I love my Oscar. I got her for my husband and she has slowly become my fish. She has such a personality, I couldn’t believe it. She reacts to us walking into the room, dances, plays, does barrel rolls and somersaults over her mopani wood. We got her when she was around 1-1.5 inches and had to start her in a 10 gallon and it was amazing seeing her grow and transition into her big girl tank. Definitely my favorite cichlid.
Ahhh Thankyou for this!! I just bought my first Oscar for my big South American cichild tank and got him as a baby just to see him grow! I’ve only had him for a week and he’s such a fun and feisty little fella! Thanks for you videos, they’ve been so helpful for me!!

Great video! I have an 8/9 month albino and a 3/4 month like Nessie. Best fish I have. The Albino is almost my biggest fish already and I have many established fish. Big blood parrot feuds a bit with them but seems to be harmless.

Hello and thanks for the video on growth rate. My Oscar Billy ( tiger and Betty an albino) have been with me for 14 months now and have been all the delightful things that have been attached to them. Billy is 16.5 “ long and Betty 10 “. But I have a large problem, they have out grown all the tanks they lived in. They were in my 75 gal. But the tank has lost its integrity due to the constant rearranging and banging on the glass. So I had to put them back in the 55 gallon. At the moment a 100 gallon tank and the support items that are needed are not in my budget as my wife constantly reminds me. I’ve sold all my twenties and stands, but it was a little short. So that’s were we are.
Beautiful fish, looks healthy and happy. I've a red Oscar, Lightfoot, in a pond. I'm in the west indies, so perfect weather for him. He's about 11 months and 9 inches.
oscars are one of the most interactive fishes in the aquarium .. Got my first oscar lasted for 3 years 7 months .. I miss him a lot. He's Omar. Nice shirt, Troy.
My biggest Oscar was 30+cm in nine month. Every oscar has a different growth rate, I bought four oscar at the same size, but now after nine month, they have a different size... 30cm, 27cm, 25cm, and 22cm. Same diet and live in the same aquarium.
Would love you guys to do a spot light on the parachromis loisellei I have two of them male and female in with other American cichlids... I have now shifted in my top cichlids with this one being In the top ten.😃
I just took delivery of a Tiger Oscar sold as 7.5cm from TropCo here in UK but actually 11-12cm I'm glad actually bigger as I can see what my other 3" Albino Tiger will look like in a short while. Already eaten pellets and mealworms in my 40 gallon QT
Another awesome video Troy. My Oscar in my 190 gallon is getting to about 4 inches now (after about 4 months) and likes to jump at food a little. Wondering will I need to weight the lid soon. Can I just ask, is there any worries Nessie could leap out of the 180 gallon, with it not having a lid on top?
Thank you! The 180 actually does have an acrylic top to it, so it does have a firm lid. Kinda hard to see it from certain angles. I'd definitely recommend a firm lid with Oscars!
SUPER interesting vid!!! i've been so curious about seeing in real time some of the adult sizes, but also how much the patterns and stuff might shift. i know it does for betta, koi, and even pet birds. so i never try to assume it'll stay the same.
So I have been in the saltwater side of the hobby for 18 years and have decided to plunge neck deep into freshwater! This is my question….if I gave you a 650 gallon tank (8x3x4) what would be your dream stocking? I am not near as well versed in freshwater but some fish that peak my interest to this point are Oscar’s, a green terror, arowana maybe a blood parrot or two. I would love to here your opinion on a dream stocking for a large tank! Thanks!!

I had to seperate them, so the smaller Parrot is ok. It may be a female ? I just picked up 2 juvenile Tiger Oscars for this new tank. I added 6 Green Severum a week ago, but have the Oscars in a 75g growout tank. This video gives me an aprox, time for them to grow before adding them into the 450 as well. Ive sub'd to your channel and think its good stuff. Thanks
I had just got a Red Oscar and Tiger Oscar 7 months ago. They were both at 1 1/2" small. I got them small to grow out with Jack Dempseys and Red Texas and Vieja and not be too big fpr Convicts or Firemouths. Well, 7 months later they are at 9" and fat. I had to put them into 450g with older Southies.. WaterPigs is the perfect name for them.
Hey bud, could you briefly explain your experience with the electric blue JD’s. I’m in the UK & I’ve got 3 juveniles that are really struggling to to grow. My American chichlid started with all juveniles. All fishes are doing great & growing. The electric blues are timid, slow to respond to food, they’ve simply been getting out competed by the others. Any tips?
