After this medley with his brothers he performed Billie Jean and did the moonwalk for the first time.
So people reacted like this because of how amazing the Moonwalk was?
Bloodxk they’d never really seen it before. It already existed but wasn’t main stream. If I’m not mistaken the Jacksons saw someone do it in Europe and MJ adopted it
Nick Jonas ah ok but you know when in a lot of concerts when he did the moonwalk people makennoise, so it was really rare for me when people made noise in Motown for the first moowalk
Bloodxk Well this was the first time the original Jackson 5 performed together since 1975/76 after Jermaine left the group.
Otw made MJ a superstar and Billie Jean was a hit song.
@Hernan heyman Wow litreally nobody knew that 😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Fun fact... when Michael offered his mic to Jermaine, Jermaine had signaled to Michael that his mic wasn’t working. That’s why he gave him his mic and they put their arms around each other. It was a touching moment because Michael didn’t want to do this show and was separating himself from the brothers at the time. There was tension among the brothers but was talked into it by his mother, who he adored, and Barry Gordy, so Michael made the deal that he would do it as long as he could perform Billie Jean as this was his breakout moment as a solo artist. Gordy allowed it even though Michael was with a different record label by then.
Wow....yep..he was so sweet although he never really liked Jermaine:))..Yep he was a gent
I caught that and always wondered...Thanks for the confirmation
@@fujisamasensei7314Him and Jermaine were extremely close stop spreading negative lies like that. Jermaine was the one holding him down throughout all his court battles
That’s cuz the other brothers mics weren’t on and lip synced the performance. Mikes was the only one on therefore Jermaine had to use that mic
He've performed billie jean live at the bad tour at yokohama and at wembley. If you want to see bad tour live at wembley or dangerous toir live in Bucarest you can find it on his channel for a short time, only for coronavirus
matt it’s not only for corona
The Jacksons such an amazing group. But Michael is the greatest.
Thanks
The Jacksons is the Greatest musical group of all time! Period.
Michael was really special and not just as a performer, as a human being. I wonder if in the future people will look back and say "what the hell happened?"
He was an always will be a wonderful human being. Makes me angry hoe people hurt him 💜🙏
Well, we do now
Annie are you ok:: At present and in the future, people will realize how the tabloids, journalists, news reporter, magazines, tv people, etc. twisted his words and lied about his life. He was HUMAN, made mistakes just like everyone else but his mission was to share love to all races, age groups, etc. and love and care for the earth--which he faithfully did. What happened? He fulfilled his life's calling!!!
R.I.P Michael~~~
Omg she has the prettiest smile...my heart melts..
This is amazing 💓. I was 12 yrs old when I stayed up to watch this show and instantly became a fan. Still am 💓. I was lucky to see Michael in my hometown Liverpool England in Aintree in 88 then Leeds in 92. I went on to see Janet in 90 then The Jackson’s 2 yrs ago. Love them 💖
Real talk
Soo Young my king mj here very bubbly Lovely sweet innocent as always❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🥰2020energetic ever 👏👏👏👏
When you mentioned Stevie Wonder you reminded me that he is a cousin of the Jacksons on Katherine's side as well as Tracy Chapman and Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar. Confirmed by Janet in a radio interview she had a year and a half ago.
Good live billie jean performances:
Billie jean live bad tour in yokohoma
Billie jean live dangerous tour in oslo
Billie jean live dangerous tour in bucharest
@@leodejongful I prefer his dangerous tour
Pls react to Michael Jackson 30th anniversary with his brothers.
Up
Leo WTF is your Problem ? It‘s still a great performance. it is really sad as soon as you are old you are treated like garbage. He wasn‘t drugged at that evening. He was high on painkillers at the 7th September Show but not at the 10th September Show which i am talking about.
Great show. I especially love "Can You Feel It" and "The Way You Make Me Feel" from that evening.
Leo the 9/10 was a really good performance.
@@leodejongful wrong one
Please react to Billie jean at Wembley 1988. It's 100% live, and you'll see the evolution of his Billie jean performance. Everything the singing and dancing
Featuring also "Stop the love you save"
They are so good 👍 Much as MJ lip synced many songs later on, this is one medley he always did live (usually minus "Never can say goodbye"). And yes, Billie Jean was not live but it was nonetheless MJs most famous and iconic performance ever.
Valerie fantastic your beatiful smile when you hear Mike
Hi Valerie I love your reaction videos a lot.. I remember watching this performance by Michael Jackson and his brothers, it’s brilliant. At this point the Thriller album was released and Michael was incredible but it was awesome to see him perform with his brothers and of course his solo performance of Billie Jean was just magnificent!!
its crazy ive watched that billie jean performance many times but i only recently realised he was lipsyncing, just because of how legendary the performance is. Yes he did sing it live on the Bad Tour (wembley and yokohoma, not sure if he did for all the dates).
Riri's wife x My grandmother was at that Billie Jean performance and she she said it was the most amazing thing she has ever seen
Billie Jean was sung live in all tours apart from history tour and 30th-anniversary concert, but during the history and 30th-anniversary concert he did sing the adlibs live
@@kobebryant24861 thats so amazing! she is very lucky
He was asked to lip sync he wanted to do it live
@@kobebryant24861 the band couldn’t perform Billie Jean because it would have sounded different, at least that’s what they said. He then sang Billie Jean live in all Victory Tour, Bad Tour, Dangerous tour concerts and / until the Royal Concert in 1996.
Hope you can react to Michael performing with The Jacksons at the 30th anniversary concert! it’s so amazing to see them perform this songs together almost 20 years later for the last time! And it’s all live too!
I'm always excited to watch your vocal reaction video's of Michael Jackson. You are so detailed oriented on your critiques . I love it!
6:55 For some reason when Jermaine sings "comfort" I chuckle every time...
I would love to collaborate with you on one of your Michael Jackson reactions :) Love your channel so much!
Michael Jackson sang Billie Jean Live often. This one was his first time and he lip synced. From 1984 to mid 1996 he always sang it live, but after that he started Lip syncing again because he didn't have enough power anymore to sing and dance at the same time. He always saved the live singing and dancing for the Wanna be startin' something performance.
In some performance of billie Jean at the dangerous tour he was playback
matt No not at the Dangerous Tour you mean HIStory Tour.
@@cadenrausch741 yep, and HIStory started 1996. As I said mid 1996 he started Lip syncing. In fact the Last time he Sang Billie Jean Live was July 16, 1996 in Brunei. After that the Lip syncing started, Which really is in the Middle of the year in 1996. (what the frick, I searched on google and it said that HIStory just started in september... July is before September... whaaat.) But still July 16, 1996 was the last Live singing from Billie Jean.
ben ben I didn't mean you I answered matt's comment.
@@cadenrausch741 I know 😂 I just wanted to make My own comment more clear and I wanted to agree with you. Because yes it wasn't dangerous, it was HIStory.
What A Day!
This is my third time watching this and I loved the, "ohhh's", "oouuu's" and "aahhh's" coming from your heart for the Jackson 5!!! Thank you! ~~R.I.P. MICHAEL~~
I'm curious as to what you think of his voice from the album Invincible, which was his final album, released in 2001, or his 30th anniversary concert, also from 2001. In fact, in that concert they do this exact same medley. I swear his voice never seemed to change between the early 1980s and early 2000s. He had different ways of singing (his angry, grittier voice, like in Smooth Criminal or a number of tracks from HIStory vs. his choir boy-type voice) but the tones, timber, and quality remained constant - soaring into those beautiful highs. I'm not a voice coach, but I'm curious if you'd detect differences. His ballad Speechless, from Invincible, is a tune that sounds like it's being sung by an older teenager or young adult, rather than a man in his early 40s!
You should definitely react to their 30th anniversary reunion
One of the things I love about this performance is you can see Jermaine break out laughing when Michael adds in his "hee-hee" ad-lib into the song at 5:09! And Jackie also looks like he starts laughing, too.
I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE
MJ King Of Pop Forever ❤️
Awesome video 👏🏼 Thank you for this 🙏🏼❤️
This and Temps vs Tops battle were the best parts of this show for me!
Yesssss ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Please react to Michael jackson You are not alone Live in Munich 1997 ❤
thats lip inched so I don't know about that one
@@semiribrahim8956 he sang the same even if he did playback.
@@miriamkiss Maybe he did but you can't hear it. You can only hear the playback in that performance.
Is playback 😒
Hi, Valerie! It's great to see you back! I hope you and you're family are doing good. Stay safe. Kisses 💜
Billie Jean Live Wembley 1988 and Bucharest 1992 are some really good live performances of this song, you should check it out! :D
OMG yes another living person has seen this video i can now die a little happier
React to more Michael, I love your reactions to him!!
A couple of Fun Facts, since you said you don't know where this fell in line with the Thiller album. 1. On the night MichaeI and his brothers performed hee, the Beat It video was filmed exactly 1 week before.2. The Thriiler album had been #1 exactly 4 weeks when they performed this night and would go on to be #1 for another 33 weeks...37 years later, no album has spent more weeks at #1 than Thriller.
I love watching you react to Michael...you really enjoy it and throw in some interesting insights that some of us may not have considered before. Excellent! P.S. This performance brings me back to the days where I would practice, practice, practice my dance moves and singing...the year 2000
Motown 25 was March '83 it was aired on NBC for May sweeps.
Thank you thee very great video.
MJ remains an unforgettable person.
It will always exist.
Love them! And miss michael so so much.😭
Another reason why he lipsynched Billie Jean was that this was the first live performance of the song, he wanted it to sound exactly like the record, so as you can hear, the instrumentals were also playback, and they even kept the fade out and the end. They simply played the record for the first performance of the song. The audience needs to hear how the song sounds like before they buy the record. If you play something live, the audience may end up buying a record different than what they expected. This is like a tradition. It happened for the early Jackson 5 songs as well.
I Want you Back on the Hollywood Palace 1969 - You can hear it is playback of the original record. Subsequent performances of IWYB (Ed Sullivan 1969, Andy Williams 1970, American Bandstand 1970 etc) - all alternative vocals recorded on the shows.
ABC on American Bandstand 1970 - Again, playback of the original record. Subsequent ABC performances (Ed Sullivan 1970, Flip Wilson 1971 etc) - All alternative recordings.
Stop The Love You Save Ed Sullivan 1970 - Playback again. Subsequent performances (Jim Nabors 1970, Diana! 1971 etc ) Are alternative recordings.
Jermaine (the one who's mic wasn't working during I'll be there) also has an incredible voice. I recommend his duets with Whitney Houston(he helped introduce her to the world), specifically “If you say my eyes are beautiful". They both sing their butts off
AMAZING!!!
I took this recorded show on a VHS recorder on my first overseas military tour to the Netherlands where no one had seen the Motown 25 show in the beginning of June 1983. The show with a Jackson 5 reunion and Michael’s moonwalking performance had been a rumor to them at that time. Needless to say I was the most popular new arrival at that base for a while.
Makes me cry happy an sad tears to hear Micheal sing an sing with his brothers 💜🙏
The way u gush at the Jacksons is adorable. It was fun watching this with u.
Well done!
Your an excellent voice teacher!
He didn't sing Billie Jean live for contract reasons. Here he was "host" for Motown and ABC, while currrent rights were for Epic. He simply could only sing it playback.
Michael Jackson rock with you live! Bad tour please!
Whenever I watch this clip, of course I am blown away by how awesome Michael is, and of course it is fun to see the brothers singing these songs that I grew up with. However, one thing I notice more and more on these clips is that Marlon is a good dancer also--he is doing the spins and the kicks that I tend to associate with Michael alone. Marlon's moves are not as crisp as Michael's, but he does a good job nonetheless.
This is such an iconic performance and night with all these Motown legends!
The reason why Mike lip synced Billie Jean was cuz it was his own material and copyrighted cuz it was not part of Motown. He didn’t actually wanna perform but they begged him and he was only doing it if he could perform his own song as well. So that’s how they compromised it lol great reaction btw!
You need to react to Billie Jean on Oslo 1992. That is THE best billie jean performance. It’s also one of the very few ever performances he did during daylight!
He was on FIRE this concert!
Bucharest is the best, specifically because it's night time. Night time has a whole different vibe to it. An eerie and iconic one.
Leudanne oh yeah Bucharest one is good too. But I have a soft spot for the Oslo performance.
I grew up on MJ. i’m also really enjoying hearing your feedback. You make me want to take voice lessons. 👍
You nailed it. Good review.
i love jackson five
More Michael reaction videos please!
I would love you to react to Billie jean in Munich 1992. It has AMAZING vocals, the best one of dangerous tour i would say :D
So much love in her eyes. Someone fancy Michael jackson here. But you have all the reason to be :)
Hermosoo💕
Michael danced when he did studio vocals a trick he learned from the great Jackie Wilson.
Thank you! Please do more MJ reactions.
This Motown 25th anniversary Concert was a night full of incredible stars!! But having a chance to see Michael and his brothers was so special to me. I am a J5 generation person, yes... ;-) ...LOVE to see them together. Some points are even more special ...as the moment of Michael and Jermaine sharing the mic, cause Jermaine's mic didn't work! It seemed to be God's plan, cause they looked into each other eyes and were holding hands during that part. It was so beautiful ! Never Can Say Goodbye....beautiful song, beautiful voice, high notes. And yes, I LOVE the harmonies they perform together! Thank you for reacting to this concert, Valerie!! Can I ask you to REACT TO his performance of "EARTH SONG" from Brunei Concert??
Ahí está en su mejor momento ...aquí es insuperable

Michael Jackson 1958 - FOREVER 👑👑👑
It’s important that current and future generations understand the shockwave this performance created. It not only launched Michael into super-stardom, it had a significant cultural impact. It was the first time, on a global scale, that non-black teens by the millions were idolizing a black artist. Kids in predominantly white suburbia wanted to dress like him, move like him and, most importantly, they wanted to buy his music. It was a seismic shift in the culture.
If you do wanna hear and see him perform this live then I most definitely recommend you to react to Billie Jean Wembley 1988 or Billie Jean Bucharest 1992! His energy and the crowd was on fire on both performances! 🔥👑
Can you please do a reaction to Jackie Wilson live in the 60"s on The Ed Sullivan Show when he does a live rendition of "To Be Loved", "Lonely Teardrops" and "At Last". The had them Large Overhead Boom Mikes that picks up finger snaps and foot Stops. Jackie Wilson and James Brown were Michael Jackson's main influences. Michael Jackson and His Brothers had been performing live since they were little kids with real microphones at clubs. This Motown 25 had just come out around "Thriller" in 83. He had not officially release "Billie Jean". The First Single off of "Thriller" was The Song "The Girl Is Mine" featuring Paul McCarthy. Michael Jackson had already released "Off The Wall" album in 1979. His First Solo Album from Epic. The Jackson's had already released "Destiny" with "Blame It On The Boogie" and "Shake Your Body Down to the Ground" in 1978. Michael Jackson first Officially solo Single was "Got To Be There" on Motown in 1971. Michael Jackson dedicated his award for Album of The Year "Thriller" in 1984 on the American Music Awards to Jackie Wilson whom he stated "Some people follow the path and some people create the path" "I Just want to say that Jackie Wilson was a great Performer" "Where ever you are i just want to thank you and i love you". Michael Jackson and his brothers use to watch from "The Regal Theater" in Chicago before they were at Motown. Berry Gordy who founded Motown wrote Three Singles for Jackie Wilson in the 50's. "Reet Petite", "To Be Loved" and "Lonely Teardrops". Jackie Wilson Influenced Smokey Robinson, Elvis Presley, David Ruffin, Michael Jackson and Countless Others.
WHY DO YOU PAUSE AT THE BEST MOMENTS?!?!? 😂🤣
Michael was 23/24 in here
Shake you Body 1987 at his Bad Tour in Yokohama. 😗😏 His voice was incredible there
The greatest entertainer of all time came from the greatest boy band of all time
I recommend Michael jackson Yokohama 1987 shake your body. I love your reactions but I admit I only watch the MJ ones.
From what I understand it was the production manager who advise that MJ lip sync Billie Jean on the Motown 25 Special as it was not a Motown song and the band would not have time to get the groove of Billie Jean right to MJs liking. MJ was willing and able to perform it live and if he had he probably would have won the Emmy for live performance that he was nominated for.
Did you know they were singing to prerecorded vocals for Motown 25? The only thing coming from out the mics are the talking parts.
Never should have cut out Michael.
I like Janet and Jermany Jackson too
You should react to Daryl Coley and Patti LaBelle singing Michael Jackson's "Will You Be There." It was a brilliant performance.
Please do the reaction of Michael's performance after the band goes off
We all know MJ can sing! REAL TALK!!!
Billie Jean was sung live in all his tours except History Tour
What this man just looked like. 😪
Hm. 30s. That was interesting thing you said about the voice maturing in men. Ok I'm 40 and only just started singing lessons. But i dunno but that bit just stuck out in my mind. :) Anyways yeah i like your reactions and notes on performances. :)
Michael sing live Billie Jean for the first time on the Victory tour.
Kansas city, 1984
Love Michael jackson! I mean who doesn't, amazing performance too, a fresh eager Michael ready to conquer the world during this time and slightly sad departure from his brothers and Billie jeans first performance! historic! I don't know if you do requests but I'd love for you to do an analysis of Nirvana/Kurt Cobain, here is a link to 'Come as you are' live, or another one of your choice is fine!
Michael performed Billie Jean live from the Victory Tour (1984) to the Dangerous Tour (1992-93) (including the Royal Concert from 1996), so you can check any of those. I also recommend you to react to some of The Jacksons' performances on tour, like the Triumph Tour or Destiny Tour (they're great and 100% live), "Keep On Dancing" in New Orleans '79 is one of my favorites.
Btw, english is not my first language, so i'm sorry for the grammatical mistakes in my comment. xd
As Michael matured, I enjoyed the songs "I Will Be There" and "She's Out of My Life" more and more in his live concerts. I loved (and still love) the original songs, but as he matured, his interpretations of the songs matured also. I always thought it was a shame that when he was older and his voice more mature that he didn't release an album of these songs that he had once sung as a child. I think his life experiences as an adult would have created a different feeling and a more personal, deeper interpretation.
How about a reaction to his “Another Part of Me” live performance at Wembley?!?!
Yes. Terrific live performance. So much energy and amazing footwork.
Such a shame that your TDCU reaction video was removed.
The band sound is pre-recorded.
Only MJ is singing live the medley
That's why he gave the mic to his brother
Billie Jean was live on all Victory, Bad and Dangerous Tours
Keep up the good work! Please react to Bad the song live on the bad tour, it was only sung completely without any lip-synching one time, and that was in Yokohama 1987. Amazing performance and no one of the biggest "react to" accounts on youtube have reacted to it yet. Search: "Michael Jackson - "BAD" live Bad Tour in Yokohama 1987 - Enhanced - High Definition
" and you will find it! Cheers.
The entire Yokohama performance is amazing.
Loved this, Jackson’s reunion 30th anniversary
Michael wasn't in his 30s in he was in his mid 20s in this show .
1983
Rolling Stone did a great write-up on this performance. Lip sinking Billie Jean had more to do with the Motown band than Michael not wanting to sing the song live. Michael and the producers didn't feel that they could give it the same quality as the record, so they went with the recording.
Can you react to some of his performances when he was younger? I feel like he had a stronger voice when he was younger.
Stronger voice than in This is it tour rehearsal? Dont think so:)))..On History tour his voice broke down thats why Seth Riggs his vocal teatcher travelled with him..like on Bad tour. On Dangerous tour he had strong voice as well...
All the songs from the medley where produced under Motown. Billie Jean wasn't. That's why he had to lipsync it. He only wanted to perform with his brothers in this event if he also had a solo performance. What a performance it was. Can watch it over and over again.
