    I got stoned and stumbled onto this channel like 3 months ago and now I find myself deeply concerned about the well-being of a guy named Craig who lives in Scotland, whom I've never met, whilst watching him corral 50 bulls. The internet is weird, fam.

    The face that bull was making is called the Flehmen reponse. It helps pheromones travel to their vomeronasal, a.k.a. Jacobsen's organs (basically the thing that helps them suss out pheromone smells). Normally you see animals with those organs drinking the urine of mates to figure out if they're in estrus or not. I'm not sure if the bull was practicing, trying to figure out which of them is higher in the pecking order, if he likes bulls instead/too, or some other reason.

    • @robingutierrez1285
      @robingutierrez1285 4 года назад +14

      Big breeders, those who collect semen you see bulls do this all the time, they use bulls to tease each other. And all of the male species with a few exceptions will do this.

    From what I learned is that the bull is sizing the other bull up by "drinking" urine. He can detect hormones through special receptors in his upperpalletr in his mouth. Thats why he was making a funny face. That way he can determine wether he is stronger for the cows. Bloodline of the strongest will continue..

      Actually, it's way more about comfort of the animal than doing a beautiful job. It's better for the animal to have and ugly but functional foot rather than a beautiful one.
      Yeah it's good to have both beauty and functionality, but the later takes priority.

    It amazes me how much horn you remove to a damaged hoof and yet the animal walks away pretty much fine. It really is a science, what you do. You have a wonderful outlook on life considering the knocks you've had early on. It's important to understand the one's who hurt us, through their hurt, try to forgive and learn from the experience. It is all part of the ritual our rams look like they're pulling monkey impressions when you first let them out as they curl their lips up to scent the air then while the young gun is running all over the field, the more experienced waits for the ewes to come to him, a quick sniff, a "How you doing" rumble rather than baa, a little nudge, sniff of pee, another nudge and then down to business. No boxes of chocolates, flowers or even a drink.
