in or Out (pinch to zoom) and I've seen that others on the Apple forum who have it as well. For some reason, it stops working after a time and I have to go back into trackpad settings and toggle it off and then back on to get it working again. I have a fully updated M1 Macbook Air and it happens with all apps where you can zoom. It did it with Monterey too and it drives me crazy. Unfortunately, I use it all day, every day, so it's a big issue for me. Obviously, I have something conflicting in my settings, but I cannot figure it out. If you have any thoughts, I'd appreciate it.
Hi Gary, I have Mac mini M1. I wanted to connect 5.1 surround home theatre with my Mac mini. I can use 3.5mm headphone jack but it will output only in 2.0 stereo channel. I need a 5.1 output from my Mac mini to my home theatre Logitech z906 Dolby digital. Please suggest
Gary, to pair an external keyboard does it need to be through a cable? (As I just the manual that came with my trackpad). Or is it fine just to connect it through looking in Bluetooth devices?
I really am not a fan of the large trac pad on the new MacBook Pro. I am constantly having to undo some typing because the cursor flies all over when I touch the pad inadvertently. Any solution other than using a mouse is appreciated. If I noticed it before buying I would never have bought it. Thanks for all your great tips!!
It takes a little time to get used to it, but you will eventually find it happens less and less. Make sure you have "Tap To Click" turned off until then.

Are you familiar with the pinch to zoom issue in Chrome where the zoom is only initiated once your fingers have already travelled a few inches? This non-instant feedback is quite annoying Can anyone replicate the issue or does somebody have a solution for that? I am using the built-in trackpad of an M1 MacBook Air
I have the same Macbook and my zoom turns on and off at will in Chrome, Safari etc... To get it to work, I have to go back into trackpad setting and toggle zoom off and then on again. I agree, it's extremely annoying.
My Magic trackpad "lags" or takes longer than it should to start moving the cursor when using it over Bluetooth. When I move my finger and the trackpad is "awake" everything is fine, but when I rise my finger for some time and then scroll or move the mouse again it lags a bit before doing the actual command which is very annoying. To me is like it enters into a "sleep" or "low power mode" to save battery until it wakes up and starts working again, sometimes is less than a second but annoying nonetheless. This behavior doesn't happen when connected over USB. Only over bluetooth.
@@mohammedal-harrasi5334 If it is only over wireless then I would suspect interference. Maybe you have a lot of competing wireless devices in your area.
Apple should hire you to do tutorials on how to use their products. Starting pay should be 1 million a year. Plus stock options.

natural scrolling took me at least one month to get used to, but now is soooo nature that I have problems to use windows :D

Set to "Two Fingers" and then you can use your whole trackpad for a regular click. I think that is how the vast majority have it set.

Im on a Studio with track pad. Im using a Stock trading app and that is PC based. How do I get the "Right-Click" function?
Look in System Settings, Trackpad for Secondary Click. See how you have it set.

Depends on your Trackpad. If it is available, it would be in these settings.
