I can see how manta being possessed instead and is not completely motivated by pure hatred for Arthur could sour some ppl especially bcuz manta is supposed to a petty villain but hear me out, I think that while he is straight up possessed, his hatred for Aquaman still overpowered kordax enough that instead of simply going for the royal bloodline, he chose to go "kill" Arthur's father to get revenge for his father and absolutely tried to use his own son's blood to free kordax. I looked at it more like he willingly chose to go for Aquaman's family and not out of obligation to free kordax. That said, I wasn't a fan how he was treated near the end. The fact that he was quite literally tossed aside by Aquaman and by the writers themselves just to build up Kordax as the final big boss is ASTOUNDING. What's even more astounding is how fast Kordax died just as fast as he was thawed out.
Such a wasted opportunity to use the TRENCH in the second film and have Manta lead the TRENCH against Aquaman’s army and allies , I would’ve removed Cordax out of the movie entirely and just let his Trident be the Mcguffin and let Black Manta be the endgame villain
I saw it and actually enjoyed it! It wasn’t near as bad as many are saying, but definitely not perfect. Black Manta was pretty dope and even more comic accurate than he was in the first movie. Patrick Wilson’s Orm had a really good redemption arc. I have to admit that Amber Heard’s Mera was actually pretty good, despite how you might feel about her as a person. I really would love to see more Black Manta.
The black triton is kind of like the dark hold in the MCU. King Arthur's son with having the ability to talk to fish was surprising and amazing he was able to call his dad when Arthur jr. was about to get stabbed. It reminded me of Peter B. Parker and his daughter Mayday. And the part where king Arthur said the similar line to Iron man, I am Aquaman was pretty cool!
I don't think that post-credit scenes are only for teasing the future. I mean if they have a little gag something that they want to tag on to the movie as a little extra joke or seen that maybe gives an explanation of something in the movie then I'm down I just don't think that every post credit scene necessarily has to be a teaser of something to come.
Great review, Cris. I personally had fun with it, but the way black manta went out after all that build up, not gonna lie was a little disappointed with that. I still loved all the fight scenes between Aquaman and Black Manta tho, especially that final trident fight. I really wish they made a Black Manta helmet popcorn bucket for this one too, glowing eyes and everything lol
Would have been great if the post credit scene was Aquaman on the stage then Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman joins him. Or even just Aquaman and Justice League walking to the sunset or just even standing.
Always love your spoiler reviews of newly released movies! You always deliver on them! You should make a video recapping and reviewing the entire DCEU now that it’s done like you did with MCU Phase 4
It’s kinda sad that this is the final 3Cfilms dceu review😢. Also it’s kinda poetic that the same day the dceu ends is the same day rebel moon came out (directed by Zack Snyder)
Really hope Yahya Abdul Mateen II is one of the actors to return in the DCU to reprise his role as Black Manta! He’s genuinely a perfect casting and it really grinds my gears to see how he couldnt tap into his full potential in these movies.
You're right that the pirate opening was treated like a joke. Made Aquaman seem slapstick / drunk while Orm and Manta were the only two taking the plot seriously - perhaps too seriously. That and the weird edits.
Black manta was really good in this movie I really hope the actor returns for the DCU Honestly I would also like to see James Wan return if they decide to make more Aquaman movies for the DCU
God I hope not. I mean they could use the same manta but I hate the color grading and cgi James wan uses. Why is it so colorful? Life ain’t rainbows and sunshines
I watch your spoiler reviews for movies I could care less about. Through your words ive feel like ive seen the movie, but not wasted any time in my life. Good Job!
Seen it in 4dx n had a lot of fun with it too. Was personally one of my favorite dceu movies thought the action was cool I didn’t feel like they drowned it in humor felt it was at a good pace with it. Definitely still had its serious moments. I really don’t think a post credit or after credit really has to be something about the future I mean I laughed at it still and of course we all know the dc is moving on to something else. 8/10 from me. Not perfect of course but wasn’t bad at all
I have yet to see This movie but I will say , I really enjoyed the first one and at the end of the day I just see it as watching episodes/ daily problems of these hero’s.
I honestly thought this was a fun and entertaining movie. Black Manta is a badass character and steals every moment he is in. Most of the jokes worked for me, and definitely enjoyed this movie more than the first one. 8/10 because I didnt like the way Black Manta died.
I honestly really liked aquaman! I thought it was very intense and leading to the final battle had me on the edge of my seat. The jokes didn’t even bother me. They were funny. I would say I like the first one better because it was beautiful. Like the scenery of shots and Atlantis. I would give aquaman 2 a 9/10.
I just wanted the movie and I think the movie was great. To me it just felt like a family movie, and I enjoy that. sucks that this version of the dceu is over 😢
I really liked orm and his redemption in this movie. I'm just disappointed that it will be the last we see of this version of Orm. When aquaman is introduced into the James Gunn universe, Orm will most likely be a bad guy again
Chris just HATES when comedy plays into horror, dramas, etc. I totally agree that too much of it, really kills the vibe. But, I think it was pretty well-balanced, here. I didn't find myself feeling like I was in the middle of a Loony Tunes production like SOME we all know about. I LOVE comedy in horror. Chris begins to really be disappointed by a franchise, the precise installment that I begin to love it. Bride of Chucky, for me, was the beginning of my Chucky obsession. Freddy's Dead was my fav sequel in Nightmare on Elm Street. I have a dark sense of humor, so I think that the moment the seriousness or horror is at it's peak, is the perfect moment to clown tf out.
At school last week, my class got the chance to talk to one of the producers of the movie and he told us his entire experience about this movie and other movies in the past he has done. His name is Rob Cowan if your wondering
Just saw the movie, the first 3rd of the movie was a little weak, the parts about the black trident were good but the second act just felt all over the place, but the last two acts picked up and i really enjoyed it, the action and directing were really good visually just great, the acting from Wilson and Momoa were really good, there were more silly jokes from arthur in this one compared to the first one but besides that he killed it, some emotional scenes and im glad it wasn't by jokes right after, overall the movie was pretty good imo, the story overall was good but i feel like it relating to the global warming was a bit messy but the lost kingdom parts were interesting and black manta was pretty good, i do agree in the end him being possesed did take away from the original intentions but im glad it came full circle with aquaman trying to save him unlike in the first movie where he let the father die and tried to at least save him this time, i'd give it a 7.5/10
7:12 I went to watch the movie with my family, and literally what I said to them coming out of the theater was "the problem with the movie is that there is a guy that talks, behaves and looks like Aquaman, and next to him is Jason Momoa being Jason Momoa"
Honestly I'm not too much of a critic and typically enjoy most movies I watch, however this movie I thought was so bad I almost considered it would be more time efficient to take a nap in the theater. The dialogue and exposition was so unfathomably bad. It was just crazy lazy.
The thing about the comic characters being supposedly supposed to be kings is the fact that none of them are ever taught to be leaders in a political aspect they’re always warriors or fighters, who are put into the position of being a king. Especially in the case of Aquaman, in this sense Aquaman from the beginning, never wanted to be king. He was forced into that position by Mira and William Defoes character. and then even further forced into the position when he found out, King Orem was going to wipe out the surface world. So I kinda understand the trope of the warrior turned king doesn’t want to be king because like he’s a fighter always has been so of course, sitting in a boardroom, talking politics is gonna be boring
I saw Aquaman two And… oh dear, oh dear. They start the film out by having Jason Momoa smugly narrate how good he is at one really important thing. He is good at “breaking heads”. Because he’s just that kind of Neanderthal. The film doesn’t mention his powers or stretch or even display the limits of those powers. And it certainly doesn’t praise his intellectual prowess or even his other abilities. This movie presents the main character as a brick, good for throwing at people and windows to get them to break. And they even have him smarmily announce that all this is because he’s “the king of frickin Atlantis”. And I’m only talking about the first two minutes of the movie so far. He narrates a lot, interspersed with clips of adventures that have to be better than this one because this film was lousy and lacked any sense of adventure. And the narration makes Momoa sound like a very over-entitled (and terribly stupid) lowbrow moron. That isn’t him, by the way. That’s deliberately how it is written, and how he’s supposed to act. He must’ve hated it. And as this unconvincing opening, commences, in the background “Born To Be Wild” plays loudly… possibly to remind you of something actually enjoyable. If it was an attempt to make Aquaman look like a tough guy, then it failed miserably and they might have wanted to try an AC/DC song to try and sell that hackneyed cliche instead. It doesn’t help that the very moment they are trying to present Momoa as a tough blockhead who doesn’t take nonsense from anyone… is the very moment they suddenly cut away to show him trying to calm a crying baby and play daddy; he’s just another useless man who needs a woman to take charge. That change in scenes immediately undoes any trace of what they had just tried to instill in the minds of the audience. Suddenly, you feel like you are in a rom-com about a single dad. The villain (Manta) is as one-dimensional as you can imagine. He has no talents or skills or drive or ingenuity. He actually sits around announcing things like, “Every day I don’t fix my suit is another day Aquaman gets to live…”. As if there is NO OTHER possible solution. He couldn’t build himself up stronger, or expand his intelligence and outsmart his nemesis with a clever trap or any other solution. Manta is a one-hit wonder on the subject of his power suit. That’s what he wants and all he needs and the entirety of his character. He could have been played by an empty suit for the most part. His arc starts on a quest to repair his suit and it ends there. Because he does that nearly immediately and has no other character development of any kind. As for Aquaman… he doesn’t need a suit. He gets his knowledge and motivations from cryptic dreams that just keep him informed on situations. He seriously relies on prophetic dreams from out of nowhere to chart his actions. And he is such a strong king, that when he informs his council of plans to save Atlantis from pollution and plague by revealing its existence to the world, his council tells him that they will reveal Atlantis when they decide to attack the surface dwellers… and not before. So he doesn’t appear in charge of his own kingdom. And the dialogue is so witty. “You’ve got 15 minutes to get in and out, so there’s no margin for error…“ and “stealth mode, engage…“ and even, “we can’t fight their entire army.” These lines are so generic, they could appear in anything from a recent Mission Impossible movie to an old episode of Charlie’s Angels. And speaking of tired, out-of-date women… Amber Heard is also in this disaster. Don’t worry, she doesn’t ruin the entire film… the film does that for itself. Miss Heard only ruins 37 minutes of this movie; the 37 minutes that she’s in. She appears to be playing a pissed-off fish stick. That may be part of the bad writing in this film, but is more likely to be down to the reality that she only has one facial expression… unreasonably furious woman, waiting in the dark for her husband to come home so she can hit him with something heavy. She looks like a cliché from the 1940s, just not wearing actual hair curlers. Her range is amazing in this movie. Not only can she play a useless cardboard cut out, and a very upset fishwife, she also manages to spend 11 minutes of the movie simply pouting. I’m not sure if she thinks it’s attractive, or the studio believes it is, but whatever the case… it isn’t even slightly engaging. It just makes her look vindictive. She actually resembles a guest on the Maury show, standing up in front of a crowd insisting some stranger is the father of her baby and that she will make him pay. She is so typical of a guest in that genre that they should’ve just cast her in a film about the Maury show. That might’ve at least been interesting. And even though the action scenes would’ve only been her picking up a chair to throw it at some innocent man… those action scenes would still have been more believable than the ones they filmed in the movie. And once she is proved wrong about the paternity of the child, the guests on Maury’s show act exactly the way Amber does. “No. That IS his baby. He will pay for that baby. Give me my money. I want my money. I don’t care what no DNA test says; that test is a lie. All these people are lying. You lying too. No!!! He WILL pay!!! Where my money? Go run and get me my money… now! Now!! NOW!!!” And then the hysterical woman usually winds up ripping off her wig, or her weave, and screaming on the floor while kicking and beating the carpet in frustration like a three-year-old. Amber should keep that speech handy… once the box office is tallied, she’ll be making that same speech to her agent. “Give me my money. Where my money at? No, you will get me my money right now. Now. NOW!!!” I wonder if she’ll fall to the floor kicking and screaming and ripping off HER wig. And all her agent will be able to say in response, is the same thing the men on the Maury show say, “What money, bitch? Don’t nobody owe you any money. You didn’t do anything; it’s not like you work. You just hang around doing whatever the hell you want all the time and expecting somebody to pay you for it. You a trifling hoe.” So even though there has been a blackout on reviewing this film, for some reason, now that the movie is out the reviews are going to start appearing. And I guarantee you nobody involved with this project is going to like them anymore than the studio does, or the consumers do. If Disney really wants to save itself and promote fairness and equity, the first thing they need to do is shit-can Amber Heard… before the smell of spoiled tuna gets so profound that it chokes everybody in the audience and makes them flee the theater.
i watched it today and i thought it was alright, its not THAT bad, its not GREAT, its alright but i loved some of the jokes and especially the relationship between aquaman and orm
Also, even though this is the last movie of the dceu it definitely doesn't have to be a movie that closes out that whole saga., it should just be what it's going to be and whether or not it teases the future or calls back to the past, who cares let's just let the movie be the movie. I feel like the whole Cinematic Universe thing has really screwed up people's ways of looking at movies and stuff.
The first Aquaman was “serious?” You gotta be kidding. Still, if this is even sillier, all the more reason to pass completely. Agree Patrick Wilson is the best part of this series though.
I just watched it and I thought it was good to much jokey in some parts you could say but the CGI and Visuals carried hard for me I’d give a 6.5-7 out of 10
And I thought wonder woman 84 was a disgrace to the cinematic universe, but somehow this could be even worse and more of an affront to all that is good and holy in filmmaking
I think the joke of orm eating the roach is that we sometimes eat roaches of the sea (shrimp 🍤 🦐) and other bottom feeders. We eat their roaches and he ate ours.. ?
What a sad end to the DCEU. It had so much potential, all the pieces were there with decent casting to create a cinematic universe to compete with the mcu. Hate the behind the scenes drama at WB made the dceu self destruct in a sense
The post credits scene of the movie basically describes what the DCEU is. It started strong but ended so weak. I still prefer the first Aquaman movie than this one. R.I.P. DCEU.
I dislike a lot of this movie, but a few that stood out: The naration immediately threw me off, For some reason Randall Park did not sit right by me, all he did was make me wonder what I know him from instead, which took till after the movie. But especially the end scene, they picked a number of real world random locations, New York, London, India, forgot the rest. Yet this would have been the #1 spot to place this movie in the DCEU if they used Gotham, Metropolis or Metro City in the mix. Also, I kept wondering when the Batman cameo would come (and which one), but that never even happened.
The DCEU should’ve been ended with The Flash followed by Blue Beetle. Blue Beetle is the Best DCEU Movie since Shazam from 2019. Aquaman should’ve been the one that came out in June 2023
Still enjoyed it. Except for Amber Turd. She should've been fired. But..its sad that the DCEU has to come to a end. And I don't think we'll ever get a DCU cinematic universe. Other than that, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the best DC movie of this year.
It's sad the dceu is over but they tried too hard to catch up with Marvel. My friend said they have better writers on their animated movies vs live action movies. I would like to see a Martian Manhunter movie. That tease of him at the end oc Justice league was nice.
The fact that the monsterverse May last longer than the DCEU is wild to me

How can they not cast Patrick Wilson as Aquaman in the new DCU?
They'll get someone younger
That would be Confusing to the Audience.
I actually really enjoyed Black Manta as the main villain, it's what I hoped for in the first film
the fact is the universe ends with orm eating a roach burger is just sad 😂 hopefully james gunn can handle the dc characters better

You a trifling hoe.”
So even though there has been a blackout on reviewing this film, for some reason, now that the movie is out the reviews are going to start appearing.
Disney has nothing to do with the DCEU, this is Warner Bros
i watched it today and i thought it was alright, its not THAT bad, its not GREAT, its alright but i loved some of the jokes and especially the relationship between aquaman and orm
I enjoyed it as a movie could see the joy of Jason Mamoa in playing Aquaman. You really notice all the cutting but still fun.
amber heard was great
There were a lot of people hated it, I didn’t think so. 6.8/10
What’s funny is that everyone on the surface thinks that aqua man is like normal in Atlantis and almost everyone in Atlantis has the same powers
Ngl Black Manta and his suit was Fire Asf I this Film he looked so good tbh
#3CFilmsSquad
The first Aquaman was “serious?” You gotta be kidding. Still, if this is even sillier, all the more reason to pass completely.
Agree Patrick Wilson is the best part of this series though.
Thank you, saved me from wasting my money lol
I just watched it and I thought it was good to much jokey in some parts you could say but the CGI and Visuals carried hard for me I’d give a 6.5-7 out of 10
Amazes me how empty the prisons in comic book movie universes must be.
Never thought id see the day that the monsterverse had a better year than marvel and dc
And I thought wonder woman 84 was a disgrace to the cinematic universe, but somehow this could be even worse and more of an affront to all that is good and holy in filmmaking
I’m positive that black manta was originally supposed to have a post credit scene to show that he is alive
OMG, I hated that ending but now you put it in context for me with the beginning of MCU lmao
I just seen it today. I thought it was good. I didn’t hate it and it wasn’t great. It was good and I enjoyed it.
I think the joke of orm eating the roach is that we sometimes eat roaches of the sea (shrimp 🍤 🦐) and other bottom feeders. We eat their roaches and he ate ours.. ?
Haven’t seen it, don’t think I will see it
You should do a movie ranking of DCEU movies
I like the joke about him eating the roach It's kinda funny
It was actually really good. Like I genuinely enjoyed it all the way through.
What a sad end to the DCEU. It had so much potential, all the pieces were there with decent casting to create a cinematic universe to compete with the mcu. Hate the behind the scenes drama at WB made the dceu self destruct in a sense
Are you going to review the iron claw ?
The post credits scene of the movie basically describes what the DCEU is. It started strong but ended so weak. I still prefer the first Aquaman movie than this one. R.I.P. DCEU.
Bro that opening alone would have made me walk out… I see why they were walking out regardless of how the rest of the film was
Deadpool
Deadpool 2
Robocop 2
The batman
Mortal Kombat
My best opening fight scenes.
I dislike a lot of this movie, but a few that stood out:
The naration immediately threw me off,
For some reason Randall Park did not sit right by me, all he did was make me wonder what I know him from instead, which took till after the movie.
3:30 ! I was thinking the same thing T'Challa seemed like the only one keeping the trend of honoring the throne but unfortunately.... 🙏🏾 🕊
The DCEU should’ve been ended with The Flash followed by Blue Beetle. Blue Beetle is the Best DCEU Movie since Shazam from 2019. Aquaman should’ve been the one that came out in June 2023
Before hellboy 4 is released are you going to review the first 3
I thought the post credit scene was funny and better then making it a cliffhanger like other movies then never follow through
Technically, cockroaches and shrimp are pretty indistinguishable. It makes sense Orm would enjoy it.
I enjoyed the movie mate I had a great time with it. But you did leave another reference to the MCU. That was when Aquaman called his brother Loki.
Still enjoyed it. Except for Amber Turd. She should've been fired. But..its sad that the DCEU has to come to a end. And I don't think we'll ever get a DCU cinematic universe. Other than that, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the best DC movie of this year.
Spoiler review! The spoiler is when you’re watching it.
what are the lights in your shelfs called?
It's sad the dceu is over but they tried too hard to catch up with Marvel. My friend said they have better writers on their animated movies vs live action movies. I would like to see a Martian Manhunter movie. That tease of him at the end oc Justice league was nice.
