If he's using newcomers against any of Paul's he'll have a bigger beating then Ash had in Lake Acuity.

Another factor that might help decide this clash would depend on their rosters. Sawyer has his own main 6 team we solidly know; and if I were to say for Paul's main team, it's be his Lake Acuity team:
Sceptile, Salamence, Slurpuff, Aegislash, Clawitzer, & Slaking
Torterra, Electivire, Magmortar, Honchkrow, Weavile, & Ursaring
I think that this battle will come down to the victor being Paul in the end he has proven to have tons of power without using battle gimmicks and that is proof that he could have easily made it into the Masters 8.

I get everyone loves to back Paul but Sawyer’s proficiency is crazy. I think one thing that gets overlooked a lot is Sawyer is a NEW trainer. Paul has challenged the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh leagues and he has all that experience under his belt whereas Sawyer came to Kalos with nothing but his Treeko, his notebook and a dream. The Kalos league is one of the toughest leagues in the world because of all the mega evolved Pokemon there so for Sawyer to be a Kalos League Semi Finalist within his first 6 months of being a trainer isn’t anything to scoff at either. Plus he’s being mentored by Steven Stone.
Keep an eye on that one.

I don’t see Paul having a answer for mega sceptile like it elective vs sceptile in a 6v6 sawyer would win but 3v3 Paul got it
look call me crazy and stupid for this all u want but league sawyer's base sceptile alone is enough for paul's team, not only was he mentored by steven but he can also go toe to toe and keep up with base greninja who was able to hurt alain's base zard a lot with just one cut that did more than pikachu's 2 thunderbolts and quick attack, and base greninja was also able to stand a bit against mcx, and we know how broken xy mcx is, able to beat 10 megas in a row with no rest including the strongest elite 4's mega ace that he one shotted while already being hurt and exhausted before battling, last a while against the primals and fight on par with 50% zygarde, and alain's retconned/nerfed zard was able to one shot leon's rillaboom and send leon's zard flying too, so using relativity sawyer's sceptile in just his base form is already insanely powerful that none of paul's pokemon have shown to be near the same level of this, also if it was mega sceptile then that would be so overkill, and there's a lot more i didn't mention either.
nah pauls newcomer pokemon are strong enough to compete with journeys ash pokemon and this is when ash was raned 8th in the world above people like raihan who are more impressive than malva and his torterra was strong enough to bring cynthias garchomp to a knee and trap it,his electivire was strong enough to compete with sinnoh pikachu who was strong enough to tie with tobias' latios he then went on to nearly beat infernape even after it used blaze scaling sceptile to mcx is pretty iffy because ur getting pretty removed from actual sceptiles feats by that point base greninja also dosent really scale to mcx based on his actual strength and speed showings in base i dont think hes really above pauls electivire torterra or any of his journeys mons i mega id admit hes stronger than them but paul will likely be able to throw muultiple pokemon at sceptile because the rest of sawyers team is getting outmatched by pauls also sidenote theres 0 reason to think journeys charizard is weaker than xyz the opposite is far more likely paul clears

“No Gimmicks” is kind of stupid when the M8 rules allows at least one gimmick. Paul not choosing to not use any gimmicks is on him, Sawyer is being actively nerfing by excluding Mega Evolution for him

Very good video analysis, I also think that another of Sawyer's weaknesses is that he jots down his opponents tactics and their Pokémon moves, now don't get me wrong, it's good to look up and take strategies from other trainers and perfecting them in your own advantage afterward, but, again like you said, you can't always rely on your let's say 'copying' of other trainers and their Pokémon moves and tactics, because that approach can't save you everytime, so Paul would literally mop the floor with Sawyer and his Pokémon, if Mega Evolution and other gimmicks aren't involved of course, because Paul also is smart and cunning when it comes to battles, apart from being a great a calculating Pokémon trainer, but if Mega Evolution is involved, Sawyer would win the match, but again, he would struggle a little bit with Mega Evolution being involved too, because like I said earlier, Paul is a cunning and calculating trainer as well
