I was researching this watch and stumbled across your video. It has been very useful. I always enjoy finding new people in the watch community. I subbed immediately. Keep up the great videos

I have the exact same model from Vaer. I've had it for nearly a year. I took off the rubber strap, and put an old fashioned Speidel band on it. It looks great in my opinion. If I remember correctly, Vaer assembles the watch themselves here in America, and regulated as well. Mine runs at +2 per day on average. Great watch, and easy to read, at a quick glance. Will be looking forward to your full review.

Thanks Brian. This one feels like it would be an easy every day watch that would not draw a lot of attention. But you would know that it is a bit special

I know exactly what you mean about the strap. I have the 36mm version and that black strap is amazing! I love how soft it is, the fact that is tapers, and that it bends a little by the lugs that make it hug the wrist. Vaer gets these from Barton. It’s called the Barton elite rubber strap if you want to get different colors. To me that’s why it feels magical on wrist. It’s because of how the rubber strap forms around it.

Awesome little field watch there agree with all your observations James and great to have a high beat auto in it! Looking forward to my collab with Vaer as they reached out to me as well, hopefully will get one in soon. Personally love the pop the red seconds hand gives, hour and minute hand are the perfect size as well, very nicely done great field watch

What a beauty. Having the Miyota 9015 high beat movement, is a nice touch. For the price you stated, it's a good value. Very nice. Can't wait for the full review. Thanks James.

1:02 This watch is not good. It changes time because the dial pops out easily and it leaks water.

    • @WATCHingJames

That’s disappointing to hear. I’m sure Vaer would fix that for you under warranty.
They seem like a brand that would want to do that.

The Miyota 9015 movement has the benefit of being low profile. This is what facilitates the slender height of the VAER automatic watch cases. The tradeoff with all Miyota movements is that their rotors are unidirectional. They are quite robust and reliable movements but they do feel and sound less refined than an ETA movement, IMO.
IIUC, all Miyota 9000 series have always had hacking and hand winding features. These features have recently been added to the 8000 series as well.
IMO, this particular watch hits it out of the ballpark. I do prefer the variant with the train track around the dial. I bought mine as part of their kickstarter campaign a few years ago sans date complication.
For a man with a smaller than average wrist, their 36mm variants are the tits. I own several VAER watches. The VAER A12 dirty dozen homage watch, which appears to be out of production, is definitely not leaving my collection.
Do not discount or ignore VAER's solar powered watches. A solar powered field watch with 100m WR makes enormous good sense in actual field use.

I bought one of their quartz models, the seconds hand moves but nothing else works. I live in Sweden so sending it back will be too expensive. Avoid anything with the plastic Ameriquartz in it!

Ah well, at least you know what second it is!! Joking aside, that is very disappointing. Maybe you can send them a video of the problem. One minute will show the minute hand not moving. They should offer you a refund at least.

Tony, VAER's lined Horween leather straps are outstanding, in my experience. Their nylon two piece straps are intensely practical, tough, and comfortable once they have conformed to your wrist, which takes a couple of days. All VAER watches have 20mm lugs, so all VAER straps are 20mm.
VAER's silicon straps are made by Barton. If you buy this strap from Barton it comes with two tail pieces of different lengths. If you buy it from VAER it comes with a branded buckle.
All VAER two piece straps are quick release.

A 41 mm field watch would look more appropriate on a church steeple than on a wrist!
