The reason the BMW inline 6's sound so different is because the turbo manifold design is totally different because of the massive slant on the engine and the uneven header design. It gives a deeper, more raspy sound. But you're right, it doesn't sound as good, it's not as "clean" in the sound. You just dont have the same room, the shocktower is in the way of the piping. If you stand up the BMW motor and make a manifold with the same design as a JZ you can barely tell a difference in sound. Seen it done a few times at drift events in Europe. So if it's just the sound specifically you're after you don't need the JZ and pay JZ prices for everything. Obviously JZ is better at other things, but lets be honest majority of people swap them for the sound.

I just like my built M52 more than 2J's. Probably for the same reasons I don't own LS's though too many fan boys. It's also far easier to take the trans off and then the engine out. My M52 fully loaded with cast SPA T3 manifold and HX35 turbo on it weighed 418 lbs.
I'm kinda sad to see the bmw motor go but I'm happy you will get actual seat time. On a side note put the hood in service position it's a lot easier to pull a motor with it straight up
Alberto you dont need to remove the steering shaft at all. even with M5X/S5X you should remove the front end of the car (the radiator and radiator support) you made your life extra difficult by not removing the radiator support. motor slides right out

thats the most difficult engine removal i've seen on an e36 dude, for the 5 minutes it takes to pull the nose cone and cross support for the rad you would have had it out in about 3 minutes. be easier for lining stuff up on the 2jz aswell. interested to see you boost a 2jzge as you say there a cheap base engine, so worth doumenting for us home lurking mechanics. good luck dude!

2jzge vvti rods are much weaker compared to non vvti and the head studs will only handle 8-12 psi safely despite this the 2jzGe head flows much better than a gte and 1jz so keen to see what’s the plan for it

You could have removed the nose off your BMW and it's really easy to pull the engine. Also when Adam asked about the oil cooler. If You coat the oil cooler and intercooler with Cerakoat it will disburse the heat a lot fast than without.

Stock rods on a 2JZGE will probably hold power up to 500hp anything after that will probably cause detonation

The 3.23 diff was available in open and lsd. The open was just a base manual diff used in a lot of cars. The lsd 3.23 was only available in the m3.

Be careful of the ge vvti bottom ends... they have weak rods and tend to break around the 400-450 whp Mark
he should just find a 1JZGTE Block
