Now that Ash and Pikachu are no longer the show's main protagonists, I feel the must to join in on a current heated debate within the anime community over the question that is.
Which is the best move Ash's Pikachu ever learned?

Thunderbolt hands down in terms of a signature iconic move
Honestly idk why the writers decided to always replace good moves. Cause unlike the games we seen Pokémon can use more then 4 moves at once without having to replace other ones. But what can ya do eh? I think volt tackle should of stayed since electro ball/web is ok sure but it just doesn’t have the same punch. I mean Pikachu doesn’t need the speed drops from electro web or the double damage from being faster with electro ball either. Cause he’s already proved his worth with volt tackle. And like always great video Aura! 😄
I very much agree with you. I do understand it was for new game promotion BW and SM but I also feel like any other random wild pokemon or rival etc could of had the move a do the job of game promotion. Its a shame Pikachu fell victim to this because Volt Tackle was excellent. Indeed and with rarely seeing the Pikachu line use this move apart from Pikachu it was an L not seeing it frequently after DP, this move should have been a staple but yeah..

1000% agree because you knew things were getting serious when Pikachu used Volt Tackle!
The recoil damage inflicted meant that you couldn't just spam the attack and had to be strategic on when to use it. Reminds me of the early episodes of DBZ when Goku would use the Kaio-Ken. It gave him amazing power, BUT the technique could wreck his body if not used at the right time.
Volt Tackle is the best move indeed and I miss it everyday. Electro Ball is good since it requires speed for big damage and yes I agree Electro Web is a downgrade. I think this is the fault of the writers like "What are they thinking?"
Indeed a question we all ask everyday, I do understand that it was for game promotion but I still disagree with the decision there really was nothing better than Volt Tackle In my opinion that move really left its mark on the community and truly showed that was the best move Pikachu had. I do miss it..

Iron Tail is one of my favriotes. I really am upset that they got rid of the metalic texture in BW but I can live with the white glow. I love that it is his defense and offense. Pikachu himself is very diverse and adpatable with any of his moves.
Ooo great points Coro I totally agree with you, Iron tail is move that come in clutch so many times and has been heavy deciding factor on if Pikachu would win or not.
Black and White giving that Metallic texture was something I really love about it too me it made me feel as if that was strongest version of that move 😂
Volt Tackle is a powerful and awesome looking move, no question, but honestly the recoil damage isn't always worth it
Electroweb may not be as powerful, but it's WAY more versatile and honestly the best replacement to volt tackle. Electro ball isn't that useful strategy wise besides that one time where it neutralised sleep power while ash took on Viola
you make some great points that I agree with for sure Electro Web allowed for many creative paths to victory that could use offensively as well as defensively but in regards to that like you said it doesn't hold the same power volt tackle had.
I feel like Thunderbolt, Iron Tail and Quick Attack were enough to create openings to put the opponent on the back foot before going in the final big finisher being Volt Tackle because in despite of its negative drawback I do believe it's the best option in truly getting the job down.

@@AuraZora I mean it DID take down two legendaries like u said so I get why replacing it is a pretty big deal, but from a strategic point of view, it can't really do much besides land a decisive blow
Thunderbolt could be used as a counter shield, iron tail was useful for close quarters and deflecting moves, quick attack has been shown to be used with outmaneuvering opponents or like in the bea fight where using it while in place could build up power, and electroweb I already covered

Yes volt tackle was pikachu’s coolest move I can agree with that but tbh it was kind of a double edged sword. Every time volt tackle didn’t work or finish its opponent it would always lose. At first I thought this was just a BW thing but this also happened in DP too. Multiple times! Paul’s electivre and magmorter, Flints infernape, Fantina’s driftblim, and even crasher wakes floatzel. If it’s blocked or ko’d pikachu was pretty much done for. Considering ash would be facing stronger opponents in the future. I think it was a good decision to get rid of the move that could cause it major damage and could almost guarantee it’s loss. I also agree that I electroweb was a downgrade at first, but with how versatile it is I was majorly mistaken. It’s used this move as Net, a spring, and a shield, to improve its own battle style making it far more useful then volt tackle ever was. Also since now ash has the strongest Z move what’s the point of having volt tackle when he can do more damage for less of a risk.

For me personally, I'm kinda okay with Pikachu not having a signature move, as now Ash and Pikachu could create more strategic plays. Sure, its not as iconic, and Volt Tackle is absolutely iconic, but I enjoy the moments where the pair create or plan around their four moves to create something unique only to them.
Like Pikachu's Electiric Shield, using Electroweb as a trampolene or net, or using Iron Tail on the ground to counter a move. Things like that made watching important Pikachu fights more exciting.
I think the finishing attack in the Ash vs Leon battle was either Pika Papow from Lets' Go, or B Thunderbolt from Masters
I do remember many of us suspecting at the time that one of those two options was the move, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's either of them!!
I do miss Voltackle. That’s facts. The only pro of Electroball was no recoil damage to lol ol Pikachu lol. Does electroweb even do damage? Paralysis? Idk lol

I agree. Never understood the volt tackle replacement.
Personally I think Quick Attack should've become Volt Tackle and then Thunder should've become Electro Ball, then Electroweb.
I mean, can you imagine if Pikachu had done the same maneuver to Silvally but instead of Electroweb into Iron Tail it was Electroweb into Volt Tackle?
Silvally would've been sent through the stadium!
They did Pikachu dirty by making him "forget" Volt Tackle. I guess it was the writers' version of Ash leaving his Pokemon at Oak's every time he goes to a new region like they still want a soft reboot for Pikachu which is still annoying for long-time viewers
Is there even like an official name for the form he used to take on Leon's Charizard because that was insane
I dont think so its just an extremely powerful thunderbolt it would of been great to get an official name or for it be a new move but its just the strongest version of Thunderbolt.

Electroweb is cool but Electro Ball was meh and Volt Tackle should've stayed, maybe replace Quick Attack with Volt Tackle but build on the idea of Pikachu using it as a way to support use of other moves like with that Iron Tail against Latios except instead of using it in combination with another move Pikachu just cancels the move to avoid recoil while getting momentum, or continues the move to keep attacking

Very true we can't forget its negative drawback!! but I definitely would trade that down for the love because it hits like truck and makes pikachu feel much more stronger with it in his move pool in my opinion 😄
It’s mostly there for a Physical Electric move
for me i was ok with it being replaced (not by electro ball im sorry) cus pikachu is this tiny powerhouse who relies on speed it having less health from that recoil would have done it no favours by the time ash made it to the Masters 8. Electro Web was the best in my opinion as i dont see ash as a final last ditch effort type of trainer, having a move like Volt Tackle which really and truly doesnt have much variety to it in the long run besides being a last ditch effot move.

Honestly thats my favorite move too. Not saying other moves are bad but- It was one of the most iconic moves for me- It had great amount of power. I thought they would keep this move for a LONG time but- I was proved wrong so- 🗿👍

It’s a zmove, there is a separate zmove for pikachu if they know volt tackle
Personally I wouldn't as Its a Z-Move which counts as gimmick but if were including all moves mechanics I would say its Pikachu's Strongest Move
Volt Tackle was just for shock value alone (pun intended). Never liked that in DP.
It makes no sense for Pikachu to have 3 Physical Attacks, this one being of recoil.
If they were accurate with the games, the maximum amount allowed would be 3.
Now if BW merged that and QA to become Extremespeed that would be something.
It would allow for the 4th move slot to always be rotating and therefore a surprise.
From Unova onwards TMs are reusable, Ash could've easily spam Surf, Brick Break, etc.
Haha I do agree with what your saying here Volt Tackle was definetly used for animation purpose on top of promoting Pikachu's signature move but thats what made it even better is because what allowed the animators to do animation wise and truly made Pikachu feel much more stronger without any addtional power than compared to XY or SM, where in SM the Z move is what truly maxed Pikachu's strength. I do really like what your saying having surprise 4th move slot that always rotated that would of been great imagine Pikachu using surf etc it would of allowed for so much variety and very cool battle strategies for Ash to come up with I would of loved to see that. W thoughts as always Kuro!
