    Hey MIchael, your OBS Tutorials are awesome. I downloaded Own3dPro, ran through the initial set up, and accidentally wiped my main profile. All fixed now, thanks to some of your other tutorials (Specifically the Nested Scenes Tuorial Vid). A lesson has been learned. ALWAYS create a new profile when testing plug ins, just in case.
    That said, everything now seems to be working beautifully. Thanks for these tutorials, they not only saved me a lot of time, but allowed me to streamline everything to make streaming easier and modifications much simpler

    Father Forrestahl says, this is a great tool box video. You give lots of advice on a wide variety of things. I keep the ones that apply to my setup and help me out. This one took care of my chopy streaming. I had the fps on 60. I was forcing too much data thru a small hose. Cuting back the pressure to 30 fps and following the other tips fixed it right up. Slowly but surely, with your help, im getting it together.

    I love how you said that most people don't even watch the streams that much but listen mostly. That is kinda true, even in gaming I would find it better to have 720p at 30fps. as long as the downscale filter is to max it still looks good in my opinion. Also using either CPU or GPU for encoding is very game dependent. If the game eats all your GPU performance, it might be better to use x264 to encode instead of the nvenc.
    Awesome video as always!

    I have a fairly high end machine and still have found issues with streaming. I started streaming on a very different system. I was using a Dell OptiPlex with a 3rd gen I5 and 8 gigs of DDR3 with an RX 560. Watching channels like Epos Vox, Coalition Gaming, and especially yours, have helped me to find the settings I need to fine tune my streams and videos. Ultimately, as with many things in life, it comes down to the details. Even with a high end system, a singular setting can lead to a bad time. That is why I appreciate your content as much as I do and why I recommend it to friends that ask me how to improve their streams.

    Alot of people ask me how i'm able to stream with my dual pc setup, given that my stream pc is such a potato.
    Honestly, i have no idea . . . . on paper i should be able to do 1080p 60fps, but the darn thing runs it just fine.
    One of the big things would be . . . not alot of videos in my sources.
    Apart from a "intro" video and a charity promo video, it's pretty much all static, with a few gifs i can call on demand with Touch-Portal (like emotional damage, lmao).
    And the regular host/follow/etc browser sources
    Quality preset - 6000 bitrate - NVENC H.264 encoder
    For reference, my specs are
    PC: Refurbished HP Office Desktop
    CPU - Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.20GHz (4c/4t)
    MOBO - Hewlett-Packard 3396 Socket 1155 LGA
    RAM - 2x8 @ 1333MHz Dual Channel
    GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4gig
    Love the content man, keep it up💪

    I'm new to streaming and have been struggling with my OBS settings, so I appreciate this video. 😊
    I noticed that you don't rescale your output at all. However, what would you suggest to someone who wants to play the game on a 1440p monitor but can only stream at 720p?
    I initially kept my video canvas and output at 1440p and rescaled to 720p in the Output -> Streaming tab so that the replay would be recorded at 1440p. After having internet issues (I only get 5 Mbps up) and seeing some rendering lag/frames dropped, I reduced my bitrate and rescaled to 720p within the Video tab (not Output/Streaming tab) and just used NVIDIA shadowplay for replay recording, but I can't tell if it helped much, as I still get occasional missed/skipped frames (about .2%).
    I'd like to be able to record 1440p replays in OBS and game at 1440 but output the stream at 720p 30fps, but the encoding lag has me stumped. I'm streaming at 2800 Kbps (720p 30fps), and my PC is a beast (RTX 3080 Ti, Ryzen 9 5900x, 64GB RAM). Should I not use NVENC as my encoder? I didn't know if it's normal just to skip and miss a few frames in a stream. 🤷‍♀

    • @CreativeExcusesGaming
      @CreativeExcusesGaming 2 года назад +3

      .2% is like 3 missed frames a minute which doesnt seem terrible at all honestly.

    • @MichaelFeyrerJr
      @MichaelFeyrerJr  2 года назад +2

      I run an old 970 and rarely ever drop a frame at 1080. If you are dropping frames at 720 there is an issue somewhere.

    • @HooksHollands
      @HooksHollands 2 года назад +1

      @@MichaelFeyrerJr OK, thanks. I guess I'll try turning off Shadowplay or switch to x264. Having dual monitors with one monitor @ 144Hz and another @ 240Hz wouldn't cause my encoding frame drop issue, would it?

    • @ajtheracer95
      @ajtheracer95 2 года назад +2

      If you never max out your GPU usage while gaming, keep using NVENC, otherwise, try switching to x264. I have the same CPU as you but with a 2070 Super. I basically leave all the game graphics processing to the GPU and stream encoding to the CPU (I use fast preset). Another thing that could help is disabling the stream preview. I, for some reason, get render lag when I leave it on.

    • @HooksHollands
      @HooksHollands 2 года назад +1

      @@ajtheracer95 Thank you so much for your help!! I didn't know I could disable the preview, so thanks! I'm waiting for my regular streaming PC to return from the repair shop (Ryzen 9 3950x, RTX 3080). One of the reasons it went for repair is the GPU usage would jump to 100% on games like Fall Guys and Sea of Thieves (at low graphics settings), so assuming that's fixed, I'll see how it performs with and without x264.

    Thank you for addressing so many important topics :)
    If you can play it , you can stream it.
    While you might think you have issues - I am Wireless in "Remote" Alaska - for me the wireless connection was a huge hurdle.
    So the informations on reducing work loads on the computer, canvas and display sizes, etc, to get the smoothest broadcast process was Super helpful.
    I use the standalone OBS because the less internet traffic I have the easier it is to stream.
    I also have a bot that controls my streaming scenes, little games I put together & a chat reader so I don't have to worry about missing a comment. Both of those are here local as well.
    I think the hardest part of streaming was ignoring My own voice - it is what it is.
    Since the days of (actual) tape recorders I hated the sound of my voice, but You just have to let that go and keep moving forward.
    I do NOT have a webcam - nobody seems to care .. But webcams are nice ( I suppose ) :)

    Also, if you cant change your output mode from Simple to Advanced
    First, go to Tools> Go to NDI Output settings (or any virtual cam you're using) and Stop it (uncheck the box)
    Now you will be able to make changes to your settings.

The minimum camera resolution is 1080, the max internet upload speed is 6. In the video settings you said that the base and output resolution should be the same. I can't set the camera to 720, and when I go live any output over 720 creates a problem with dropped frames. So I need to rescale from base 1080 to output 720. What is your recommendation in this case?

    You might find this interesting, i stream using space X internet.
    you can stream at 4500 at 60fps 1280x720... you need an upload speed of around 6 or 7 minimum it it goes below 4.5 you lose frames. I have been streaming with Starlink internet for the last 6 months after moved back to family farm middle of nowhere. Starlink is really good download speed, maximum of 300 download, minimum download around 50 but usually sits near 175.. upload speed can go up to 70 but it is so variable with the system still under construction for a few years, upload can go down to 3 or 4 when it is jumpy at times, usually i only lose average of 2 to 4 percent frame loss for a stream, but some nights that are not good internet nights can be anywhere from 7 to 20 percent frame rate loss, 20 is uncommon tho, have only seen that twice so far, probably were doing updates, they are constantly updating the system as they send up 50 sattelites every 2wks since December.
    I use a little program called Twitch Test it is really good to check your speeds and you can connect to every different server station, NYC works much better for me than Montreal and I live in Canada.Just thought you might find that interesting.

    I have a problem. OBS Stats says CPU is 2-5% but Windows Task Manager says OBS is taking 60-80% of the CPU.

    I only have 3.14 upload on LAN cable fibre optic will this be enough to stream games? how do you get overlays on mp4 file?

    • @MichaelFeyrerJr
      @MichaelFeyrerJr  2 года назад

      If I’m reading that right it’s only about 3000 obs which is not sufficient for 720 at 30. But you may get by. I would test it.

    The audio stream's current bitrate (0) is lower than the recommended bitrate. We recommend that you use an audio stream bitrate of 128 Kbps.

    I have to use Wifi. We do not have anything except Ubiquity on a switch and hats 5 access points at our house. I cannot use Ethernet since all ports are being used. To change my switch could be over 500 dollars to keep the console and cloud management.

      You can buy a switch with 5 inputs and use one from the main router. They cost like $40.

    Also check your BIOS to see if you can turn on the TPM setting to meet the Windows 11 requirements if that’s what’s missing, folks. (Google will explain this better than I can.)

    • @HooksHollands

      Make sure you're trying on a PC and not mobile, as mobile streaming is only available once you reach a certain subscriber threshold, I think.

    The problem in America is they give you a fast Downstream but they give you almost nothing for Upstream. With Charter cable for instance it's a 200 to 1 ratio. It's absolutely ridiculous. When I was in Japan I had 1 GB upstream and downstream for just 3500 Jana month which is about $32 a month in American dollars. Whereas companies in America charge over $100 a month for a tiny fraction of that speed and only in One Direction.
