      Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed it! Your dad is not exaggerating about MJ's M25 performance being a *sonic boom.*
      I'm 47 and can't put into words how this performance affected everyone. There are a few defining moments in history that so impacted you that you remember exactly where you were when it happened. I remember exactly where I was when 911 happened, and I remember exactly where I was when M25 aired. It was generational. My grandmother, mother, aunt, uncle, and siblings were all glued to the TV mesmerized by this performance. I remember being at school the next day and it was all that anyone talked about, including the teachers. No one had ever seen MJ perform like this. The song, the glove, the moonwalk, the spin, his new look, the mystique... everything was groundbreaking. I fell in love that night.
      Also, this performance catapulted Thriller to selling a million copies per week. *Not streams,* but actual *hard copies* where you had to drive to the record store, stand in line, then pay $14 to $16.

    I say this to my niece, 1983 it was special, when thriller came out, I was 8 years old, and I promise you to this day I have not forgotten about that. It was a moment in time to be alive. I'm sorry you missed it young lady. 😢

    Well it was Katherine & Berry are the only ones that got him to even CONSIDER doing it, because he needed people to see him as a MAN & a solo artist! He was genius to insist doing the New Music, because its rare that people can transition like that, from one sound to a whole different sound that not one person was ever doing, he took his inspirations & created his own sound! BUT PEOPLE FORGET Billie Jean was already out & the video before Motown 25 so for me i wasnt surprised because he does this routine in the video, that I had saw a lot, i was just excited to see him live because i recorded EVERYTHING he did even interviews whatever & Katherine's jacket made the night Magical lol👑Rih KOP WE❤U 🌍

    I love watching you and your father share moments like this and hearing his perspective. I have such fond memories myself of watching the entire Motown 25 special with my aunt and cousins! And of course seeing Michael perform was indeed the highlight of the show! Seeing him do the moonwalk as a child was MEZMERIZING! And it’s still magical to this day! My aunt actually bought one of the very 1st VHS releases of this and we played the tape over and over and over again! Of course by the time I came along this show and performance was history. But for me, it was all brand new!!!! A few years ago there was a reissue of the show on DVD with a huge boxset that came with additional footage and interviews from the producers of the show. It is my prized possession now! There were so many great legendary moments from the show overall but Michael’s performances really made it something extraordinary.
    Btw, I’m not sure if you knew but there are 3 new Funko Pops of Michael coming soon. Idk if you collect them or if you’d even be interested. But I thought it would be cool to let you know if you didn’t already. I have a small collection and have been dying to add MJ to it!!!!

    If you were an adult, or even in H.S. when Motown 25 was broadcasted, you essentially grew up listening to Motown, and the J5 were every little kids (now in H.S.) favorite group. We loved ALL OF IT (Temps, Tops, Supremes etc.), but AS KIDS the J5 was our favorites. Also this was at the beginning of Cable TV which very few people had, so 95% of the home audience still only had network TV to watch, just a few channels to choose from, so it seemed like the whole world was watching Motown 25. We loved the music, grew up on it, so this was very nostalgic for us too. Anyway, instead of talking about the show, which your father already did so well, I just want to mention the aftermath. I was in H.S. at the time and without a doubt my WHOLE SCHOOL was raving about it afterwards. It was literally the only thing everyone wanted to talk about, and of all the great performances, without a doubt the J5 then MJ doing Billie Jean and the Moonwalk stole the show. We could not believe our eyes. It was as if he was actually gliding on air, backwards!! 👀

  • @ertfgghhhh
    @ertfgghhhh 8 месяцев назад +2

    I disagree.
    The jacksons were not broken up. They had just finished dropping the triumph live album. Michael announced the breakup of the jacksons WHILE they were on the victory tour. Motown 25 was the first time Jermaine had been with the brothers since they had left motown. The jacksons were still big at that time. The triumph hit album was dropped in 1980. The triumph live album was dropped in 1981. And thriller was released in 1982. The jacksons were still big.

    • @ertfgghhhh
      @ertfgghhhh 3 месяца назад +1

      @@kenj280 it is because most are not REALLY lovers of MJ. They are lovers of his product/image after "bad". They ride the clout wave, and not secretly despise his origins. In a nutshell, These people love black music but not black people. Mj would had been nothing without his brothers. And "off the wall" was not his first hit solo album.

    I appreciate this introduction of "Motown 25" to a younger generation, but what the dad said about how MJ danced with his brothers in this show (and it being "different" because of "Billie Jean" being a huge hit) just ISN'T TRUE. I saw the Jackson 5 in concert when I was 4, the Jacksons at 12, 14 (twice), 17 (twice), and I flew home to L.A. from college in Tennessee TWICE to see the last two dates of the Bad Tour (MJ got sick in November and the last two dates were rescheduled for January.) Michael Jackson ALWAYS had his own dance moves apart from what his brothers did - and he had his dancers stand-in for them on the throwback songs after he went solo (with mics that probably weren't even connected). It always made sense in the context of the concerts because he was the lead singer, and it's always been normal for guys in R&B groups to step out front; MJ just put his unique spin on it whenever he was singularly center stage - ALWAYS - even when he was in elementary school. Whatever the dad identified as "Billie Jean" moves when MJ was doing his own thing in this performance was ONLY true because that's what he recognized as MJ's current dance style at the time of the taping in 1983. I DEFINITELY saw some stuff he did out front from the 70's and the Triumph Tour in '81.

    The reason why we'll never see another "Michael Jackson" hardly has anything to do with talent.
    Labels just won't find a person who was trained the way Michael was, Beyonce is the closest because can't nobody do what Beyonce does in those 5-inch stilletos.
    Anyway, we definitely have someone more talented out there than a Michael or a Beyonce, it's a matter of finding that individual, which is almost impossible.

    Your father story is off. Thriller was already out, and Billie Jean video and Beat it video was out , and was huge. Then Motown 25 hit and Thriller began to sell like crazy

      Thriller music video came out after Motown 25. The show aired May 1983 and video premiered December 1983. Might’ve been confusing but when he said thriller coming out but, he was talking about the video
      Thanks for watching !

      @@MJFANGIRLTV I stated that Billie Jean and Beat it video was already out by Motown 25. Both had been number 1 on Billboard by the time of Motown 25!! Thriller the Album was popular and then sold like crazy after Motown 25. Since I was alive and my brother is the biggest MJJ fan, I remember it like it was yesterday.
      When the Video for thriller came out, the album began to sell a million copies a week!
