Just to reiterare my previous post in a different way. If you want a summarization (hah!), notice how Eric starts off by making everyone laugh by having a funny and respectful story towards Antonio. Everyone liked it, because how could you not? Eric spoke from his heart. He WAS sad he didn't meet Antonio (and slightly because he wasn't a part of the VIP section), but he's not grasping on to his prestige or street rep while explaining it and was fine with making it into a joke, slightly on his behalf in the tone of the joke. That Eric's not bantering back - which a ridiculous majority of all chess players would have done - made it so wholesome. Funny and wholesome. Let the joke be, it was funny and Eric has no reason to bark. Great success. Then notice how Eric basically won't question a move by his opponents and argues why it was done, to try to convince a logical favour by persuasion. He only gives compliments for good moves, he's never barking. If persuading someone succeeds, you're in the positive, but most of the time you're in a negative because of natural suspicion or straight up failure. That's the aggressive style of someone showing and feeling threat. Eric's just keeps his stuff together, humbly explains he was lucky nearing 2000 in just a couple of games and has no clue what is going on. When Eric is heavily under attack, he just makes a verbal observation that he is under heavy pressure and feels sad concern. Nothing else. He doesn't ask for any favours of truce, he just expresses his sadness of a multiple threat that he doesn't question or accuse anyone of. Master diplomacy. The pressure towards Eric is released and the chaos ensues. Then on to the backstabbery: Eric chose to attack Hikaru in a critical moment - which lead to Hikaru losing, while they're yelling why Eric made such a noob mistake. Momentarily after, GothamChess is also eliminated. Then he has only Agadmator left and he has nothing. Look at that, the chess noob nearing 2000 in 4 player chess just won - with a million queens. I feel deeply that his first goal wasn't necessarily to win, but to get four queens. Instinctually, as well as aesthetically pleasing, the complimentary attacking and defensive power is an order or more greater than two. The concept of sacrificing a promoted queen for a "real" piece is just a bad play. A promoted queen has all of the ability of the original, so its origin doesn't matter.
@@DoffanShadow That is true, but just like standard chess, you will have to trade throughout the game. Trading the 1pt Queen for the "real" pieces is better than an actual piece for equal piece trade, as the goal IS to get the most points. Trading with an opponent while the other two are not focused on you will be essential. Especially when those other two are attacking the opponent you're trading with. Like in standard chess, aim to trade with the least valuable/point pieces. Otherwise, no one can get anywhere or people will team up on you for having the most pieces.
This was so funny to watch. Antonio and Eric introduction, Agmator telling Eric to mate and marry Levy, Hikaro having his soul leaving his body when checked by Eric...

I think he just meant it was unfortunate for Eric cause Levy’s the one who ended up w the points for mating Hikaru. I know sometimes they can sound like know it alls but I don’t think this was one of those times lol
Man, Eric could be a scientist or a philosopher with all those questions. He asks questions that doesn't get to be asked all the time, but they make sense. Also I just noticed how he's so sociable.
Levy was the worse EDIT : Hikaru was clearly mad at him because of his attitude, Hikaru then started acting like "bro what's wrong with you, cocky bastard ?", and at the end i just think he deeply disliked Levy.
Yes and you can literally see his brain going from relaxed into hyper gear trying yo figure out if he can somehow worm himself out of the situation, then realizing that he needs to hope for a blunder and the anxious anticipation of Levy's move. That was some vivid facial expressions for a chess game.
exactly, and then gothamchess says it's "not a good move", and gets mated immediately after haha. Hikaru is so bitter he cant stay to see Eric dominate 35:51
So glad Eric won, and especially that he unexpectedly contrived Hikaru's downfall. And then, hilariously, "oh, that was a terrible idea"; a few moves later, Eric wins the entire game.
I feel like Hikaru doesn't take Eric serious though.. sometimes when Eric says something, Hikaru makes some weird faces which makes me feel like a little bit awkward, but it could be just me... ^^
@@j.p.8811 yes I understand. My point is the lack of humility and being a GM are intrinsically linked. Listen to old Fisher interview on Dick Cavett, he described the world championship as a battle of ego, the goal not being to win, but utterly crush the ego of the man across from you. Honestly it's a sign of respect if he thinks you are good enough that he needs to assert himself. I have seen other videos, particularly where he is not playing where he puts on airs of humility but that is not his nature. I've seen effort to avoid it, to appear humble but it is not his essence, his essence is that of most all GMs, particularly world champion contenders, barely contained egomaniac.
@@KittSpiken yeah but then again, while there are world champions like fisher, there are some who are pretty humble like Tal, spasky, and (maybe) Karpov. Having a ego is something that does not depend on your skill at something but rather your personality. Sure, being a super gm can increase your ego, but usually you would already have one from the start. And I don’t mean that as bad thing, hikaru might have a big ego but he treats others with respect, and at the end of the day that’s what really matters.
2:40 Eric: “I actually saw you in real life...” Antonio: “Wait, What? How?” Eric: “Well you toweling off after your shower and.... uh never mind. So you guys ready for some chess? Or what?”
18:16 Hikaru is a GM and I'm a nobody at chess. So correct me if I'm wrong. Here, isn't it a bad strategy to trade the Queen? Because even though it's just worth 1 point when captured, it has the activity exactly worth the other 9 point Queen. So it's only just grossly undervalued in terms of points when captured. So having more Queens will make you immensely stronger and at the same time, the opponent can't trade his original Queen with yours since he'll get only 1 point while you get 9.
Josin Thomas Hikaru probably thinking at as if he was playing 2 player as when you promote a queen you can sack it as you have a spare Even though there is another 2 players meaning that trading is worse than keeping it
Josin Thomas although hikaru idea was wrong Agadmator moved his pawn queen to block the check from Eric bishop as his pawn queen was also attacked by hikaru Agadmator later took Eric bishops as it was pinned to the King so it was basically dead
But wait a minute! If Green did capture the pawn with the Queen, who gets the check mate points? And isn't it kinda a stalemate for Red? Because Red didn't have any legal move left at that point.
@@tomjordan4123 Green would get the checkmate points and blue would get nothing, even though he helped. Red doesn't have any legal move but he's also in check (twice).

I think he just meant it was unfortunate for Eric cause Levy’s the one who ended up w the points for mating Hikaru. I know sometimes they can sound like know it alls but I don’t think this was one of those times lol

@@j.p.8811 a chess GM with an ego? The thought of it.
@@j.p.8811sure you can, but you're not a GM contending for best in the world.
I don't mean that as a slight, it's a feature.

Josin Thomas Hikaru probably thinking at as if he was playing 2 player as when you promote a queen you can sack it as you have a spare
Even though there is another 2 players meaning that trading is worse than keeping it
Josin Thomas
although hikaru idea was wrong
Agadmator moved his pawn queen to block the check from Eric bishop as his pawn queen was also attacked by hikaru
Agadmator later took Eric bishops as it was pinned to the King so it was basically dead
I agree keeping queen is better or at least trade with a rook
This game is for points and bishop's are worth too many points so it is worth it
Well, you can trade your queen for another if you're up in material
